I bet anyone ten bucks Michael Shannon was iffy on this, and then someone said, “Well, one of the 100+ Kuklinski killed will be played by a sniveling James Franco,” and Shannon was like, “You should have led with that. I’m in.”
Dear Hollywood: more casting of Michael Shannon please. This looks great.
Ariel Vromen is great at developing complex characters & reveals their richness like an IV drip throughout a film (*see Danika). Richard Kuklinski is the ideal sudject (*see the Iceman interviews on YouTube). The Iceman is tailor made for Vromen & everyone knows Michael Shannon is intensely genius. Expect a very good film. But…he should have given me an audition.
damn this looks good… and holy shit, winona ryder is coming back. she’s more than holding her own with the amazing michael shannon. can’t wait. and yes, it’s a bonus to watch franco get shot.
i love that they removed all ambiguity around whether or not james franco dies. he just gets plugged in the trailer. they actually consider it to be one of their best sell points. based on some comments here, they’re right.
This guy is one of the most interesting actors in both film and TV. I re-watched his Van Alden freakout scene on BW Empire at least ten times, but his performance is so much more than the payoffs. Every tic, every feigned smile, is just perfect.
Looking forward to seeing his Zod.
Wow – being a big fan of Carlo’s book – I had been thrilled about Shannon getting this role. Looks like he cut weight – rather than gained it. Plus, the story should be about how he became”The Polack” a name he hated; who represented the one guy each of the five families knew they could use – for $38,000. I hope they at least introduce Roy DeMeo – it would be smart to have their hate-hate relationship play out. Finally, Kuklinksi claimed to be the killer or a member of the hit team for: Carmine Gallante, Fat Paul Costellano,Hoffa and Demeo. One way to write ot would be to cut to the events taking place and letting the audience decide, as in the book. There’s plenty, his clicking noise, mr. softee and cyannide, so they can;t mess it up THAT bad.
Deadline is a great site – I think Gajonka Film Universe named Desdline the best film site for 2012. GFU did a good write up on Ben Aflleck – as to why he didnt get the Oscar nod. I was waiting to see what Deadline would do – but GFU did a swell job. I think it is gajonkafilmuniverse.blogspot.com
Thanks
