The logline for A&E Network‘s new drama series Bates Motel, a contemporary prequel to Hitchcock’s classic Psycho, stressed that at the heart of the show is the dark, twisted backstory of Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) and how deeply intricate his relationship with his mother, Norma (Vera Farmiga), truly is. The first key art for the series (click on image for larger view), underlines that with a shot of Norman and Norma, sitting on the edge of the bed in a Bates Motel room, and the tagline, “A boy’s best friend is his mother.” Simultaneously, A&E also has released a new teaser for show featuring similar imagery. Here is an exclusive first peek. Bates Motel, from executive producers Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Kerry Ehrin (Friday Night Lights), premieres March 18.

Would it be safe to assume that soon the government will be looking at legislation to have a national registry of all mothers while restricting their behavior in order to better protect society from this looming evil mother influence which may lead to children/adults doing bad things like killing??
“A boy’s best friend is his mother”…
Good thing for fathers that “A man’s best friend is his dog”.
Oh good it’s the Nancy and Adam Lanza story on TV. That is what every person who sees this is going to think of unless they are a total dimwit who is oblivious to real world news. The similarity is so striking they are crazy to compound the problem with this teaser. This show should be put on the shelf for at least 18 months if not longer.
Stupidest comment I’ve read all day.
We’ve waited long enough for the though, fuck that. It looks excellently made, I’m excited for the release of this.
It’s set in modern day. Why the heck is it set in modern day, A&E? Young Norma would have been a great character to explore if it was set in the 1950s.
Put it on Cinemax… for all the RIGHT reasons!
Watch any new network show…no need for cable any more. The Americans on FX had an oral sex opening and anal rape. Even Jon Stewart’s language has gotten broader.
I was slipped the pilot recently – BLEW ME AWAY!
