BREAKING: The Weinstein Company is the latest to curtail the festivities on a holiday season film because of the Connecticut massacre. An LA premiere had been scheduled tomorrow night for the Quentin Tarantino-directed Django Unchained. The film will still be shown, but there will be no red carpet and invited press is being asked to attend a different screening. This one is now reserved for cast members and their families who haven’t seen the film yet. This is not about the slave-era violence in the film; it reflects the fact that nobody is in the mood to celebrate. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the tragedy in Newtown, CT, and in this time of national mourning we have decided to forgo our scheduled event,” said a TWC spokesperson. “However, we will be holding a private screening for the cast and crew and their friends and families.”
Earlier today, the Film Society of Lincoln Center postponed an event centered around the New York premiere of Jack Reacher, with Paramount’s support.

How long will that decision be decried as artist supression?
Jamie Foxx went on Saturday Night Live and said,”In my new movie I kill all the white people, how great is that?” The audience laughed. That is really sick. You can’t say sh)t or show a womans nipple on TV but you can watch people machine gunning each other. How crazy is that ? Hollywood gets a free pass while the loons blame the gun.
Exactly. Well-said. It’s wrong for artists to fan our worst impulses. Tarantino should be exiled for pouring out all of the horrible movies that he dumps on the world.
SO…Do you think it would change things if we took out ALL the violence in movies and games and replaced it with SEX? Instead of killing people our society would become one big orgy.
Thank about it….
So you’re saying we’d become Europe? Sounds good to me!
This isn’t just about violence but racism and over the top killing like that sick Tarantino likes to produce
You are so right………..thanks for the smart points!
To ALL….How about this?? Why don’t we stop watching mindless crap television and think for ourselves instead of following the lives of fantasy people…..that would be novel….You can live without the tube. There is something terribly wrong with the way kids are being raised, we just park them in front of the screen while we live our lives or do the same…lets wake up or is it too late?? Why are we scared to raise children the way we were raised??
Actually, I believe the line was “How black is that?”
ACTUALLY, he DOES say “How great is that?” Listen to it again. I know he says “How black is that?” throughout the monologue, but he actually says “great” during that line.
Actually at National Geographic they are showing women’s breasts on some shows, even during daylight hours…..So yeah it is bad that these “hollywood” types want to ban guns..all there bodyguards most likely have guns, they hire police at premiers, and preach that we should all Coexist and peace, love and happiness will reign. What about tolerance when it comes to those who abide by the laws that the politicians make, do everything legally, and then some whack job goes and does something stupid, everyone is blamed, death threats issued.
Everyone will call me a racist because I dont believe in the Hope and Change our President pushes cause in the end it is proven that it fails. We have gotten away from personal accountability, the family unit, and being a nation of laws instead of men (When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.)
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither safety nor liberty.
If you are going to do a premiere do a premiere, if it makes you feel better take up donations to help those families pay the bills for the funerals.
Agree but I wouldn’t show nudity either
Should we ban Imagination?
People have choice to watch whatever movie they want. I sometimes watch movies with violence, however, I don’t imagine myself killing people. I do understand that some of the violence are a reflection of true human history. Think about making more weapons that don’t kill people but has enough force to neutralize a bad situations. Hence the potential perpetrators of mass killings can be captured put to trial and treated for their mental issues.
It already has by the keen of senseless violence Tarantino himself.
Any fan of his films is supporting the culture of violence spread by Hollywood.
Hollywood does not spread violence people do.Most people who watch his films know that it is fake .Over millions of people see his movies and non of them go out on a massacre.
Guns do not spread violence people do. Most people who watch his films know that it is fake .Over millions of gun owners see his movies and non of them go out on a massacre.
Even so, I can’t think of ANY reason ANY American (except military personnel in a war zone) needs a fully automatic weapon, unless you’re trying to kill an entire herd of deer. Limiting the lethality (don’t know if this is a word, but you should understand the meaning) of the insane should be a priority. I doubt 26 people would’ve been killed if the attacker didn’t have an automatic weapon.
