The Django Unchained actor is already in the thick of the Supporting Actor Oscar race after taking the Golden Globe earlier this month for his role as bounty hunter King Schultz in the Quentin Tarantino pic. Now Christoph Waltz will get some free “for your consideration” face time when he hosts Saturday Night Live for the first time February 16 — a week and a day before the February 24 Academy Awards. NBC made the announcement today about the gig, which puts Waltz in front of the country (and undecided Oscar voters?) three days before Academy members’ final ballots are due. Alabama Shakes will be the musical guest.

It’s good that SNL books unheard-of bands or artists. That way they get publicity and praise. And that I don’t have to hear a bad well-known band or artist.
Oh and I hope Christoph does great. He is amazing.
Christoph Waltz has done a number of comedy bits on Jimmy Kimmel and he’s shown himself to be a good sport and not afraid of looking silly. This will be a big plus for his SNL hosting gig.
Alabama Shakes are not that unheard of, they got a few Grammy nods.
Waltz has great comedy chops even as a nazi, paired up with the awesomely talented Alabama shakes, if this isn’t the best SNL episode of the year, there is something terribly wrong going on in their writing room and I’m looking in the direction of Bobby Moynihan anchored skits.
Christoph Will get a good laugh before he claims his 2nd Oscar the following week.
Personally, I’d love to see Ani Difranco perform on SNL, only because I idolize her & I love SNL!!!
