After an all-male lineup last year, BAFTA’s shortlist for the 2013 EE Rising Star Award includes four gals and a guy. The nominees are “actors and actresses who are destined to be bright stars in the future of cinema.” Like last year’s crop, which included Chris O’Dowd and Chris Hemsworth, this year’s group is already pretty well-known. It includes: Elizabeth Olsen, who’ll next be seen in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake; Andrea Riseborough who stars opposite Tom Cruise in Oblivion; Life Of Pi star Suraj Sharma; Juno Temple, who’s got three films in Sundance including Lovelace and Alicia Vikander of A Royal Affair and Anna Karenina. Jury members who selected the nominees were BAFTA film committee deputy chairman Pippa Harris, director Kevin Macdonald, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and film critic Mark Kermode. Previous winners have included James McAvoy, Eva Green, Shia LaBeouf, Noel Clarke, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hardy and last year’s Adam Deacon. This year’s winner will be announced at the BAFTA ceremony on February 10.

No Tom Holland? Sigh. I hope he gets nominated for Best Actor or Best Supporting Actor, but it’s very unlikely, rising star award was his best shot.
Kristen Stewart does not belong here. Only reason why she got award is Twilight fame and that fact that she is in press all the time. Not because of her talent. Because she is literally the worst actress in the world. Paris Hilton and Britney Spears probably can show more different emotions on screen then Kristen.
Shia LaBeauf’s career in big movies is pretty much over. Lawless was his chance to prove that he can carry small movie. But it failed. Now Shia will star in those indie movie that will go straight to DVD or will have limited release. That is no Star.
I don’t know what happened to Eva Green and her career. She is talented, pretty, charismatic. Was so good in Kingdom of Heaven. Casino Royale gave her much needed push to become famous. And then… nothing. She needs to find good agent.
Noel Clarke is not star. He can’t lead movie. He can only play small supporting character. If he is lucky then he can sneak in some big movie. But that is not what Star means.
I don’t understand how Adam Deacon could win over Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston last year.
Good grief, butt hurt much?
you’re an idiot, Kristen did great, critically acclaimed work in all her other movies. It’s not her fault Twilight had a horrible screen writing, the last Twilight movie is actually pretty good by Twilight standards and her acting in it is full of emotions and fun to watch. Watch her work in Speak and Cake Eaters, Welcome to the Rileys and On the Road…she’s great. This “horrible, no emotion actress” is getting old and only shows how limited and shallow are the idiots who say it
Oh believe me I was a fan too. As everybody I had little crush on Orlando Bloom after Legolas. I thought he was good and promising young actor too. I watched that awful Ned Kelly movie only because of Orlando. I watched The Calcium Kid. I watched Haven. I watched stupid and boring Elizabethtown for Orlando. And only after Kingdom of Heaven I begin to lost my little crush on him. He was so bad in it. Like movie was good but Orlando’s weak acting destroyed it. And after Pirats ended – so did Orlando’s career. I can’t believe I liked this guy and was rooting for him. So embarrassed now.
Believe me – one day your crush on Twilight and Kristen will end and you will see with clear eyes how awful actress she is. She CAN NOT show different emotions. That’s why the lip biting comes. She tries to look “I’m worry, I’m angry, I’m confused, I’m thinking” and automatically bites her lip or opens mouth. Because her face can’t show those emotions. She was awful in her every movie.
Lizzie Olsen was fantastic in Martha Marcy May Marlene.
This is a complete joke of an award. It’s voted for by the public. Adam Deacon practically bought his last year.
Tom holland!
