EXCLUSIVE: FX has found an edgy way into one subject it had mostly steered clear of on the comedy side — marriage. The cable network has greenlighted a half-hour comedy pilot by filmmaker Andrew Gurland (The Last Exorcism, The Virginity Hit). It centers on a married man who is given permission by his wife to get a mistress in order to save their marriage. Gurland wrote the script and will direct. He is executive producing with Paul Young and Peter Principato. Salamo Levin will serve as a producer. The pilot will be produced by FX Prods., which makes all FX comedy series.
FX has several comedy pilots — live-action and animated — in various stages of production as the cable network is looking to launch three new half-hour series in the next fiscal year. FX’s current comedy series roster includes Louie, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Wilfred, The League, Archer, and the latest addition, Legit, which got off to a slow start last week. Last year Gurland, repped by WME and Principato-Young, did a pilot for Showtime, a first-person documentary comedy he wrote, directed and starred in.

OMG, this concept will hit home with the American audience. NOT!! This is terrible. “Let’s save our marriage by allowing you to go sleep with someone else” What a great idea for a sure.
Yeah, because FX is SO trying to RELATE to the viewers. Because there are a million spies who watch Archer every night and say “hey, I’m just like that guy”!
FX is a cable channel. They don’t have to worry about ratings. In fact, it seems like Terriers was kind of a martyr. Now, if they have a well-received show, they can’t cancel it. People are just going to complain and say “They pulled another Terriers! Stupid FX!”
Negative points for: sentiment, delivery (OMG + NOT!! in the same comment –> [internet explodes, seam rips open in the universe, we all travel back to 2004, then 1989]), and overall stink of an easily outraged soccer mom at the controls of a “Dude, you’re getting a Dell” era PC.
This will be a great pilot. On that you can rely.
i think this is a long-overdue plot premise. a lot of marriages could benefit from this sort of experimentation. it promises lots of comedic potential.
Salamo and Andrew are a very talented and refreshing comedy team. Perfect score for FX. Really looking forward to this!
Sounds like a David Gardner comment.
The premise has nowhere to go, as many other FX ventures make the mistake of doing something that sounds provocative, but can’t sustain itself. Anyway, didn’t “Hall Pass” already underperform?
This is more “bro”-centric garbage – what everyone comes to expect from the classless Principato. Right in the gutter.
