Is Lance Armstrong pedaling a confession? The disgraced former seven-time Tour de France cycling champion will appear on OWN’s Oprah’s Next Chapter on January 17, the network announced today. This interview with Oprah Winfrey will be Armstrong’s first since the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency charged him with using illegal performance-enhancing drugs during a career that has made him one of America’s and the world’s most well-known athletes. The big question is whether Oprah will rip the skin off Armstrong the way she did author James Frey after he promoted his recovery memoir A Million Little Pieces, and then came back to be flayed when it was revealed he’d embellished big parts of the book.
That seems like small stuff compared to Armstrong, but maybe he’ll get a nicer Oprah since he didn’t lie to her, only the rest of the world, apparently. The cyclist, who nearly died from testicular cancer only to recover and win his seven Tour de France titles, all along denied the doping claims that followed in his victorious wake. However, with the results of the Anti-Doping Agency investigation Armstrong was stripped of his wins. He has since lost most of his corporate sponsors, resigned from his charity and has been banned from competition for life. The 90-minute special, filmed at Armstrong’s Austin home, comes amid reports this week that Armstrong was looking for a forum to come clean.

Lance Armstrong, fuck off and go away.
You lied, millions supported you and you made fools out of all of us. But it is over. Go away, we never need to hear from you again.
The media loves a mea culpa…”I was addicted to drugs”, “I cheated” etc. People Magazine will follow up with the “real” story and all will be forgiven. Then comes the tell all book and press tour where the confessions and tears are profuse. Then the TV movie. All of this, a agents a dream.
Fraud with an out-of-check ego. Too late.
Knew it from the start! Can’t wait to see his walk of shame.
And he chose a very low-rated network to give his side of the story? What a fool and tool this guy is!
What a selfish S.O.B. Oprah is just as vain. Loo loo looser
who cares if he used drugs? there are tons of things that could be an unfair advantage
Tons? Name 3 that would give you an unfair advantage that are illegal.
cadres of guys on the highways in their snazzy bike gear were indeed taken in…you culd hear the afcionado jazz over traffic noise…nothing more strident than their response when any among them questioned armstrong’s achievement or character…and there were more than a few…the icon and his machine were more transparent than plastic wrap (in an environmet that had zero credibility from the first days of its asencion as tv’s new ad engine…almost as see-through as big time college network moneyball.
He ‘fessed’ up?? When did he fess up? He’s been denying doping for years. Isn’t that why he’s going on Oprah, to ‘fess up’?
Thanks for the edit.
This will be the final interview for Lance, after which no one will ever want to hear from him again. He’ll be like OJ going into a local restaurant after his acquittal. People will turn their heads and avoid him. He may get plastic surgery so people won’t be able to recognize him.
So, murder and cheating are roughly the same, I guess?
Hope he has a nice apology for all the people who’s lives he ruined (or tried to ruin) in his long standing effort to cover up cheating.
Exactly. The guy ruthlessly pursued and crushed anyone who had the balls to tell the truth about his cheating. For him to crawl out of the sewer now and offer a public mea culpa just to win back the public love and save his own reputation/finances is just another form of the same runaway ego that got him into this trap in the first place. Lance is a first class douche bag – ask anyone who has ever dealt with him. She won’t do it, but Oprah should pummel him with questions about the people whose lives he wrecked when they dared to cross him with the truth.
Got to give credit to Oprah for trying to give this network life. I saw the Letterman special and it was good but those annoying shots of people’ putting on Oprah’s makeup coming out of the breaks have go to go. I’m hoping the Lance Armstrong interview will have a house band fronted by Sheryl Crow.
A) him doping did nothing to hurt anyone… except the doper who came in second place, I guess…
B) he had testicular cancer, which I assume means he had a ball removed… give the guy a break. he needed the boost to bring his levels back to normal and to offset the balance issues that come with being a uniball on a bicycle seat…
Break? He took people to court who accused him of doping. I would say that cancer still left him with plenty of balls.
You don’t get it Lance. We don’t care anymore.
What do you tell your kids? So much for the role model thing. Go back to being has been in Texas.
Who cares about Lance — it’s over !! If he thinks people think about him he is ONE NUT ………
I would like to see him do jail time for the fraud he committed and the money he got from sponsors while doing it. Not to even he mention the threats he made to people who knew of his lies.
He won’t admit to anything he’ll be like Pete Rose who continually denies ever betting on baseball. Lance wants to get as many people as possible to watch him deny every single doping charge. Oprah is a publicity whore she’s more disgusting than any of the people she interviews she is awful and she’s selfish and greedy with her billions of dollars she should give it all away to help poor black families but she won’t ever do that she makes me sick.
Say it ain’t so!
Still denying Marsha? This was the most systematic doping scandal in the history of sport, Lance the great American hero was ruthless in destroying all who came forward….all of the good he has done, will not make up for the lives he destroyed.
I will believe only when I will hear it from him. It’s amazing how they took all his wins only because that one and that one said so. If he was tested positive then tell us what year it was and take victory from that year. But no. He was tested 400-500 times. Never positive. But yet they took away all victories and media did a disgusting witch hunt on him. Like we live in year 1200.
Like some Michael Jordan “Chicago Bulls” team mates will say: “Hey, I remember how I saw Jordan take doping 15 years ago. Ask this janitor – he saw it too”. And officials are like: “Seriously? That you guys. Now let’s take away all Jordan’s titles throughout his whole career. Take that lying fraud”….
Well I kind of suspicious that he didn’t defend himself and just went quiet. But still – man was tested so many freaking times. They all hated him: other cyclists, the officials. They wanted him to be caught on doping so badly, there were tests after every race. And still – THERE WERE NO POSITIVE TESTS. He is some superman that invented new drug that can’t be seen even after ten years? They suspect him but never proved because his tests were clean. So they just took away all his wins because some lying team mates said so.
I will believe it only when I will hear it from him.
Oprah, Oprah, Oprah. Whom has stooped lower?
Not sure why many feel hard done by Lance. He never beat you at a cycle race and took your prize money. Not sure how his life effects your daily lives..he has to deal with the consequences of his actions but actually has nothing to do with anyone. We all fail and disappoint, some more than others. If this hadn’t come to light, many would still be singing his praises.
Lance said hes done defending himself. Hes tired. Don’t blame him. Drugs didn’t win 7 tours and all of you haven’t accomplished crap in your lives so it’s easy to tear him down to your borderline shadow existences.
Oh how we love to elevate athletes to the hero level because we have nothing else better to do, while real heros go unnoticed. Whats even better? Tearing them down as if they made us adore them.
Lance may be a dick…but has done a lot of good, maybe some bad…whatever…but he was never a hero. He was an athlete who rode a bike. Get a life people.
AMEN!!!