Justification with no thought
My favorite Tarantino movie scene is when Michael Madsen dances around the police officer and cuts off his ear in Reservoir Dogs.
hyperbole
It would be nice to delay the movie a out of repsect to the people of Newtown CT.Ma It would have been nice for Jamie Foxx to use a minuscule amount of tact when making statements he’s chosen to make. He doesn’t like white people. I’m fine with that, at least he’s honest (Chapelle & Rock keep quiet about it). Why would I want to see a movie who’s actor hates white people? I don’t, I’m sure Jamie’s fine with that too.
chapelle likes white people. he was the first post racial comedian
Lost in all the anti Jamie Foxx rhetoric is the fact that it was said in the monologue of Saturday Night Live, not a news program, which means it is all for comic effect. SNL has has always pushed the envelope in every aspect. For ANYONE to take ANYTHING in the ENTIRE program seriously is ridiculous. Also, we don’t even know if Foxx participated in the writing of the monologue, it may have been the SNL writers’ composition. For so many of you to be up in arms about it is insane. For those who think the movie shouldn’t have been made, don’t go to it. I had a bigger problem with Mitt Romney deliberately distorting the facts in the things he said (more so than the fact that he kept changing his statements to try to gain more votes), or maybe he was lied to by his staff (ala George W. Bush and the weapons of mass destruction) and he believed it (which is even more disconcerting given he could’ve been President). Growing up, there was Looney Tunes (yes, I’m an old fart). Characters there were constantly being shot, had anvils dropped on their heads, had TNT blow up in their hands. We all knew it was for entertainment, we didn’t go out shooting people, blowing them up, or dropping anvils on them. I knew the difference between real life and make believe. It seems wrong to try to blame tv, movies, and even video games for the violence that occurs in real life. Let’s put the blame where it belongs, in the perpetrators hands. But, even though “guns don’t kill people, people kill people”, there is no reason to make it easier for the deranged to kill massive numbers of people. I am a gun owner, but I can’t think of any reason a normal American needs a fully automatic rifle (unless of course you want to kill of an entire herd of deer). How does the NRA say what happened couldn’t be prevented, then turn around and say we should have an armed guard in every school (inferring that that would’ve prevented the tragedy)? Wouldn’t work. Even if there was a guard at every school, he/she couldn’t guard every entrance and wouldn’t the shooter just shoot the guard first? Yes, people kill people, but automatic weapons let people kill many more people. There is no way to stop the insane, but we can try to limit their potential lethality (don’t know if that’s a word but you should understand my meaning). Bring back the assault weapons ban. I have no problem with people having semi-automatic handguns, but fully automatic weapons only belong in the military. I’ve strayed far enough. Let’s let common sense rule.
first of all its a movie….2nd its on the other side of the country. belive me i feel really bad about all the stuff those ppl in conn. are going thru…but dont take it out on a movie and say people are still mourning so there will b no red carpet…please give me a break something like this even tho it is a major event this has nothing to do with movies and entertainment. hop off
This is just getting silly.
I guess from here on out we just have to arrange our personal life, pollitics and hobbies based on what the TV News Media say we should. You can’t just change the channel anymore, their all reading from the same script.
Well, you actually CAN change the channel. I’ve been watching The Sundance Channel quiet a bit these last few days. I guess HBO and Showtime will be entertaining me as well for the next few weeks.
They’re all reading from the same script, too.
“This is not about the slave era violence in the film, it reflects the fact that nobody is in the mood to celebrate.”
Presumably, the Hollywood lowlifes are guessing ‘we’ will want to celebrate Christmas w/a racist, vengeful, throughly disgusting violent movie after all the children are buried? Count me out.
“This is not about the slave era violence in the film, it reflects the fact that nobody is in the mood to celebrate.”
Yeah, I caught that too….Not seeing it either.
You said what I was going to say exactly.
True! Ever so true!
This movie seeks to profit from stirring up racial hatreds and is not even historically accurate. A movie about black people (victim class) shooting white people and opening on Christmas day is a disgusting and cynical joke on a country in dire need of healing both racially and otherwise. Celebrate this beautiful Christmas season with Love towards humanity and Goodwill to all. End Violence. End War.
Yeah, it makes one wonder why they saw this film as appropriate or worth viewing in the first place.
Not that I had planned to see it, or engage in anything Hollywood these days…..
Amen & Amen to that brother!!!
Amen!
Django is NOT a documentary! Lincoln has some “poetic license” as well. People, Why so serious?
Many Black people, including myself are disgusted and fed up with Tarantino’s sick appropriation and twisted view of Black culture. Maybe he’ll make movies full of racial epithets against his own culture for once. The age of torture pornography is over and should remain back in the 2000s with Saw, Hostel, and Death Proof.
Saw it. Loved it. Thank you, Tarantino for being brave enough to touch subject matter that most would rather leave buried and untalked about.
Thank you Steve McQueen for doing what others inside the Hollywood studio system would rather see buried and untalked about–the adaptation of an authentic narrative written by a former slave into a movie that reveals a truer picture of slavery instead of a cartoonish comedic exploitive redundant hipster cult of personality fanboy action adventure. 12 Years a Slave[2013].
