EXCLUSIVE: Warner Bros has just closed a high-six-figure deal to acquire the upcoming Howard Blum book Dark Invasion and will develop it as a star vehicle for Silver Linings Playbook‘s Oscar-nominated Bradley Cooper. Cooper and his 22nd & Indiana banner will produce with John Lesher and his Le Grisbi banner and Adam Kassan. The nonfiction book will be published by Crown/Random on 9/11/13. The date is significant, as the book is about what is considered the first attacks on U.S. soil since its formative years.
The book is a true spy thriller set in 1915 when Germany, with war raging in Europe and the U.S. still neutral, decides to send their Secret Service to America to wage a covert war to keep this country from helping the Allies. The Kaiser’s spies bomb factories, sabotage ships, shoot JP Morgan Jr (a financier of the Allies), bomb the U.S. Capitol Building, and set up an anthrax lab six miles from the White House. Cooper is attached to play NYPD Capt Tom Tunney, who’s tasked with establishing the team that will bring these German spies to justice. CIA considers Tunney to be its first head of homeland security, according to the book.
Deal was brokered by CAA and Janklow & Nesbit. CAA also reps Cooper. Blum’s last book, The Floor Of Heaven, is at Fox 2000 and Chernin Entertainment, and has a script by Scott Silver.

Is there any actor in Hollywood more overexposed right now than Bradley Cooper? I’m tired of seeing this guy in every other movie. Must we see him in 5 movies a year for the next half-decade until he burns out? Relax, bro, you don’t have to stuff your entire career into this short a time frame.
Meh, he seems on par with Gosling, Chastain and Stone in terms of exposure. This isn’t Jude Law in 2004 or Chastain in 2011 territory here, either: he appeared in three films that were released last year, one in which he plays a supporting role. I don’t mean to be snarky, I just don’t see how he’s anymore overexposed than some other actors.
I actually like when my favourite actor like Bradley Cooper and Joseph Gordon- Levitt, are in 5-6 movies a year, i love seeing them in stuff, it great!
hey, want overexposed, look at Ryan Seacrest who was hosting everything this year
i dont mind it though… good for them.
Yes he does. I’m not an actor, but from what I read they need to work when the going is good, no matter exposure, because it could all be over and they could be doing Direct to DVD B-movies in 5 years.
I’m sure he’ll take a break, but there is no real reason to at this point. He’s single with no attachments. Why restrict your working schedule?
Words, The Place Beyond The Pines and Silver Linings were all made in 2011. It’s the studios that choose when the movies come out and not Bradley Cooper. If it bothers you that much about seeing him everywhere stop watching his movies.
What is this movie called? Gangster Squad 2? Really WB? Didn’t you just lose a bunch of money on a team of dudes trying to bring down some other dudes. Maybe Silver’s script is better than Beall’s though, Lord knows it can’t be much worse. And change the title, I thought it was an alien movie.
The plot is quite different than Gangster Squad. It sounds interesting too.
Cooper is no more overexposed than Ryan Gosling.
