Dramedy procedural Bones will continue to be the longest-running live-action series on Fox with a renewal for a ninth season. The pickup came after stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, whose current contracts were up at the end of this season, closed new deals right before the New Year. “After more than 150 episodes, Bones continues to be one of television’s most dynamic and consistent dramas,” said Fox chairman Kevin Reilly.
Bones returns with all new episodes, beginning with a two-hour winter premiere, on Monday. It will be used to launch Fox’s midseason drama hopeful The Following. Bones was created by Hart Hanson. Hanson, Stephen Nathan, Ian Toynton, Barry Josephson and Jonathan Collier are executive producers for 20th Century Fox TV.

WHY??? I’m always amazed by the stupidity over at Fox. Expect the ratings to continue falling for this once( a long time ago ) program. Any fans defending this decision will be doing so based on what Bones used to be. Those fans are living in a dreamworld if they believe Bones is anywhere as good as it used to be in its’ prime. I was once a longtime Bones fan, but, they totally ruined this show with that whole “baby” storyline (among other things). The way they completely changed this program totally turned me off. Bones is now a shadow of its’ former self. I dare say that I am not the only ex-fan who feels that way. Any real fan of what used to be a great well-written show knows this ISN’T the same program-not at all! Fans shoud consider themselves lucky that Bones airs on Fox-a place with not many programs they can renew. Only reason Bones was renewed was because Fox had to renew something-PLAIN & SIMPLE. We all have a right to our opinion.Yet,I look forward to all the hate I’m sure to recieve from ravenous Bones fans. If you guys searched your heart of hearts-you’d see this isn’t the same program it used to be THAT’S JUST THE WAY THINGS ARE.
Really, Really? Why are you so upset about a show you used to watch getting picked up? Maybe others enjoy it and have grown with the story lines. Picking up Bones is one decision that Fox has gotten right, don’t fault them for picking up a solid if unspectacular performer. The cabinet, successful series wise is pretty bare over there. Bones is produced by 20th for FBC. More seasons = more coins for the conglom.
Cheer up, Really. Things aren’t so bad.
*( a long time ago)good program*
Just curious, would this had been renewed if it aired on Cbs with their higher/tougher ratings standards?
I am hoping Bones gets a 10th season.
Really??? just does not get it. Bones might not be the same. BUT it’s not the same because it has evolved, something a good series does.
The only change I wish they would make is to allow Temperance to finally be diagnosed with Autism, a disorder the character clearly deals with.
What were they going to do about Emily Deschanel being pregnant? Hide her stomach for seven episodes?! It was te best they could do for her being pregnant in real life. Of course it isn’t the same exact show anymore but do you want to watch the same stuff over and over for nine seasons? It’s not like the show has drastically changed and all true Bones fans wanted them to eventually get together. It just didn’t happen they way they planned because Emily was pregnant. They would have probably waited longer if she wasn’t pregnant.
But why?
No way, Bones struggled to stay above a 2.0 demo rating. While this makes it the second highest hourlong on FOX behind only Glee, CBS shows not on Fridays should be getting at least a 2.3 for renewal to even be considered, save for special cases like syndication deals (Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods)
Awesome!
I think it’s great! “Bones” signaled a return to dramatic productions after more than a decade of “reality” shows that are anything but reality! TJ Thyne is AWESOME on this show and it is great to see an ensemble cast working together so well!
I love this show and the baby storyline didn’t screw anything up! I think “sweets” is awesome and Booth and Brennan continue to work as a couple and partners…they show works!
I think Bones is better then it EVER was it is refreshing and fun and filled with great cases and stories. I have no fear it could go 11 seasons if Emily & David want to stay at it. Bones is so well written and acted a superb cast & crew.
Bones you are still a leader among quality programs. Congratulations to cast and crew for season 9 renewal I’m still here and am enjoying the Bones ride. Thank you Fox.
Yea! So glad to hear this & hope they have a tenth season. Viewer from the first show & will be til the end. Great actors/actresses/storylines etc.
swell for them
I recently just started watching Bones. Went back, watched every episode up to the present. I am asking myself why I never watched it before. Bravo to FOX for renewing. When you take the time to truly look at television and evening shows- Bones is the only logical choice if your attention span requires interest. Love it. Hope it keeps going.
Bravo! If we’re lucky, they’ll renew it for a 10th season or more.
The baby storyline did not do the show in. It was dead way before that. The writers just ran out of good stuff after seasons 4-5. They stretched out the Booth/Bones romance waaay to long. Before the baby, it was four straight seasons of the same exact stuff: typical case-of-the-week type format, sprinkle in some scenes of Booth and Bones doing something cutesy/flirty together but not actually doing anything serious, rinse and repeat. At least now with the baby and the two of them being together, SOMETHING changed. Too bad they’ve written all the characters into a corner. Bones is now a robot who barely understands basic human interaction. Booth is now just a big, mushy goofball, not the former army ranger with quirks. Angela is always conflicted over how she hates looking at dead bodies and wants to do art. Cam struggles to balance being professional and personal.
It’s sad what they did to this show. Whatever became of the program I actually used to enjoy…
I am a huge fan of Bones. It has stonger story lines and is so imaginative. The acting is strong from each character. We want more, not less. We have to see what happens with Pelant! Please keep this show as long as the actors are willing. The writing, directing and producing are superb also. Each one is my favorite character. Bring Max In more series and also Angela’s father!
