BREAKING: Zac Efron and Marcia Gay Harden have joined Paul Giamatti, Billy Bob Thornton and Jacki Weaver in Parkland, which Peter Landesman wrote and will direct based on Vincent Bugliosi’s book Reclaiming History: The Assassination Of President John F. Kennedy. The film is produced by Playtone partners Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman and also is being produced and financed by Exclusive Media and its co-chairmen Nigel Sinclair and Guy East.
Bugliosi’s mammoth book, which Playtone and Landesman originally set up at HBO, refuted the conspiracy theories surrounding the assassination that were embraced in the Oliver Stone-directed JFK. The film does not address the conspiracy aspect and focuses only on what happened at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963. The film, to be shot in Austin, is destined for a 2013 U.S. theatrical release around the 50th anniversary of the assassination.

“Zac Efron continues to impress us with his recent shift into more dramatic roles which showcase his exceptional acting skills and Marcia Gay Harden is an unparalleled actress who gives tour de force performances in every film she appears. We look forward to seeing their combined talent in Peter Landesman’s powerful and mesmerizing story alongside the excellent cast already attached to this film,” said East and Sinclair.
Efron is coming off the Lee Daniels-directed The Paperboy and next stars in Sony Pictures Classics’ At Any Price, which is being sold internationally by Exclusive Media. Harden next stars in the CBS Films pic Get A Job and is shooting Elsa And Fred.
Matt Jackson, Exclusive Media’s Head of U.S. Production, will oversee the production on behalf of the company. Exclusive Media is handling worldwide distribution rights to the film with international led by Alex Walton, President of International Sales and Distribution. Efron is repped by CAA and Alchemy Entertainment while Harden is repped by UTA, Framework Entertainment and Schreck Rose.

More like Recycling History. Oswald was a patsy and Stone’s JFK film came very close to showing what really happened. He missed a few things but overall he did a great job based on the research available to him 20 years ago. There is now much more evidence of conspiracy thanks to the internet and it’s easy to find.
Why are people so afraid to admit there was a CIA conspiracy to get rid of JFK? He was bad for business he made too many powerful enemies and they got rid of him the same way we assassinated many foreign leaders in the 1950′s all over the world from Iran to the Congo to Central America to Southeast Asia.
Hanks is so gung-ho American he’s afraid to acknowledge anything that makes us look bad. This film will just reinforce the Warren Commission which has been exposed as a fraudulent document and a cover-up countless times over the years. It’s sad that on the 50th anniversary we are going to get another white-wash of the truth.
Always thought it was a mob hit. They were pals with Joe Kennedy (does J&B Scotch ring a bell with bootleggers}They helped JFK get elected and then Bobby betrays them by going after them.Kinda personal, the type of emotions that would drive an emotional response crazy enough to take out a sitting president. That expression ” it’s not personal. it’s business …Anything more personal than stabbing in the back someone who did you the ultimate favor?
I’m very surprised Tom Hanks would do this movie. It is so clear that Oswald was not the lone gunman. Here are 3 very simple questions…
1. Why would Oswald pass up a clear shot at JFK when the limo is coming right toward him on Houston St. and instead shoot at his target as it was going way from him, through trees, on Elm st.?
2. How does Lee Harvey Oswald (a known Communist and with an arrest record) possibly get a job in the school book depository six weeks before the assassination?
3. Why does Jack Ruby (a known mob bagman) feel “compelled” to kill Oswald for his “beloved” President.
It all makes no sense. But neither will this movie.
Who is continually trying to put Zac Efron in big boy films? Hasn’t it been proven it doesn’t work? Nobody takes eyes like that seriously, he’s too pretty to be taken seriously. Make it stop.
…The film does not address the conspiracy aspect and focuses only on what happened at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on the day Kennedy was assassinated…
Will this be something like Bobby? That boring movie that was like about assassination of Robert Kennedy but it really wasn’t? It was about hotel and people in it. With many famous faces. I tried to watch but it was too boring.
Zac Efron does not impress anyone with his talent. He does small movies because no one asks him to star in big ones. He was that big teen star, then grew up, lost his teen fans and now stars as supporting actor in small movies. That “Lucky One” was somewhat successful because it was based on those stupid Nicholas Sparks novel. And they are always successful.
Disgusting that Tom Hanks would touch this stupid idea. I’ve lost all respect for his view of history. Why any actor would want to be part of this stench is beyond me.
Tom Hanks is committing an act of treason against the United States.
