Best Actor Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper is in talks with J.J. Abrams about playing Lance Armstrong in the producer-director’s planned movie project about the disgraced cyclist, according to Entertainment Tonight. Shortly after Deadline broke the news about Abrams and partner Bryan Burk’s Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures securing screen rights to the proposed book Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong, Cooper publicly expressed interest in the role to the BBC and later in an email to Abrams. Cooper “sent me an email and we’ve been talking”, Abrams told ET last night at the Producers Guild Awards. The project is based on the proposed book by New York Times writer Juliet Macur for HarperCollins.

It’s a J.J.Abrams project, it’s never been said that he is directing. He is far to in demand to devote a serious amount of time to a film of this calibre when he has Star Wars on his plate, he will be in a producer/advisory or just lending his name to a project headed up by Bad Robot with very little input from him (I’m sure he has something to say about the heading of all of his company’s projects).
I’m not a huge fan of Bradley Cooper, but it’ll be nice to see this Alias reunion.

I’ll join others in saying NO ONE wants to see a Lance Armstrong movie. No one.
His name is MUD right now, and it doesn’t matter if he starts 100 more cancer charities, he’s tainted goods and no ‘redemption’ arc is going to fix that in the eyes of the paying public.
But of course, when has Abrams ever turned down a project to produce/E.P.? How many shows per year does his company get to go to pilot with at the major networks?
Last thing: we don’t need a movie for EVERY big true story in the news, Hollywood. Let something lie for a few years, huh?
This will definitely be a great movie, are you guys crazy? However, I think Sam Worthington or Jeremy Renner would be better for the role. Just a casting suggestion. Bradley Cooper is ok, but he’s a bit too preppy.
It’s amazing that they would go with Bradley Cooper when Joseph Gordon Levitt and Sam Worthington are perfect for the role. Joseph Gordon Levitt, with the right touches, could probably be made to look like Lance Armstrong’s twin. This is already being prepped to become a huge fail just like the Tyler Perry as Alex Cross fiasco that everyone and their mother called before it was even filmed.
