After months of complete silence on the In Living Color special Fox ordered more than a year ago, the writing was on the wall, and today Fox chairman Kevin Reilly made the decision official. “It’s not gonna happen,” he said during the network’s executive session at TCA. “(The original) was a seminal show for Fox, and the bar was set at that level.” Reilly left the door open to potentially doing an In Living Color reboot “but not the one we shot.”

I don’t get it, they shot one and it sucked so they are burying it? I figured the cost of paying the cast would ultimately be problematic.
What light through yonder window breaks… it is the sketch comedy light that shineth upon Fox and causeth them to be blinded. This is failed attempt #3 in 3 years at a sketch comedy show. Obviously, this is not their forte.
this would have been better as an hourlong reunion special with as much of the original cast as possible and new material.
at the same time, the “head up their ass” network execs need to stop looking to the past and to movies and to foreign markets for new projects to develop.
Wow Fox cannot get it together can they? What’s the problem with their comedy department?
I find that mainstream network TV can’t really do variety/sketch comedy shows anymore, and haven’t been able for a long time. Also, calling it In Living Color may have been a strategic mistake. People’s memories of sketch comedy shows create a near impossible standard to match because folks tend to remember only the best bits.
They might have been better off developing a completely new show for a cable channel like FX, with a new title, and make sure to mention that it’s from “the creators of ‘In Living Color.’”
Again, makes no sense. Anyone old enough to remember the show won’t watch a show like this. Weird.
this was doomed from the start. bitter infighting, creative indecision, lack of will at the network level to make things happen. Oh, and it wasn’t funny.
They should have never cancelled Mad TV. That at least had consistent ratings. All this other crap they have tried to develop with Todd Yasui and these other clueless people has been a total waste of time and money.
Fox is so stupid, it’s not as if their schedule is full of hits and they don’t have the room for it. They found a time slot and money to order more of the AWFUL Bob’s Burger’s, but not In Living Color. If the pilot sucked, just hire new writers and cast members, it’s not that difficult people.
The last two sketch attempts by Fox were being run by people who don’t know what sketch comedy is in today’s landscape. You can do an urban sketch show, but that means you need urban SKETCH talent, not some random stand-up or someone who was in the game 30 years ago. There are A LOT of great people out there today, but the people running the ships on this reboot and previous Affion Crocket show don’t know it when they see it. Some smart person needs to get the best writers/performers from UCB, Groundlings, Second City, and put them under one person or a sketch group with a fresh but strong vision. A la Chapelle Show or Key and Peele, or even In Living Color in the old day (All the Wayans). You need a core, then build on that. If SNL is any indication, it’s REALLY hard to get a great ensemble from a bunch of random sketch comedy performers, that’s why it’s so bad ensemble-wise and why we just have breakout performers and rarely memorable SNL seasons.
Disappointed !! I was so looking forward to this !!! There hasn’t been a great sketch show on tv since Chappelles show. I’m guessing Fox tried screwing Keenan yet again like they did years ago…..That sucks !
LET ME SHOW YA SOMETHIN’!