Amen.
Hollywood is to blame for the culture of violence they portray on a regular basis. They are culpabale.
Well said Hollywood needs a make over
Sorry, but i disagree…Yes Hollywood does make this violent pictures, but who is watching them?…The people..so Hollywood does what the viewers pay to see…so this society’s biggest problem in eliminating violence, is self education..ours and that of our children. Not just Hollywood is to blame, more culpable are those who support these genres by funding them.
Alright, do you seriously think that this film is racist? On what rounds do you place that on?
Really, we are to blame by attending such films and thus funding such trash. They are just meeting the ever-deteriorating palette of the population.
Good post! I place the blame on Hollywood and the glorification of violence and the unbearable, relentless killing spree all for the almighty dollar. How much is enough! This culture has been ruined by thse creeps.
I could understand not watching a movie that was written and directed after these shootings that make any distasteful references to any senseless school killings, but I can’t stop watching movies just because they depict the violence that really took place. Moreover this is about slavery a topic which it should be every American’s responsibility to have a clear understanding of. It is the horrific crime that this nation was built upon. So it is a bummer that a story that needs to be told and in the past was suppressed by a racist Hollywood governing staff falls upon the heals of this gun totting most likely republican racist white kid bent on ruining the rep of our nation.
Will watch 12 Years a Slave instead with a better actor-Chiwetol Ejiofer. At least that movie is based upon a true story and not a torture porn comedy blaxploitation extravaganza.
Lets be honest you would have not came to see that movie anyway…so your opinion doesnt count..
Could they be feeling guilty for tearing apart our culture with their work and lifestyles? …. Nah … it’s Hollyweird.
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner .. except I’d quibble as to whether they feel guilty or not, but yes they are tearing apart our culture with their product. It’s not they don’t feel like celebrating rather they are worried about bad optics. Releasing this Blood Porn promoting gun violence on the holiest day of the year for Christians is cool, hip, edgy. Should we thank them there is still a line they will only reluctantly drag their a$$ across. P.S. Can someone tell me what the redeeming value of this movie is?
James, your culture is not hollywood fault,it is the fualt of athe people who think it is their God giving duty to carry a gun.Guns in film have been done for years.Look at the old western ,guns played alot of it.
Can someone tell me what the redeeming value of this movie is?
escapism ,that what it is about.
Can someone tell me what the redeeming value of this movie is?
Well, to Weinstein, Foxx and Tarantino, the redeeming value is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.
To the rest of us, there is none at all.
I am nearing the point where I will not even go to the movies anymore, and have certainly hit the point I won’t see any film featuring vapid gun violence played out by preachy actors who then decry it in the real world.
Who cares anyway. After what Foxx said I wouldn’t spend a penny to see this crappy film. Nor will I EVER watch anything he is in. You lost a viewer forever Foxx.
I totally agree. Foxx is a racist fool.
First Eastwood, now Foxx. I’m still looking forward to the film though.
Eastwood….Foxx?
Not the same. Funny, you.
Violent movies and video games contribute to the debasement of society. I will boycott any violent movie and especially with Foxx. Garbage in, garbage out.
Dave, Kosmo–
Lighten the hell up or shut up! Grow some thicker skin. Do you whine about Spongebob too? If people like you keep bitching whenever someone makes a harmless joke one day you may be the victims of real racism and nobody will give a rip because they’re always crying wolf.
Ole Harve and the cast is going to have trouble bitching about how we need more gun control laws after this is released Christmas day. Plus Foxx joked about killing lots of white people on SNL, and let’s not forget about that nasty “N” word which is uttered over 100 times.
Huck Finn was banned because it said “slave” instead of “servant.” I will never see this filth. I will never see anything with Foxx in it. Racism is racism, no matter the color of your skin and no matter at whom your hatred is directed.
I have this wish… Nay… a dream that people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the substance of their character.
I wish racists like Foxx would share this dream.
Yup.
Go ahead and cancel the thing indefinitely. The movie looks gayer than a picnic basket.
This will be a great movie for self hating whites who will most likely cheer at the end. What a wonderful movie to open on Christmas day just full of Christmas spirit. Dont waste your money this movie is pure trash.
The world doesn’t revolve around Christmas.
‘gayer than a picnic basket’
OMG…still laughing…hilarious!
remember jamie foxx as UGLY WANDA??? funny how those clips are
hard to find!!!
“Gayer than a picnic basket.” LOL!!!
Hypocrite leftist Hollyhog type cancels? If the ‘film’ was a good idea to make, ride the horse cowboy! So now it’s a POS because your desired outcome happened at an inconvenient time?
