The announcement was made this morning during the Discovery Communications’ portion of the winter TCA Press Tour where Animal Planet held a panel for its new Whale Wars-type docu series, Battleground: Rhino Wars. In addition to solid ratings, Whale Wars, which has chronicled the efforts of marine conservation group Sea Shepherd against Japanese whalers, led to Japan suspending its controversial whaling operations. The series spawned a five-part spinoff, Whale Wars: Viking Shores, which aired earlier this year.

I wish there didn’t need to be a season six of “Whale Wars,” and whaling had ended. Sadly our species has not matured from our level of decadence and barbarity to the dignity and decency of respecting all creatures. I want to thank all of the people who are involved with Sea Shepherds and those who support them for standing up to evil when the rest of the world either cowers or does not care about whales- reminds me of the Holocaust and the lack of care for the Jews, gypsies etc.

Did you just compare whaling to the Holocaust!!! The Japanese are not the only country that still whales. Who are you to take away history and culture. As long as they stay in there quota the whale population will survive. What if other countries declared war on us for slaughtering cows, chickens and pigs. Have you ever seen a slaughter house in action? Sea Shepperd’s also go after tuna fisherman in other countries ( Fishing for tuna is legal) But they wont dare bring their campaign to US waters, wounder why??…….Buy the way, the reason why the US can place a sanction on the Sea Shepperd’s. Maritime law states that the vessel operating in open water is governed buy laws of that country which the vessel is registered. If these laws where not in place open waters would be complete anarchy. That being said I do support the survival of all species. I also support history and culture from other countries. I do not support Paul Watson or his campaign, He has maid a very comfortable life out of lying and using public media to manipulate the truth. Why, More tax free donations. Its lunch time I am going to go enjoy a steak. To the Japanese whaling fleet may you have a safe trip and good luck with your research. I feel like I just swam through a sea of idiots to find one guy who bases his comments in the real world. Japan has hunted–and eaten–whales since the 6th century, according to artwork from that period. They have as much right to their traditions as we do ours. The only reason I’m addicted to Whale Wars is to watch Watson’s fleet sink itself every year. I hope to see his fat ass bobbing around, hoping the whalers don’t mistake him for a juicy snack. On the other hand, I can’t wait for Rhino Wars. Those guys are doing something righteous.

Great, TV rarely portrays the vapid radical left as honestly as it does here. No doubt this is an important show for nudging brain-washed minds into a bit of critical thinking.
After watching 3 episodes of this show I finally stopped. I think it is disgraceful how the captain of this ship puts these kids in danger. While they may be young and naive he is old enough to know better. He’s going to get one of these kids killed.
These kids know what their getting into they know they could die how about you research your information before you start talking.
Thank God for people like you Paul. I appreciate everything you are trying to do everytime you go out there to protect the whales. I pray that these japanese will stop this slaughter and start thinking to conserve what we have very little of.

In the last 6 years of filming, please tell me one episode in which Sea Shepard has save a whale from the Japanese whalers. It’s like watching the TV series Gold Rush but at sea.
They have saved several hundred whales. Just think of the massive slaughter that would take place by the Japanese whalers if Sea Sheppards was not there.
I love to watch this show, my wife and I laugh so hard at Sea shepard when they fail over and over again. There like yes the rope stopped them whoo hooo, o there moving. Lol I love it

During one season they were successful in stopping the whaling half way through the whaling season. That was their biggest save. I think it was around 800 whales they saved.
Every harpoon ship that follows one of the SSCS ships (in an attempt to prevent SSCS from locating the factory ship) is one less harpoon ship killing whales. So even when they have limited success in getting to the factory ship they still tie up the whalers resources and draw a lot of attention to what’s going on down there. This year SSCS will have 4 Ships, 100 crew, a helicopter, drones, etc… So they’ll be even better resourced than ever.
I wish (apart from whaling to stop) that Discovery would sync up its transmission dates for the United Kingdom. Here in the UK we are yet to see last year’s season, which is ridiculous and makes no commercial sense to Discovery (effectively squandering their investment in Whale Wars). It leaves viewers over here unable to relate what they are watching to what’ has recently transpired in the Antarctic.

The Sea Shepherds do not save any whales. The Minke whales are not endangered and their population is full for the habitat, so any whales not killed by the Japanese are just going to starve to death.
The Sea Shepherds are terrorists and their terror tactics make it impossible to reach many agreements that would otherwise protect marine ecosystems. If terrorists are allowed to decide for themselves what treaties mean, then nobody wants a treaty. But the Sea Shepherds use it and their TV show to raise enough money to feed their fat captain — most of the crew is not paid and does not get health insurance.
Also, drug use is wild on the Sea Shepherd boats as these unskilled unemployed young people bounce around on rough seas for months on end. Many of the crew quit because of the boring rough seas and rapant drug use around them.
This is the dumbest.post.ever. I disagree with much of what this crew does, but to say Paul Watson is in it for the money is incredibly naive. Do some research on this guy’s past. Look at what he’s fought for. He’s been doing this since the 70′s.What is he doing with this money? He did it being flat broke for 30 years. The guy lives on a boat! Even after six seasons! You’re either very dumb, or you have an agenda.
Rampant drug use? Where is it that you get your information? Several months volunteering at sea in not the most comfortable quarters would probably be the reason that most of the crew quit. Yes most are young and unskilled and that makes for a greater challenge for the organization. A minimal stipend to allow people to continue year after year would probably be well worth it in the long run for the Sea Shepherds.
I have a very intelligent and knowledgeable friend that is quite serious about his eco-activisim, a life long commitment, and he joined up with these folks about two years ago. I know that he would not waste his time on something that did not result in a greater benefit in the end.
As you and I sit at our computers making criticisms about the job that others are doing as we see them from the comfort of our cushy couch, I would remind you that these people are called activists because they are out there ACTIVELY trying to make the world a better place for future generations.

The Sea Shepard has saved hundreds of whales. By them following the harpoon ships it stops the Japanese from killing whales!! Last season they forced the Japanese to leave early so they did not get the quota they wanted. So right there they saved hundreds of whales!!! It takes 20 minutes or more for a harpooned whale to die then they finish by shooting them!! No other animal in the world is as cruel as humans when it comes to killing another animal!! How sad!! Thanks to all the people who give there time to save these magnificent creatures. Best of luck to the Sea Shepard this season!!
Comparing whales to chickens and cows shows such a lack of intelligence.I am by no means a conservationist,but each whale has a function in the pod and by killing them it disrupts the other whales.The Japanese continue to flaunt an international ban on whaling under such an obvious lie of doing research.There is no reason for this kind of behavior and I am glad that the Sea Sheperds are out there defending the intelligent whales from a clearly unintelligent whaling country!!!!!!

I can understand honoring culture but when it comes to killing certain species of whales that are endangered something needs to be done. Yes, Americans slaughter cows and chickens but we can do this sustainably. The endangered species act states that you cannot harm or kill an animal that is on this list.
