The network’s Battlestar Galactica prequel has been hurtling through space in various incarnations since Syfy decided last March not to go forward with the pilot for a potential series. Instead, Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome debuted as a weekly web series on the Machinima Prime YouTube channel, garnering around 8 million views. The network is now following through on its promise to give it an airdate, setting February 10 from 9-11 PM for its world TV premiere as a two-hour full-length movie. The Universal Cable Productions pic will include scenes not included in the online release, and it will be available on DVD, Blu-ray and VOD on February 19. Blood & Chrome is set during the first Cylon war and centers on young William Adama (Luke Pasqualino). David Eick is executive producer along with Michael Taylor, who wrote the teleplay from a story by Taylor, Eick, Bradley Thompson and David Weddle. All are veterans of Syfy’s original Battlestar series. Jonas Pate (Caprica) directed.

This was a really well done web series/pilot. The knuckledraggers at Syfy are again earning their paychecks by passing on quality content. Maybe if Eick and Taylor had included a sequence shot in nightvision or some pro wrestlers…
a great movie. i watch the 1979 series the 1980 suck.the last battlestar series wasn’t that good.hey they even turn starbuck to a girl.this one have the potential to be great as long they do not get any director or writers from the last series.
That must be some good $hit your smoking in your country Larry.
BSG was one of the best shows that SyFy has ever had.
Jeff,..I totally agree. BSG won a Peabody award and accolades all the way around. For anyone to say BSG wasn’t that good…they must prefer romantic comedies.
Larry
Are you joking
The original series was good, the 1980 series was terrible
The reboot Galactica was amazing, who cares if they changed starbuck to a female. Everything they did worked and the series was great.
The critics even said it was one of the best scifi shows ever.
It changed the way Scifi shows will be moving forward
I guess some people are just slow
Larry, don’t watch SiFi. Obviously you have no taste for quality. BSG remake was incredible.
I’ll back you up Larry. I couldn’t stomach watching the BSG remake and I only like the original for nostalgic reasons. Yeah I didn’t like that Starbuck was changes to a female, as he was my favorite character from the original, but it was mostly cause that I thought the actors were not that good. I didn’t find a lot of them believable for the roles they were assigned to, they just didn’t have the gravitas to pull it off. Maybe I am spoiled by all the great acting that has accompanied shows on HBO and other cable channels. Don’t even get me started on “frack,” I cringed every time I heard that. The cyclons and their raiders just looked like something out of a after school cartoon. Seriously Ron, have you seen the crap that mostly fills up the time slots on SciFi? That is no indication of taste. Why do we need another humans build robots, robots rebel, war starts plot all over again?? Why didn’t they stick with the alien bug race from the original?
However, I really enjoyed watching Blood and Chrome and I would have certainly been excited for that to have been turned into a series. I enjoyed the characters, the writing, and the overall look and feel of it. I find it really unfortunate they won’t move forward with this as I would have liked to have seen more.
I respectfully disagree. I thought the new version of Battlestar Galactica was genius because it had so many levels to the plot and the characters. While I admit that some of the casting for that series could have been better, I really thought that the writers tapped into so many layers of human emotion in that series. I thought the balance of conscience with fear, politics with religion, and science with madness all taking place while trying to fight a war and live as a society was brilliant. If we look beneath the surface, we see exactly what would happen to our society if the wars we’ve been fighting in the past decade became “worst case scenario”. I applaud the writers of the recent series for giving us more than the campy, shallow, original version provided while providing us with so many twists along the way that even up until the last few episodes I still wasn’t sure who the last of the final five was. I would like to see the same kind of depth and substance from Blood And Chrome. I picture it mirroring military strategies and scenarios that we consider in Today’s world, if we had to fight a full-scale war with China, without any aid from other countries. The drama could unfold easily as we fight an enemy who, despite all of our strategies and victories, relentlessly attacks and seems to have unlimited manpower and resources.
Im inclined w Cline; and believe the challenge now is to build on the prior series and this awesome movie, matching the writers decisive and brilliant insight into the possibilities of our not to distant future. I found the characters and plot to be dead on real. The movie was worth the wait. How does the public get more?? As far as the mucky-mucks passing on a series, Im obviously clueless here.

Well done has nothing to do with it. They couldn’t garner the interest of the advertisers. Therefore, they would no way of paying for the series.
Welcome to television shows and how they make it or don’t make onto your device.
Another person who does not understand how things work in tv. They could mot sell it to advertisers. They were not interested in B&C. If you cant pay for a series with asvert money, you can’t make the show. I saw it. Nice try, but no where in the league of BSG. I see why it didnt garner interest.
That’s a lotta bs. They can’t sell what will be a very highly rated show to advertisers? Now who doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
You don’t know that it will be highly rated!
BSG did not have fabulous ratings nor did Caprica and those had big names. I am a huge fan of BSG and Moore and Company.
And, no they could not sell it to advertisers. Eick said it in an interview.
Research before posting.
