CBS has set the bulk of its summer schedule, locking in premiere dates for the second season of Unforgettable, the new Steven Spielberg-Stephen King drama Under The Dome, the remake of hit UK reality format The Great British Bake Off and an expanded version of veteran Big Brother. “This is our most aggressive summer so far with original programming,” CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler said today.
The 13-episode Under the Dome, set in a small town suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome, will open Monday, June 24 and will air in the Monday 10 PM slot. Repeats of Hawaii Five-0 will move to Friday 9 PM for the summer. Unforgettable, starring Poppy Montgomery and Dylan Walsh, returns for its second season on Sunday, July 28 at 9 PM., replacing (usually very low rated) summer rebroadcasts of The Good Wife, which is getting off the schedule.
Bake Off will premiere on Wednesday, May 29 at 8 PM. The series features skilled amateur Americans competing in baking challenges. Big Brother will have a longer edition this summer, premiering two weeks earlier than previous years on Wednesday, June 26 at 9 PM. Once again, it will air three times a week, Tuesdays (9 PM, beginning July 2), the live eviction show hosted by Julie Chen will be broadcast on Wednesdays (9PM, beginning July 3) and Sundays (8PM, beginning June 30). The Wednesday live eviction show will move to 8PM on July 17 after the reality baking series completes its season order. NCIS: Los Angeles will move to Tuesday (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning July 2. Here is CBS’ summer schedule:

Why would they program Under The Dome to air following four comedies?
They always air dramas at 10 on monday nights. Altho its not an ideal place to put this show especially for the summer, but Thats a prime spot.
Does not bode well for The Good Wife’s return next season since ratings have never been strong, and most of the critical success and awards buzz has since passed
I hate The Mentalist being on late Sunday. It’s time is always pushed back because of sports overrun. It’s one of my favorites and trying to dvr the show is a nightmare. The dvr will only record the shows supposed time, which is never right. This show did not deserve that timeslot.
I agree. The Metalist is actually the only show I always watch on network TV. It is worth a better timeslot – by hiding it on Sunday it does get pushed back by sports events constantly.
This disciurages people from viewing.
So there’ll be no summer reruns for “Vegas,” eh?
Under the dome… Simpsons did it.
Can’t wait to see Under the Dome. Finally, some decent scifi on Network TV.
But the ending in the book is 100% unfilmable.
Will be interesting to see how they fix it.
I agree. Apparently they’re changing a lot of it, so the mythology King created will probably be altered considerably.
Interesting that CBS sees more rerun value in NCIS: Los Angeles than Person of Interest.
What CBS must do now to make POI even bigger hit and at least drama beast is heavy and properly advertising during super bowl and grammys. And before that of course. In that period we will have 4 POI episodes in a row – 31, 7(after super bowl week), 14(after Grammys week), 21(Jonathan Nolan debut as director and Sarah Shahi series debut). If they can build solid and even stronger fanbase will be great. POI was insane stable 2.9 all fall episodes. If they can make 3.5 new 2.9 will be perfect. Sarah Shahi role sound like future POI spin-off so CBS have a lot in stake here.(more money and one more drama hit) POI is hit and fresh much better chance for successful spin-off than one more ncis.
“Relevance” deserve TBBT lead-in. Its major episode with Nolan and Shahi debuts. Not many Nolan level (oscar winners) on tv these days.
Petar, you and I agree that POI is the best show CBS has. I see nothing but success ahead for the series, but my point is about the rerun value of an arc show such as POI versus the stand alone episodic TV series such as NCIS: LA. I think this is a sign CBS believes the audience of NCIS: LA will watch endless reruns of the series, and that it is easier to program NCIS: LA reruns than the POI episodes than need to be seen in order.
@michael
Nope. They free POI slot from BB. POI is second CBS drama this season only after NCIS and reruns on tie with NCIS. But POI is growing until ncis is dropin. Until end of the season POI will be #1 CBS drama at least for the spring. And will be #1 broadcast drama next season.
Jonathan Nolan will make his debut as director on Person of Interest episode “Relevance” – February 21, 2013. This will be Sarah Shahi series debut too(her role sound like future POI spin-off). Best scripted and acted drama add and great names as directors. Hope JJ Abrams will direct at least one episode like Nolan. CBS can make one hour TBBT as lead in for this PoI major episode. They already do that on monday block with one hour 2BG. And CBS must advertise Nolan debut and episode “Relevance” like crazy on super bowl and grammys. From now i can say that will take Emmy and golden globe nomination. And if successful PoI spin-off will make fans and CBS happy.
Thirteen episodes of UNFORGETTABLE and they don’t start airing until 7/28? They only way they could get fewer viewers is if they sold them to the new Al Jazeera channel.
So happy to hear Big Brother will start in late June! Hope it’s an All Stars season!! And Under The Dome sounds really fantastic!
Some notes. Stick a fork in The Mentalist; Sunday at 10p is where CBS sends shows to die these days. The Good Wife has got to be on the bubble for next season.
Dramas Monday at 10p seem to work for CBS after their comedy block — perhaps we’ll see a new one there next season? Gotta wonder if next season, Hawaii Five-O is shifted to Friday nights at 9:00p. My gut tells me this is a test run. Keep in mind CBS has to keep the pipeline for syndication filled.
It’s interesting to see how BB is being hammocked on Tuesday night between NCIS & NCIS: LA. Dunno if POI might fit there? Something new next season?
Unscripted shows seem to work for CBS at 8:00p Wednesday & Friday. I don’t see CBS messing with their current Thursday night schedule if they can help it.
