UPDATED: ABC’s comedies in the Sunday 10 PM hour experiment was short lived. The network had scheduled new episodes of Happy Endings and Don’t Trust The B—- In Apt. 23 from 10-11 PM on Sunday on January 6, 13 and 20. But after two low-rated airings, ABC is taking the comedies, which
continue to air on Tuesday, off Sunday. To make room for the extra airings of Happy Endings and Apt. 23 on Sunday, ABC pulled cancelled freshman drama 666 Park Ave, which was to continue in the Sunday 10 PM time slot until it finishes its 13-episode run. The comedies are now gone from Sundays permanently but fans of 666 Park Ave shouldn’t get their hopes up — ABC won’t be bringing the spooky drama back to the hour either. Instead, a Shark Tank rerun will air at 10 PM this coming Sunday, with a decision on future substitutes TBA. ABC has a Hallmark movie scheduled for January 27, will air Modern Family repeats on Feb. 3 and is yet to book February 10 and 17. The Academy Awards air on February 24, followed by the premiere of midseason drama Red Widow, which will take over the Sunday 10 PM slot the following Sunday.
In the second of their two Sunday outings last week, Happy Endings matched a series low in 18-49 with a 1.0/2, while Apt. 23 hit a series low of 0.8/2. The comedies will continue to air originals of the comedies in their Tuesday 9-10 PM slot until ABC phases out its Tuesday comedy block in March. That would leave five unaired episodes of Happy Endings and one of Apt. 23 whose future is unclear.

Absolutely no surprise there. I don’t know whatever possessed Abc to put those two comedies on Sundays. Comedies don’t do well on Sunday nights at 10/10:30 P.M. The unaired episodes of 666 probably would have gotten better numbers than those comedies. The title of that upcoming midseason drama Red Widow sounds somewhat indicative of Abc’s ongoing programming problems Sunday nights at 10 P.M. PanAm,666PA,&,two lame comedies. What gem will Abc throw at us next? Unless a miracle occurs & Red Widow breaks the awful streak Abc currently has Sundays at 10P.M.
Those comedies, while low rated, are far from lame. They are actually some of the best comedies on TV.
Happy Endings has actually improved since the first season in my opinion. Apt 23, on the other hand, is still an abomination.
Happy Endings is almost becoming the show that scoops up that middle ground between Community fans who lampoon The Big Bang Theory for its simpleton humor and lack of comedic variety, and The Big Bang Theory fans who trash Community for trying too hard to be hipster, ironic, and high low-brow and low high-brow funny.
Love both shows, ABC has aired them all out of order and moved them around a lot. PLus I never see any advertising for them. Hope they find ratings b/c their fun shows that deserve to be on the air.
Dammit. I really like Happy Endings, and I think Apt. 23 is fun filler. Although Sunday’s Apt. 23 episode…it had to have been an unaired early season one episode, which was disconcerting.
But save Happy Endings!!!
I want both shows saved. These two comedies are some of the few laugh out loud comedies on the air.
Absolutely.
Had ZERO knowledge they even aired the two shows on Sunday, and ‘Happy Endings’ is one of the, eh, four total half-hour comedies I watch. And annoying in that I also watch Fox’s ‘New Girl’, airing at the same time on Tuesdays, but the move was hardly, how you say, publicized to its fan base. ‘Happy’ is extremely funny and its voice is growing .. WHY ARE THEY TRYING TO KILL IT THROUGH DUMB PROGRAMMING CHOICES??
Guess they’re just two of those comedies that everybody loves and nobody watches. Lot of that going around these days.
These days? Thirty, thirty-five years ago the same thing was said about WKRP and Taxi. Please, this is nothing new.
Shocking that this “strategy” didn’t pay off.
OMG, I can’t believe this! Oh ABC, *shakes head*
Uh,they could always bring back GCB to Sunday nights HA HA HA HA HA
Happy Endings is one of my favorite shows and I hate what ABC is doing to it. I wish TBS would take HE instead of that awful ‘Cougar Town’ and let it flourish with a new audience.
Disagree about Cougar Town. The show is hilarious, reminiscent of Scrubs. I do agree that Happy Endings would do better on TBS but I don’t think TBS would bite on this show as it seems to be in this perpetual place where it has a moderate following but not a vocal one like that of Cougar Town or Community. It won’t draw too much outrage because ABC has done a horrendous job of promoting this show. So if ABC cancels this show, I suspect it will stay dead for good which is unfortunate because it really has improved since the so-so first season.
