EXCLUSIVE: NBC has given a pilot order to Bloodline, a stylized drama from writer David Graziano (Awake, Lie To Me) and producers Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey. Berg is set to direct the pilot, produced by Universal TV and Berg and Aubrey’s Film 44.
Bloodline, which reflects Graziano’s love of pulp, graphic novels and ancient mythology, is a contemporary pulp action thriller in the vein of Kill Bill. Set against the backdrop of modern suburbia, it follows the story of an orphaned young girl, Bird Benson, who, due to an accident of birth, is caught in the epic struggle between two warring families of mercenaries and killers. Mentored by a mysterious Chinese man, Bird must accept the quest to find and defeat her mother in mortal combat if she is ever to lead a normal life. Graziano is exec producing with Berg and Aubrey. Bloodline extends Graziano’s relationship with NBC entertainment president Jennifer Salke who signed Graziano in an overall deal while at 20th TV. In addition to Bloodline, WME-repped Berg and Film 44 have drama M.I.C.E., based on the Israeli format The Gordin Cell, which received a put pilot commitment at NBC, with Berg writing/directing. Graziano, repped by Rothman Brecher Kim, also has mob drama The Sixth Family in the works at Cinemax, with Warner Horizon producing.
At NBC, Bloodline joins off-cycle medical drama pilot After Hours and recently picked up comedy pilot The Gates.

So is this what today’s going to be? Happy January.
My kind of story…anxiously awaiting…I hope it isn’t disappointing…wish they would cast Korean actress Ha Ji Won…my first pick. Angelina Jolie is my second(even though she may be too old for character)…or Charlize Theron, or Zoe Saldana (if pushed to a fourth)
This sounds pretty darn interesting to me. Good concept, hope they can pull it off without it becoming a joke.
I can only hope the bird benson role is played by a white actress, we need more diversity on television and i can’t remember the last time a white women has been mentored by a elderly Chinese man to seek revenge. You need those kinds of twists to draw in an audience.
Revenge
This sounds great except that it will be on network television.
How is this ‘off cycle.’ Aren’t we in or about to be in pilot season?
let me see if I’m understanding this… a show about a little girl who is orphaned but being raised by two families of killers all the while being mentored by a man who is teaching her to kill her own mother in mortal combat. Really. How in God’s name is this entertainment. How about a show that actually shows familial love, devotion and respect instead of feeding into the violent beast that our storytelling seems to be mired in. Just a thought.
I played an orderly in After Hours — its called “off cycle” because it got an early order — and so we already filmed it here in New Mexico back in November. I fully expect it to get picked up.
These pilots often sound cool, but always disappoint on network TV. It also sounds very derivative of other things which I’m cool with if it kicks ass.
Graziano appears to be a guy who comes up with concept pilots so complex the audience can barely follow. What’s the theme of this? How do you sell a show about a young woman trying to kill her own mother? Is dark really selling on network television?
i thought it was going to be a vampire series !!! too bad
Good on ya Graz!!!!!
Just read this script. Yikes!!
I’m sure you can find leave it to beaver reruns on your cable.
