Jack Heller and Dallas Sonnier’s Caliber Media production-management firm has set Evan Mirzai to run their new digital studio, which will finance at least five digital projects this year. Former Gersh lit coordinator and 2012 Black List scribe Mirzai will also serve as manager as he expands content and distribution of features, series, shorts, and music “utilizing Caliber’s in-house camera packages, editing equipment, and relationship with VFX company The Molecule,” kicking off Caliber’s new digital division with Joe Begos’ (Almost Human) horror series Toxin.
As manager, Mirzai joins a team that includes Adam Marshall, Jared Schwartz, Laura Gibson, Jennifer Au, Lee Stobby and Julian Rosenberg with clients including Shawn Christensen (Oscar nominated Curfew), Leslye Headland (Bachelorette), Ryan Condal (Hercules), Michael Starrbury (The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete), Jessica Goldberg (Goodbye For Now), T.S. Nowlin (Agent 13), Alex Timbers (Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson), Henry Hobson (Maggie), S. Craig Zahler (The Big Stone Grid), and Olatunde Osunsanmi (Evidence). Joining Caliber’s client ranks are digital remixer Melodysheep (Symphony Of Science), comedy duo Fatawesome, and production company More Media.
Caliber Media is currently prepping for a spring start on Bone Tomahawk, a horror-Western starring Justified‘s Timothy Olyphant, Kurt Russell, Peter Sarsgaard and Richard Jenkins. The company is in post on Dark Was The Night starring Kevin Durand, and the Duplass Brothers-produced Milo.
Last month Mirzai and his twin brother Shea Mirzai earned a spot on the 2012 Black List with their script Doppelgangers, about a twentysomething slacker who falls for his identical twin’s girlfriend. The duo are repped by Caliber’s Adam Marshall and Stone, Meyer, Genow, Smelkinson & Binder.

Wait. Hes a manager. An exec. And a blacklister . What the hell did his parents feed him?
The fact that you read this and think “multitalented” lets us all know you’re from Cincinnati or wherever.
Wow. This sounds legit. I met Evan when he was at Gersh. Not surprised at all. Where can I read Doppelgangers?
Evan’s a great guy and deserves all of this. Really interested to see what comes out of this department.
Say…”Evan worked his ass off for Gersh. Love to see Caliber getting the benefit. Good luck to him and his bro”
Seem to have a different recollection of his time at Gersh…Which agent did he work for again?
He was an agent. Don’t be so critical.
He wasn’t an agent at Gersh. Even calling him the lit coordinator is being generous.
This guy was definitely not an Agent and was always on his way out. Who vouched for him?
Very, very generous. He was an intern that wouldn’t leave so they hired him with the sole purpose of doing script coverage.
So they hired one of their clients? Huh? These guys are rich kid posers, really just clowns. I worked with them on something they were “producing” and it was amateur hour big time. Don’t they make those shitty movies with Randy Savage? Anyways, sounds awesome, where do I sign up?
So excited to see where his career goes!
I fucking love this kid. Great hire for Caliber.
Apatow should get his hands on Dopplegangers.
Don’t speak nonsense. Your script was not good.
Good for them. Always liked Dallas. Excited to hear more about the digital division and their business model.
Caliber Media is on a roll. Dallas is a smart business man as is his team, Julian, Adam and all.
Julian Rosenberg was last on the list of reps (above) for a reason. I don’t trust any manager who has head shots online. You want to be an actor? Go take some acting lessons.
Julian Rosenberg had a client’s movie in Sundance, sold a client’s feature pitch to New Line, sold client pilot pitches to FOX, FX and MTV, sold a book proposal to HarperCollins and the subsequent film rights to Scott Rudin and Sony, sold another book proposal to Rodale, has a client rewriting TUPAC, had a director client’s movie released by Warner Bros, had another director client’s documentary sell at TIFF, and has a writer staffed on major network show. Not a bad few months for a 2nd year manager. Show some damn respect.
Talk about a smackdown. That’s an impressive list of deals.
So I need to send material to Evan AND ask to read DOPPELGANGERS
How did this guy pull this off? They are twins?
Very wise move by jack and Dallas. Evan is a great guy and deserves of all of this. Seems to be the type that turns shit into gold…
More like the type that turns shit into more shit.
Agreed. Half-assing it made him a joke at Gersh and won’t do Caliber any favors.
Not surprised at all. The Mirzai’s are a class above the rest. And when do we get to see Doppelgangers in theatre already?
Evan is a hell of a writer- congrats bud!
Congrats, Evan! Looking forward to seeing what comes out of the new digital dept.
Sounds like he has a lot in store at Caliber. He is really young to right?
Fantastic move for a major up and coming industry force. Well done, guys.
deserves it, great work Caliber and Evan!
The only smart move by Caliber would be if they’re paying him $0.
Evan is the kind of guy that would have his twin show up for work at Caliber as him and think that’s original and funny. Their social antics make Andy Kaufman look congenial and mainstream, which I’m sure is exactly what they’re going for.
I worked with Dallas at trying to get UTA interested in repping a young director whose film went on to win the Grand Prize at Sundance.
He has a great eye for talent.
Evan is a great hire and a down to earth guy along with being a great writer, I am sure he will continue his success at Caliber and bring some great things to the table for the company. Keep up the great work Evan and Congrats!
Who knew Gersh was full of trolls? No wonder they’re getting their ass kicked by APA. Their assistants spend more time on deadline than their clients. You go Mirzai!
