Cinemax has renewed Banshee for a second season three weeks into the action series’ freshman run. The second season of the drama, executive produced by Alan Ball, Jonathan Tropper, David Schickler, Peter Macdissi and Greg Yaitanes, will air in 2014. In its January 11 premiere, Banshee drew a respectable 483,000 viewers at 10 PM and 965,000 over three airings. This is the first truly homegrown Cinemax series, having started as a project in development at sibling HBO. It joins Strike Back as the second Cinemax series to score a second-season renewal.
Banshee stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, Pa., where he continues his criminal activities — even as he’s hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier. Tropper and Schickler wrote Season 1. They will be joined in Season 2 by writers John Romano (Monk), Evan Dunsky (Nurse Jackie), and Doug Jung (HBO’s Big Love).

This show is awesome. It’s especially fabulous when I watch it before going to bed then have sexy dreams about the Sheriff
This is one of the best shows so far to come out. I do not miss any episode. It is so entertaining and exciting to watch!! I just can’t wait each week for it to come on.
This is the best show I have seen since ’24′. It has you so tied into each episode. I just saw the season finale on Friday night 3/15/2013, and let me tell you, it had me salivating for more. I can’t believe the season is over already. And to add insult to injury. I have to wait for another 10 “LONG” months for Season 2.
The Mayor got blown up in the casino, The “Real” Lucas Hood’s body was dug up, Carrie’s family packed up and left her, Nola Longshadow is proving to be a very dangerous player, The “Real” Lucas Hood’s son saw a video of Hood beating the MMA Fighter, and finally the “Fake” Lucas Hood is now in debt to Kai Proctor for saving his life. How exciting is that!! I can’t wait for season 2 to come.
I just hope the creators, the writers, the producers and Cinemax do not mess with the formula of this show. I hope they realize a great thing they have and don’t start experimenting because of complaints that there is too much sex and violence. You know the cliche. These guys have got it right.
Anonymous you realy have it down pat, awsome show, and the season finale was truly something I didn’t see comming. Cinemax don’t ruin it, keep it raw the way it is, big fan. Strike Back another good show, you guys are realy doing a great job.
Glad to hear it, I’ve really been enjoying it.
AMAZING news, guys!!!
Matt Servitto is by far one of ther best and most intriguing actors on the show, Banshee. His work is phenomenal. Great show. Thrilled to see it being renewed for a seconf season. Honestly, Mr. Servitto is the main reason we even subscribe to Cinemax. Watching him on Banshee is the highlight of our TV viewing week. Keep up the great work guys!!
Awful pilot.
Looked like something that belonged on FOX.
Go watch the sound of music
The Best Show on Cable. Love It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting that a show with an audience of 300 thousand per episode gets renewed so fast into its 1st season.
You misunderstood–the first episode–which air three times during the first week–got an audience of almost a million viewers–and these numbers don’t include DVR or MaxGo ratings–which will surely push it much higher.
Look at MAGIC CITY on Starz, which got renewed before it even premiered and then had about those numbers. Of course, that series wasn’t particularly good, whereas BANSHEE has been really enjoyable – granted, only three episodes have aired and there’s a long way to go. But the show takes a cool idea (outlaw posing as a sheriff) and executes it well by turning a lot of familiar tropes on their head (Amish crime boss, transgender computer hacker, etc.). It doesn’t all work and the gratuitous sex/violence can feel forced at times, but I’m excited to see where the series goes, especially if Antony Starr’s performance keeps improving each week (as it has) and it gets to the point where he is on the same high level as the other main actors.
You’ve got to be kidding me! Antony Starr has been fantastic all the way. He is the emotional core of this show, and it wouldn’t be anywhere near as popular as it is, if his Hood wasn’t so incredibly well portrayed. Hood IS the show, so your comment really makes no sense whatsoever.
Wish they’d also pick up Hunted.
I’ve tried, but I just cannot understand the hype for this show. I think they lost me when the protagonist shoved a bottle of steak sauce in one of the bad guys mouths and shot him.
Love the T&A!
Hate the stories.
More T&A!!
Less of that talking and stuff…
Mind blowing show.
This is one of the only cable shows I know that looks like it’s shot on a CBS sound stage.
For the love of God… at least make your sets convincing.
Are u high? This show is not on any sound stage, What show are you watching. I highly doubt you really seen this show. I highly doubt anyone who trashes this show has actually even seen it. The show is brilliant
Best show on tv since eastbound and down….so stoked for season 2…i hope it never ends
Tonights episode of Banshee just ruin this series!!!! I think it just took a complete NOSE DIVE…. So many things that are toooo far fetch keep happening around the main two stars! smh
I live in Harrisburg PA. Great show, but NOTE; Pittsburgh is three hours from Harrisburg and Amish county is 1/2 hour from Harrisburg, other than that, I think the show and the characters are fasinating.. Hope there is a season 3.
This is one of the best shows on cable. If this were on HBO or Showtime the numbers would be off the charts. I’m a inbound sales rep for comcast. I can tell you that people are just starting to find the show. Next season people will be buying Cinamax just for Banshee.
The most exciting show on television. I’ve told everyone I know…be sure and don’t miss one episode. Better than most movies out there, but most people have never heard of it. Love the cast!
It’s a great show & one of my husband’s favorites..glad it’s been renewed for a season 2…but air date is 2014? You mean we have to wait about a year for the new season to start? C’mon CMax..move up the dates!!
Totally agree!!!!
this show is exciting the plot is very different the action scenes are intense and the guy is easy on the eyes
I love , love , love this show , can’t get enough of sheriff hood !!!!
Love this show just wish I did not have to wait till next year for season 2…
Banshee is awesome. I can’t wait for season 2 already and season 1 isn’t even over yet. Love that hood and proctor are teaming up!
I adore hard-hitting drama. Favorites of the past were Oz, The Shield, Damages, Breaking Bad (of course), & the short-lived Hit and Miss. Another winner here. Thank you !!!!
Despite the rare negativity, this is the most entertaining show I’ve seen in ages. I’d compare.. But I can’t as far as entertainment goes. I’m now a loyal prescriber to Cinemax.
Really good drama! Love it ! Very entertaining and exciting ! I’m looking forward to watch each episode ! So happy to hear the show it’s been renewed for 2 season !!! Ivona
I just watched the season finale and the first thing I did was check for when season two begins. I can’t believe we have to wait until 2014. This is the best series on television.
