CBS has given a pilot pickup to Hostages, a drama from writer-director Jeffrey Nachmanoff, Jerry Bruckheimer Television and Warner Bros. TV, which has set Toni Collette as the lead.
Based on an Israeli format, the project, which had a pilot production commitment, centers on a family caught in the middle of a grand political conspiracy that will change their lives forever. Emmy winner Collette will play Ellen, a successful surgeon living in Washington, D.C. who is selected to operate on the President of the United States. She is thrust into the middle of a political conspiracy when her family is taken hostage, and it is up to her to save the lives of her husband and children.
Hostages was originally developed for Israel’s Channel 10 by Alon Aranya, Omri Givon and Rotem Shamir. The show has not been produced in Israel, but an U.S. adaptation written by Aranya found its way to Bruckheimer TV, which bought the rights and then brought in Nachmanoff (Traitor). Nachmanoff wrote the script and will direct the pilot. He will also executive produce it with Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, Givon, Rotem Shamir and Chayim Sharir. Aranya and KristieAnne Reed serve as co-executive producers. Collette won an Emmy for her starring role on the dark Showtime comedy United States Of Tara.
Hostages is among the slew of projects with big commitments this season that started casting before a formal pilot order. Another hourlong CBS project whose pickup is pending, Beverly Hills Cop, also cast its lead role with Brandan T. Jackson ahead of a pilot greenlight. This marks CBS’ first official drama pilot order. On the comedy side, the network has ordered two single-camera comedies, the Jim Gaffigan/Peter Tolan project starring Gaffigan and the Rob Greenberg project starring Tony Shalhoub, Kal Penn and Jerry O’Connell, as well as Chuck Lorre’s multi-camera Mom starring Anna Faris.

This show looks AWESOME! Very excited to see it!
Sounds interesting. Also sounds like a limited series. Didn’t Ashley Judd do something similar?
Will it really change their lives forever? That’s a long time. And they are fictional characters. Their lives won’t be changed forever just for a limited number of episodes. Look at me my life is ruined forever because of my bad luck of being born into a family of idiots.
Toni collete is a talented actress but CBS is only capable of doing bland or consertive dramas. Jerry Bruckhiemer is behind whole lot of big dumb blockbuster movies and none of the TV shows he’s produces are neither high concept or smart. If his name was just there for him to receive a paycheck. Then I could be a little optimistic.
It’s been awhile since the last time actress Toni Collette was on a show. Since United States of Tara which she appeared on Showtime for a few seasons. Now is back with something completely different though she’s done comedy, this will be by reading the article a serious drama series, for CBS network.
There are a lot of political dramas on television right with the climate being what it is. I do remember that Jerry Bruckheimer who was behind the CSI franchise on CBS. Does have some success with action type shows. I suppose that this is what will be the back drop of the story on this new show Hostages for CBS. Surly there will be a lot of action just as much there will be a lot of drama behind the show. It sounds interesting and the concept does have an edgy plot with what it’s going to be about. The other shows that are lined up for the CBS should be a network to watch. I’m still sort of interested in the development of the revamp movie “Beverly Hills Cop” which starred comedian Eddie Murphy. With now a turning into a television series. I like what CBS has done so far the last two season with the shows that have recent becoming success. Hopefully this will be another added ratings hike for the network,in which everyone will be watching.
Toni Collette is one of the best working actresses nowadays and I do not like the idea of her being stuck on yet another bland CBS procedural. She deserves much better. For her sake I hope it will be better than all the dramas on CBS. Btw cast Scott Speedman as her hubby and call it a day.
Muriel’s Wedding FOREVER!
This sounds like it will be very good. I am surprised though that CBS wants it. It doesn’t appear to be like any of their other dramas. But I am happy that they are looking to do something else other than police procedurals.