It was always intended to JUST be for 2-3 weeks of airing BONUS EPISODES. This was never really a great strategy. Don’t Trust the B—- is still on Tuesdays as was always the plan.
It was a valid shot. Any of you notice all the cable comedies on Sunday nights the past two decades? And those two shows fit the 10pm sensibility.
Is ABC deliberately trying to sabotage its schedule strong points? It’s fouled up Sunday.
Shonda Rhimes can’t hold up the whole network, yo.
It is ABC scheduling we are talking about… Honestly I don’t think anyone there knows how to program….
Red Widow, Shield, and Zero Hour will all likely failed because ABC does not know where to put them.
Zero Hour against Idol and TBBT… Can I say bye bye to Zero Hour..
Shield will likely get the Sunday at 9PM slot.. Why? No self respecting geek will watch it at that hour…
Red Widow… Against The Mentalist…. Is ABC trying to steal Mentlist fans by kinda ripping of the Red John villain..
bummed to see how horribly they’ve been handling happy endings and apt 23. they both are two of the few shows to give me genuine laughs and their casts all have good chemistry with each other. wish they were on a different network so they could get the attention the deserve.
fox has made new girl into a popular show even though it’s bloody awful. abc, take notes. you can do so much better. you have the content.
Save happy Endings! Wittiest show on television!
SAVE HAPPY ENDINGS!
It’s the best comedy on television, it shouldn’t be cancelled because ABC doesn’t know what to do with comedies that aren’t on wednesdays…
I’m SHOCKED that this brilliant idea didn’t work…I mean it was such a good idea…NOT!
I really didn’t like happy endings. Feels like watching someone get bullied. However the b is not bad, but certainly not appt tv.
ABC has made one bad decision after another with Happy Endings. A horrible advertising campaign for the Tues show from the get go. A late start in the season allowed NBC and FOX to build their Tues night audiences. ZERO promotion on the “new” Sunday comedy block. Many fans are saying they had NO idea that it was even on Sundays! You can’t just put a show on a new night and not tell Anyone!
Happy Endings was on many critics “Top 10 TV Shows of 2012″ and NO ONE knows it. ABC really has something special with Happy endings – and they are single-handedly killing it. ABC doesn’t know what to do with cool comedy. They just don’t have a place for something edgy and young in their schedule.
And then… just when ABC stated that they aren’t going to pursue a Tues comedy block – NBC ANNOUNCED THEY ARE EXPANDING TUES NIGHT COMEDIES. Formally last place NBC has now officially trumped ABC.
I pray another network is waiting in the wings to grab this great show.
Tonight’s episodes of both of these shows were amazing.
The weird out of order episodes they were showing on Sundays were like bizzaro world.
Alex and Dave weren’t together on Happy Endings.
Chloe and June weren’t “friends” yet on Apt 23.
Weird. (I still enjoyed them though.)
My wife and I are actually sad that we won’t get 2 episodes a week of these shows, but we hope this is for the best.
We really hope they get renewed, and perhaps a consistent time slot rather than getting moved all around weirdly and randomly.
It’s all ABC’s fault they should think twice before cancelling a hit show! Brother & Sisters could still be going strong in that time slot!
Save APT23!!!
ABC hasn’t lifted a finger to promote these shows. I had no idea they were even on sundays. but it was apparently only meant to be for 2 weeks anyway…
Apt 23 will have aired ALL episodes when they finish in march
ABC PEOPLE—– SUPPORT YOUR SHOWS. PROMOTE THEM THE WAY THEY DESERVE
APT23 AND HAPPY ENDINGS ARE QUALITY SHOWS. GIVE THEM A CHANCE!
Is ABC now the new “NBC”?
The apartment 23 episodes were being burned off since leftovers from season one. Interestingly they made the right call by pulling them out of 1st season lineup because they were not good.
HE sux. ABC should accept it and cancel that piece of trash instead of trying to ram it down our throats. No matter where they put it ratings are low. Other shows with higher ratings have been canceled.
What’s up with abc? They take off all the good shows and keep the bad ones. I grow up on ch 7, watched all my children ,one life to live,a lot of great shows, now I’m so disappointed about the 666 park avenue. But yet the stuiped shows stay on. I’ve been talking to friends and were all starting not to watch anything on abc. We will tell anyone that will listen not to watch abc anymore!!!
