Personally, I wish there was more unusual comedy on fox. Remember the Tracy Ullman show… I used to watch when I was a little girl…those were the days….
One one hour script written by a woman. CBS has one, NBC has one, ABC has two.
Half hour women did better. Very sad.
Maybe it’s sad that women can’t make good enough drama pilots to get the green light. Don’t blame it on their gender, blame it on the work they put out.
Kudos on the comment. Could not agree more. Stop looking at “Oh, only one or two shows by women”. I watch 2 Broke Girls. But I don’t watch Whitney. Why? One is funny(Broke) & one is not(Whitney). If something is good, it’ll be on. It might not last, but it’ll be on.
So far drama pilots on FOX sounds most promising. But execution is the key, as always.
The boss: The Abrams/Wyman Project
The deputy: Gang Related
Honorable Mentions: Goor/Schur Project
Some of these sound pretty good, but after yesterday’s renewals there isn’t much space left. Assuming they also renew Glee, which sadly I think they will, the drama slots will consist of monday in the fall only, and the death slot. Not much chance of a full season for anything in those places! As for comedy slots, there is one. They’ll most likely buy two shows on the risk the first one is a bomb, but no more.
Right now I watch nothing on Fox, except an occasional episode of The Following (It is both too violent and not interesting enough for a real keeper).
However, I would be absolutely thrilled if they picked up Sleepy Hollow or Gang Related. Both are unique concepts that have not been done before. Sleepy Hollow has every reason to succeed, since fairy tale themes have been doing so well lately (Can you think of any failures at all in this genre?). And Gang Related is a total switch on the typical undercover fare — a gang member undercover in the police department? Now that’s just cool!
Gang Related = The Departed?
I think they could do better than that, with a new adaptation of “The Unceasing Path” (also known as “infernal affairs”), three movies later adapted by Scorcese in “The Departed”.
The original movies were far and away better than “The Departed”, but relatively unknown in the US where movies with subtitles usually are not received well and studios tend to remake those stories stripping them of a lot of good stuff in favor of more shoot and persecution scenes with a lot of camera movement.
Then… it could also be an adaptation of that 1980s great show “Wiseguy”, but with a bad guy infiltrating “good guys” organizations :p.
I remember when Fox used to develop cool stuff…
This year is worse than last.
Love The Following..it is the best program on TV and has a bit of everything. I look forward to it every week..Thanks Fox
Boring stuff. FOX used to be cool. Keen Eddie, Action, Drive, Firefly, Profit, The Inside, Wonderfalls, Point Pleasant, VR5. When they hit (X-Files, House) they hit big. Now, bupkis.
Thanks for reminding me of Wonderfalls! That was great. I wish that had lasted longer. Keen Eddie was good too. I try not to get hooked on shows on Fox, because I usually get burned. But I made an exception(and was rewarded) with The Following. Hopefully they’ll keep it going in the second season.
Would love to see Greg kinnear again. I think he is so funny and such a good actor. Also love David Harbour –was great in all law and orders, thin ice(with Greg kinnear), end of watch. Sounds like a good premise. Need more of those on Fox
Looking forward to Sleepy Hollow, The List, Delirium, Untitled J.J. Abrams/J.H. Wyman project and anything starring Catherine O’Hara, who doesn’t work enough.
I am actually glad Ruth and James are working with this Gavin and Stacey American remake! BECAUSE having the actual writers might actually help the series! I WILL be watching “Us and Them” from a very huge English Gavin and Stacey fan!
Bring back “Do No Harm” please. I’m hooked and only 2 episodes. Really? This family also enjoys “The Following”. Now I know that one will be back!
Whatever happened to that “Dirty Blondes” pilot featuring Angela Kinsey and Rachael Harris?
From what I remember, there was an actual bidding war between the networks for it, but I can’t seem to find any news on it. It’s presumably dead, but was it even filmed?
I mean, at least NBC announced that The Farm wasn’t going forward, and it was nixed way before the presumed backdoor pilot was aired.