I’d love for you to get taken along on the next pitch to advertisers so that I could hear you saying things like, “C’mon man. You know it will be awesome…because…it’s…AWESOME.”
The first episode aired in the U.S. became one of the highest-rated programs ever on Sci-Fi, with 3.1 million viewers.[16] Subsequent episodes proved equally successfu
i saw it three time. a good movie
Dude
BSG had great ratings on Syfy
Who are you kidding
Caprica did not
I’m soooooooo excited for this! I missed the webnisodes. Going to sit down with a bottle of wine and a box of chocolates and watch the hell out of this show. Love me some Galactica! Goooooooooooo Adama!
I hop it pulls amazing numbers so they can reconsider picking it up to series
Such a stupid decision to pass on it. It was a really good pilot. Why on earth they didn’t order it?
No, that is not how television works. Nobody on cable is checking with advertisers before going forward with a show. Basically no scripted cable series pays for itself in advertising anyway.
Yes. That IS how television works. Spend some time doing research. I really don’t want you to embarrass yourself anymore.
I’d love to see the research you’re doing because I’m at a cable television network. Before a series ever airs, no, it has nothing to do with advertisers. Obviously whether to produce ADDITIONAL seasons of a show is mostly based on ratings, but not its FIRST.
You are at a network? What are your duties? Mailroom? Coffee guy?
You just made my point. ADDITIONAL would be episodes beyond the B&C pilot as in a pick up to series. That is what they were trying to secure the money for by shooting the pilot and showing it to advertisers and then saying, “Well? Whuddya think? Do you like it? Can we have your money to do this every week?”
We’re talking about having the money to produce a full blown series of Blood And Chrome. They could not sell it. The advertisers watched it and passed on giving them the money to produce a weekly series.
That’s two ways I just put it down for you to understand. Hopefully, one of them makes it through to you over at Oxygen or A&E.
“The advertisers watched it and passed on giving them the money to produce a weekly series.”
Again, this is simply inaccurate. That’s not the way it works. Advertisers do not decide what series are launched on cable television. Cable networks make most of their money on subscriber fees, not advertising. You’re just completely off base.
Vincent Hanna got pwned lol.
hey knucklehead
Its all based on ratings
How many people watch the show
Its not by advertising
You are 100% WRONG
Basic cable does still rely on advertisers, it is only premium cable networks (ie, HBO / Showtime) that don’t. But even still, if nobody tunes in its hardly a good investment. I loved BSG but it was never a top-rated series, and Caprica didn’t set the ratings on fire either. It sucks but the numbers weren’t there. I’m just glad that what they did manage to make of Blood & Chrome is seeing the light of day!
Look, all of you fanboys and fangirls -
I’m a 30-year-plus VETERAN of the Science-Fiction Convention and fandom world (yeah, I’m a Trekkie; deal with it), so I know of which I speak here.
NO TV SERIES can exist without sponsors – not on network TV, not even on Premium Cable. SOMEBODY has to pay the bills, for studio time, for camera, lighting, and other production crew, for pre- and post-production crew (ESPECIALLY on a sci-fi show like B&C!), not to mention actor salaries. Quality Scripts, Beautiful Sets, Fantastic Acting – all those are MARVELOUS. An established fanbase is WONDERFUL.
NONE OF IT MATTERS IF YOU CAN’T PAY THE BILLS.
I hate it. YOU hate it. The Production Company hates it. This does not change the facts of life.
To quote Maxwell Smart, “Sorry about that, Chief.”
Lol, your a 30 year old VETERAN are you? Trust me kiddo, 30 does NOT make your a veteran. When was your first convention? 1995? Lol.
I think he meant he has been a Sci-Fi fan for 30+ years…not that he’s 30 years old.
Hahaa… He said said 30-year-plus, not 30 year old!!!
LOL
I think part of the problem as well is not just the ratings. Us sci fi geeks are not promising advert targets.
Love Battlestar Galactia!! I watched the 1st series, and have the dvds of the remake series. I’m working my way through them AGAIN. Blood and Chrome looks GREAT! Get rid of wrestling on Syfyand get back to programing like this.(although I do understand the “bills” factor as mentioned above) Will be watching.
Not sure if Feb 10th at that time is a great idea…they will be going up head to head with AMC and The Walking Dead that night.
Thank the gods I have DVR!:P
BSG and Caprica was being watched by loyal fans. We were just watching it unauthorized online. A great many of us know the part we played in the downfall of these two great sci-fi series. I can’t speak for anyone else but I couldn’t stomach what SciFi was becoming. And, I will always be sorry my viewership wasn’t counted because I tuned in every week right up to the bitter end. My attitude toward this network changed when the Greatest thing it could Imagine was a need for more of the WWE’s SmackDown. I did watch the webisodes for B&C and thought they were very well done. Something has gone seriously wrong when a network that is supposed to be the home of sci-fi programming is able to turn that pilot down while continuing to approve weekly broadcasts of choreographed wrestling. Oh, and I’m also still very upset about SGU but I won’t even go there here. Thank you ever so much SyFy for turning Dr. Rush into Rumpelstiltskin.
