In the wake of its four Oscar nominations last week, Fox Searchlight said today that Beasts Of The Southern Wild will be re-released in theaters beginning Friday. The film’s return engagement will hit a limited number of cities — New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix, Atlanta, Philadelphia, Boston, San Francisco, Washington D.C, Dallas, and Seattle — as part of the specialty label’s now-humming awards campaign, which picked up steam last week with Oscar noms for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actress for star Quvenzhane Wallis and Best Director for Benh Zeitlin. The film was originally released theatrically June 27 after it won the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2012 in its world premiere there; that’s where Searchlight picked it up. Now audiences will get a refresher.

Fantastic to see a film like this getting the attention it deserves.
Too bad all the department people who worked on this for free (almost all of them) haven’t gotten a call from the producer to share the wealth. (Not a dime)
Overrated. The old cliche that poor people have more soul than anybody else. Look how exotic they are! They like being poor!
Your comment really exemplifies what chosen ignorance is all about: look in the mirror, you idiot.
Great movie. I had no idea what it was about or if it was going to be good when I rented it; just heard it was nominated for several awards,
because we do have more soul vsshole. rich people are bored out of there minds.
go watch Lincoln vsshole.
A nice enough movie but not better than Flight, which didnt get nominated. It’s the token low budget movie in thbunch.
VERY overrated dreck about child abuse. OK for a graduate film project, but overrated beyond that.
A celebration of congenital ignorance, inbreeding, extreme poverty, backwardness, alcoholism and child abuse, no wonder the Sundancers can’t get enough of it.
A wonderful film full of genuine enthusiasm for life. It’s deserving of the awards attention it’s getting. The naysayers commenting probably preferred RED DAWN.
This was truly a wonderful film. Masterfully crafted, made with love and attention. However, I am baffled by all the Academy love this film has received this year. In a year with so many fantastic films and strong cinematic efforts, they chose this as the artistic darling of the year? In a year where PT Anderson, Tarantino, Affleck, and others can understandably and justifiably be left out of the Best Picture race….well, I just hope more thought and care goes into the voting process this year!!!
I hope the rest of the Academy Voters are actually watching their films. We are very fortunate individuals and there are little excuses as to why one should not weigh in intellectually on the 2013 Academy Awards when one can.
I was pleased to see the Costume guild gave the Beasts’ costume crew a nomination.
