EXCLUSIVE: CAA has signed Chiwetel Ejiofor, shortly after the British actor starred as the principal character in the Steve McQueen-directed Twelve Years A Slave, opposite Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt.
Ejiofor, for my money one of the best actors around, has credits that include Dirty Pretty Things, Love Actually, Children Of Men, American Gangster, Salt and Inside Man. His next acting turn comes in the BBC production of the Stephen Poliakoff-directed Dancing On The Edge. He also wrote and directed the short film Slapper and is adapting the William Kamkwamba book The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind.
With the move, he ends a long run at ICM Partners. Ejiofor continues to be repped in the U.K. by Alex Irwin of Markham, Froggatt and Irwin and Jenne Casarotto of Casarotto, Ramsay & Associates, and attorney Robert Wallerstein.

This guy is super talented. Props to CAA for signing him.
ICM PARTNERS is a bleeding carcass. It’s the only agency in town where you DON’T want to be a partner!!!
Surprised ICM held on to him for this long. No actor, especially one of his caliber, wants to be associated with that mess.
Broder should have never merged with ICM. The combined companies have killed each other. And all the clients are gone baby gone.
Silberman should have never been made the head of that company.
SOO, ICM PARTERS COULD NOT HANG ON to Al Pacino, Jon Hamm, Mike Epps, Jay Pharaoh, RZA, David Oyelowo, Scott McNarry over the last month???? What’s going on with the NEW ICM PARTNERS??? That place is like cancer.
Yes, a great, under-appreciated talent! Though he has (undoubtedly) worked on projects dear to him, now it’s time for Mr. Ejiofor get the exposure he’s long deserved–kudos CAA!
Can’t believe you guys wasted comments on slamming ICM instead of praising Chewy for success hard earned… So ridiculously insular. Chiwetel Ejiofor is one of THE best actors of our generation and there is an Academy Award on the horizon for him rest assured. Congrats, man. You deserve nothing but the best!
I usually click on the agency stories just to witness all the bitchy backbiting in the comments section. Yes, there’s too much snark and schadenfreude in Deadline’s comments (and the net overall), but I don’t mind watching the agency kids get huffy with each other.
Also, it’s kind of awesome that Chiwetel’s friends and familiars call him “Chewy”.
Don’t forget KINKY BOOTS!
was going to say the same.
Rewatched the end of Serenity on cable tonight after watching Love Actually over XMas and was saying to the wife how I cant believe this guy didnt get a break bigger.
And SERENITY! He can do villains with aplomb.
I was going to say that also. He was great in that wonderful film
Huge fan of his. This man can ACT!
Talking shit is so 2012 people. Chiwetel is incredibly talented. The rest of you should get a life.
ICM seems to be doing just fine. They have smart partners who hire great agents – and great agents who continue to bring in clients.
I am the last guy in the world who would be caught in his bunny slippers watching “Kinky Boots” with a tub of ice cream. But there I was one evening, battling the flu, and in it I discovered that Chiwetel is one hell of an actor. That role – and his turn in it, including the singing – was stellar. Too bad he doesn’t get major A-list vehicles channeled his way because home boy has mad acting chops.
Ejiofor is the man. Not sure why I put off seeing it for so long, but that Mamet film he starred in a few years back, was so awesome. It blew me away!! With CAA, he can only get stronger starring roles that he’s deserved for years. Congrats!!
Chewey is a great actor. I have hired him. He just doesn’t have the star quality of an Anthony Mackie
Producer: Anthony Mackie’s ‘star quality’ is no brighter then Chiwetel’s. Anthony’s a fantastic actor but he’s pretty much in the supporting role arena himself with a few more movies, but thats it as far as comparisons go. If i had to compare the two, I’d give Chiwetel the edge. He is just a brilliant actor. I flew from NYC to London years ago just to see him in Othello and left the theatre totally in awe of this mans ability to build and portray a character. I like Anthony but I dont believe his range stretches as far as Chiwetel’s.
Please! you only think he is talented because he has an accent.
yawn! can we talk about something else! ICM is so not part of the 2013 conversation!
boring…
on to the next…
kinky boots??? how bad was Joel Edgerton as the lead in that bomb! why does anyone think he is a star? if it wasn’t for Chiwetel it would have been a disaster!!!
love chewy!!
His best movies, Kinky Boots (brilliant) and Pretty Little Things….since then he’s been a supporting player. Although he was really menacing in Four Brothers.
You mean “Dirty Pretty Things”. And I agree that is his best film. Unfortunately Hollywood has no use for leading black actors outside Denzel and Will. Jamie Foxx is lucky a maverick like Tarantino took interest in him otherwise his career would be in nowhere’s land considering how little attention Hollywood has paid to him since “Ray”. Hopefully another maverick will pay attention to Ejiofor sometime soon.
The interesting thing is Chiwetel’s provided support to Denzel in two high-profile vehicles–Inside Man and American Gangster. I agree he does portray a good silky smooth villain when he wants to.
Remember when ICM had both Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz when both were at the top of their game? Yeah, great times… now it’s a sinking ship.
Incredible actor this man is! Can’t wait to watch the accolades pour in for him over the next year!!
Fantastic for Chiwetel and CAA – he’s going to find a lot of big projects calling his name once Steve McQueen’s TWELVE YEARS A SLAVE makes it to theaters next year
