EXCLUSIVE: NBC’s freshman Chicago Fire has been a late bloomer. The firefighter drama did not premiere until October. It started off slow but held onto its lead-in and did just well enough in its first few airings to earn a back 9 order. The Dick Wolf-produced series then kept steady and started to grow, hitting series highs earlier this month. Now it has been given an order for one extra episode, bringing its freshman season to 23 episodes.

You might say this particular drama is on fire while most of the rest of Nbc’s horrible programs are just burning.
Wahoo! I love this show. Keep ‘em coming.
I hope this stays around for a second season! I wish more people would tune into this. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this comes back and SVU will finally hit the road. This has a very talented young cast that makes me actually look forward to something on NBC again.
Don’t worry. Have you seen the ratings for this? Its not going anywhere.
Obviously you don’t know much about good tv shows or how ratings work.
CF would struggle without SVU bringing it a sizeable lead-in from its very tough timeslot.
The current schedule seems to be working and NBC would be dumb to mess with the formula.
Yet it beat Svu more than ones on the same night in the ratings
I thought this was a good show when I first started watching. Had it programmed to record every week after last nights show I won’t watch again. I know the world is changing but I don’t have to watch the crap that was on last night
Love this show.
I’m loving it
Great news! I can’t get enough of this show.
I agree! SVU and CF are both wonderful shows!
I never expected I would like Chicago Fire as much as I do. But I’m hooked on it. It’s a really fun show to watch. Glad it’s doing well.
… seriously? All they did was take Trauma from two years ago, and swap out female drama for shirtless male drama.
I guess that’s what works these days. Pretty sad.
If Trauma had aired now, with the ratings it had at the time, it would probably be a similarly top-rated show for NBC like Chicago Fire. The problem is that expectations for NBC shows were higher back in 2009.
Have you actually watched the show? It couldn’t be more different. I was researching an actor for casting recently and watched an old episode of Trauma — it was all paced up jump-cuts and hand-held camera with flashy effects. And lots of snarky one-liners. Very different feel from Chicago Fire. And have no idea what you’re talking about the “female drama” on Trauma, but the two female leads on Chicago Fire are heavily featured and strong characters.
I remembered that this show was penned by the critics before it premiered.
The lesson is don’t listen to the critics!!
I think their shots of the firemen doing their jobs are excellent! They could leave out the love scenes!
Happy to hear! As a transplant from Chicago to L.A, it’s nice to see a show about my hometown – even if it is a borderline Abercrombie & Fitch ad in disguise.