Spoken like a true tool! Way to justify the dumming down of america! NOW when BSG aired a a miniseries on Syfy back in 03 it took them the better part of a year to grow the stones to green light the series and film season 1. At which point it aired on SkyOne in the UK months before it hit the US(thank you pirate bay:-)). Anyways, stay calm & I feel confident something positive will happen with it!
I agree. I don’t know if a BSG universe reboot is what Syfy needs, but it needs something. Lost Girl? Seriously? An old Canadian show that’s basically a subpar version of Buffy?
Why the hell did STARZ have to air Torchwood Miracle Day?
Syfy is traveling some really off-putting terrain. Have some balls. So what if your network isn’t the highest rated if you air quality shows? HBO didn’t start getting real programming ratings until The Sopranos, and now they’re one of the most respected (and highest rated) cable networks available.
Start and stay with quality. Otherwise you’re just another Bravo or MTV
this Battle Star Galactica it is fate it must be a series. It’s only the most fantastic science-fiction ever created. It easily beat out Star Wars, Blade Runner, Star Trek and the rest.
Battle Star Galactica theme is the best ever produced. And blood and chrome was a masterpiece of good work good actors good direction. Excellent special effects taking your imagination to new heights. If anyone hears me speak of any importance know that you have in your possession the most fantastic series ever made. I see a potential here that could go even further than Galactica 2004.
Put this on television and promised to go minimum 10 years
Caprica couldn’t maintain enough viewership to remain profitable. That alone put B&C behind the 8 ball from the beginning. It needed to knock the socks off the executives to get a chance. It had to be fresh and new, but wasn’t.
It’s hard to get any show made. Look at Star Trek Next Generation. Even with the huge Star Trek following, Paramount had to give the first season away to the stations just to get it on the air. They receive only 2 minutes of advertising time per episode and had to sell that time to advertisers themselves. If they didn’t sell it, they lost money on that episode.
The stations wouldn’t show it if they had to assume any risk.
Star Trek Deep Space 9 had to be given away as well.
SyFy shows WWE because WWE makes money.
Yes so if syfy want to make money showing wwe fake wrestling then they need to change their name from syfy because wrestling IS NOT SCIENCE FICTION! Havnt watched syfy since v caprica sgu were cancelled it became possibly the worst channel on any cable network! So i would like to congratulate syfy for becoming the worst channel ever! Just my view and its personne! Some will disagree with me but going down to brass taacks syfy sucks!
Can not wait until tonight, been tweeting and fb’ing all my friends.
Just watched its dam good pilot I like it every much anymore coming
MORE… Do not let go. TV escapism at its best. I miss the adventure, and getting caught up in a good story. THANX
SYFI channel are run by fools, and are losing out on an opportunity only surpassed by Star Trek and Star Wars. How can such smart people be so stupid?
Caprica sucked, not enough action or special effects, it just sucked. Blood and chrome looked pretty good, I hope it gets really high ratings and those idiots that passed on it get fired for making such a stupid decision. Matter of fact, I hope the network fails for passing on such a good series.
This show has some of the worst writren dialogue between actors that I have ever witnessed totally pathetic. I think i have hward fraxk frixk fracken and fricken atleast 50 times now and i am ojly half way through the episode. The action is good though. Fix rhw written and you might have something good
I find it ironic that the worst speller on the board can criticize the show’s writing. lol
“I saw it. Nice try, but no where in the league of BSG. I see why it didnt garner interest.”
Wait, what? What did you watch? Tonight, I saw one of the best things I have seen on television in ages.
I don’t understand who programs SyFy. People who know nothing about the genre.
I’ll come back for Star Trek: TNG but the rest is trash. I don’t watch wrestling. I don’t watch reality TV.
I wish people in your industry weren’t so stupid.
Did it air today I came in middle and last week Continuuum was on.
Hey, I’m a Nielsen House this week, and marked BSG: B&C in my book…hope it helps!
All the sniping aside as to who knows what about cable tv production it was a great show. Better than any previous BSG. If it was promoted I missed it. Saw it on the guide and said wow what’s this. Was expecting to see cheesy fx like the recent Starwars movies but no, it was great.
The exec’s at Syfy are looking at the DVD sales on Blood & Chrome
If the sales are high they will consider it being a series
Why do you think there are no more Stargate movies
The Dvd sales died in the US so we will not be getting any new Stargate movies or BSG series
Its about making $ people and today its not easy to make $$$ with a tv show and the dvd market has died
Why do you think HBO and the BBC cancelled ROME which I loved
It cost 100 million a season so they cancelled it in the middle of the second season (the Exec’s at HBO said it was the biggest mistake they ever made after they did it)
I will never watch or pay for HBO again and I watch less Syfy because a lot of it is junk (wwe, ghost hunters, and other reality TV crap)
Blood & Chrome would be fun to watch IF they make it