Oye.
Thank you!!!!
It’s amazing how all these white ppl now want to quote Dr. King and all of a sudden they’re so offended by the N word because now there’s a movie coming out on your favorite holiday that’s getting back at your racist asses. It’s ok for them to be racist towards us but when the tables are turned it’s “let’s not support the movie with the black man killing all the white folk” but I bet they’ll run to see white ppl killing black people all day long. Such fucking hypocrites!!! I’m going to see the movie on your man made fake ass holiday. I’ll be first in line!
I’ll be second in line to see it TWICE, I GOT SUPER EXCITED FROM THE PREVIEWS I’ve been waiting for a movie like this.
Is that you Mr. Weinstein? lol!
Interesting. So Hollywood which makes so many millions trivializing gun violence suddenly gets a conscience. If the industry had any honor, it would stop making disgustingly graphic films of the carnage. Wonder if our recent mass murderers were spurred to their actions by Hollywood? Don’t get me wrong, I am a gun respecting, owning American who would never dream of unsafe use of my firearms. I don’t even hunt, target only.
You own Americans? Sounds like this movie is right up your alley.
Idiot.
Read much?
Reading comprehension eludes you Dave.
If only we could cancel Hollyweird and the likes of Tarantino and Foxx.
They make it because people pay to see it – by the theater full. The problem is not Hollywood. The problem is humanity.
O v e r R e a c t i o n!
How exactly does one “over-react” to the slaughter of 26 people? We need to stop being so selfish and grieve alongside the parents and families of these victims. I agree that no one is in the mood to celebrate, and anyone who is is selfish and hard-hearted. Just like after 9/11 the parties were shut down for a short while, it’s appropriate here too.
Going to see Les Mis on Wednesday. Not cancelled.
Me, too!!
Les Mis is just about the mob rule that turned into a Reign of Terror. The French Revolution never made a poor person a franc richer. Romanticizing it is more liberal hogwash.
Les Miserables is not about the French Revolution (1789-1799), it is set against the backdrop of the 1832 “June Rebellion”. Please, Kala, be sure of history before posting this kind of thing. Merci.
There was no slave-era violence in the West. During that era, Kentucky was considered the West. This work is a piece of pure fiction. I expect my comment will be censored since it doesn’t match the agenda.
Well, Texas was part of the Confederacy – and the last I checked, Texas is the West.
Texas that is.
I’m sorry, I just had to correct you, even if this is a sarcastic comment- can’t tell. You know the California Gold Rush began in 1848, right? In California? West of Kentucky? Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Oregon, Louisiana were also granted statehood prior to the Civil War, among others. I don’t have a map, but I think all are west of Kentucky (I’ll leave the lesson on territories for another time).
Now, I’m not claiming Django is historically accurate- I read the script, it’s not. It is pure fiction, but, come on, if you insist on calling someone out on their historical accuracy make sure you know some accurate history.
Thank you!!! Some of us do appreciate facts and accuracy…
No, don’t care about whether it is on target, but it is historically inaccurate. Not the movie, your comment. There were slaves in Texas, along with the Nevada Territory and the New Mexico territory. So there was a west and there was slavery in it. Glad to see our educational system still stinks.
I’m thinking it should be censored for being so WRONG…
So they’re gonna show it to the general public, they’re just not going to make a big deal about it. Under the radar, so to speak. And the reason for that is they’re implicitly agreeing that to make a big deal about it would be offensive, what with the violent shooting and all. Implicit in the implicit agreement, I suppose, would be the understanding that there’s some connection between this sort of violent artistic crap and the desire to act out violent artistic crap in the real world. So why, again, do we tolerate this sort of artistic crap?
I applaud the Weinstein company for their thoughtfulness during this tough time. It continues to break my heart when I think of what those families are going through. My thoughts and prayers continue to surround the families and friends. I thank The Lord for my family everyday as well.
Yep, thank Weinstein for all the glorified violence in his films and Hollywood’s too. That didn’t have anything to do with the tragedy in Conn did it? No, it was just art.
I think crazy is crazy and movie/video game violence had little, if anything, to do with this particular tragedy. But if I had to pick a bogeyman, I’d pick the media for over-sensationalizing such events.
It is amazing that anyone would watch this film. Jamie Foxx has come out as a racist and bigot. Tarantino’s film gratify violence in the most dispicable ways. It’s time for people in the wake of the shooting in the Conneticut School to say “enough is enough” shame on anyone paying money to see this movie!
AMEN…… My sentiments as well. We all knew this movie which is extremely violent was coming. I hope it goes down the toilet quickly where it belongs.
Christ who are all you fruits blaming art for what a wackjob has tragically done. This movie will be fantastic and will be nominated for a bunch of awards. You don’t like it then dont go see it, but you cant blame art for violence. Do they even have pop culture type movies in the uber violent areas of the world, i.e Africa, middle east? For the most part Id say no.
@QTFan: Extreme violence in movies and video games has desensitized the youth to killing. They think it’s totally acceptable. Everything is NOT art. And blaspheming doesn’t help your opinion.
You should learn to take things in the entertainment industry less seriously. You’d be a much happier person.
Oh, come on. Are we really going to let one wack-a-loon dictate what the rest of us enjoy?
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who is not in the mood to celebrate. For a second this weekend, I thought the whole world had gone completely numb.
The gun Violence in this Tarantino movie as well many other by liberal Hollywood is more to blame for the desensitization toward murder and violence than the NRA ever will be. Oh the hypocrisy of the left. And they blame everyone else. This trash should never be shown in theaters
Absolutely!
False. Japan is a far more peaceful country with a lot less crime per capita than the United States, and their films and cartoons are far more violent at times than American entertainment is.
Oh no premiere, but not to worry. We’re gonna still feed the WHITE hating fans out their. This film is so unnecessary.
Tarrantino can’t do anything uplifting, socially, or even remotely morally gratifying. His films are always upsetting and degrading to humanity.
But he makes Hollyweird money. So on with filth and degradation.
People love going to see Tarantino’s flix…They’re the socially acceptable way to let the N-bombs fly.
Yes , the crap this guy makes is for one purpose only $$$$$$$$ and more $$$$$$$$
uhhh … your definition of uplifting must come from the alvin and the chipmunks playbook. True Romance (written by QT), Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill Vol 2, Jackie Brown and Inglorious Basterds all end with some kind of positive resolution or uplifting moment. but that’s OK, you used the word “Hollyweird” so you don’t need facts.
Will anyone notice?
Too bad the movie wasn’t shelved permanently. More Tarantino garbage, hope every soul who sees this film has nightmares.
Wake up, and look in the mirror, senseless violence. It’s all a bigh laughing matter, until it’s your neighbor. One day maybe Mr. Tarantino will get the ‘Karma’ he has coming to him…..
Damn, calm down dude. The people I’m worried about grabbing guns are fanatics like you, not those going to see a Tarantino film.
Fanatics like him? He is saying don’t see it because it is so violent…how does that make him a fanatic? Did you even read what he wrote?
Anyway, back to his original topic about posting which you did not address, I think Tarantino’s movies are terrible. Partial reason is for the senselessness, but also because they are shallow movies which no character depth.
was going to boycott the film anyway, PLUS anything that EVER has the
name Jamie FOXX…will never patronize.
It should be cancelled period. Too much violence.
Paraphrasing: “Not about violence in the film but not the time to celebrate” Ha, give me a break. I am sure that the Weinsteins and the Tarantinos of this world have heard the talk across the airwaves, namely that violence in movies, TV, video games and such should be looked at and possibly even be curtailed. So they’ll lay low for a while I guess. Maybe the ACLU may come out with tail between legs too.
In this movie Foxx claims he kills all the white people…similar to what Lanza did last week. I believe our culture is part of the problem…and the Weinsteins profit handsomely from the glorification and promotion of violence.
yes the white people he kill are SLAVE OWNERS , I take it you would rather him give them back massages.
Are you kidding? These are *fictional* slave owners, cupcake. The whole story is made up. And the violence is gratuitous and unnecessary. Anything else I can clear up for you?
My understanding is all white folk are murdered in this movie regardless of their pro- or anti-slavery views. And P.S., while both are totally evil, killing slave owners is worse evil than slavery. Murder is never justified.
Have any of us commenting seen the movie yet to judge?
Too many movies are violent, crude, and generally disgusting. Hollywood makes these movies for teens and young men. These bad examples encourage young males to act in many inappropriate ways. Hollywood needs to look in the mirror when horrible things take place, and ask themselves “Did my work contribute to this event?”
Exactly. When Pulp Fiction was shown, I was amazed at what was considered a good movie, and Hollywood loved it as movie of the year. It was one of the first to show the gore and blood as an artistic viewpoint of blowing someone’s head off. Tarantino has it down cold. I could imagine an eleven year old boy getting his jollies off by shooting up some helpless victim, and sure enough… It should be mentioned that it was a gun free zone, safe for shooters. As soon as an armed policeman arrived, he killed himself. Not a coincident.
