MTV‘s new president of programming Susanne Daniels has made her first major executive hire official. ABC Family’s VP Development and Programming Mina Lefevre is joining MTV as SVP and Head of Scripted Programming. Lefevre, who starts in February, will oversee all of MTV’s scripted development and programming. Based in Los Angeles, she will report to Daniels.

MTV’s scripted development had been overseen by SVP Justin Levy, who is now expected to report to Lefevre. Levy, who championed MTV’s breakout comedy Awkward, had been flying solo since MTV’s co-head of scripted programming, SVP Clay Spencer, was let go a day after Daniels was announced as new MTV programming topper. Levy and Spencer had been sharing co-head of scripted duties since February 2011.
At ABC Family, where Lefevre spent 12 years, she oversaw such series as flagship drama Pretty Little Liars as well as Melissa & Joey, Jane by Design, and Lying Game. “Mina was instrumental in establishing ABC Family as a pop culture player, and she’s demonstrated a proven ability to make hits that connect with young adults,” Daniels said. “In addition to our diverse roster of reality programming, MTV’s audience is increasingly hungry for more fun and smart scripted shows, and Mina is the perfect creative voice to join the stellar MTV team – that has already ushered in hits Awkward and Teen Wolf – to build upon the network’s diverse lineup.”
Having originally joined ABC Family’s predecessor, Fox Family Network, Lefevre stayed on after the channel was sold to Disney. and was a member of the core team that established ABC Family’s current programming identity. Lefevre most recently shepherded two of the network’s drama pilots, The Fosters and Socio. In addition to primetime scripted series, Lefevre also oversaw ABC Family’s original movie slate.

Mina is a great person and creative executive! Good for Suzanne, good for MTV, good for Mina and good for the audience!
Congrats, Mina! She’s a wonderful person and executive.
So that explains all the tweeny-bitchy stuff on ABC Family. Maybe now the network can actually develop some family programming.
O this is such a major loss for Abc Family
Mark my words that the new Executive at Abc Family will take whatever Mina developed and turn it all into schlocky teen bull
Pretty Pretty Girls with big white smiles and likeable personalities and Pretty Pretty Boys with surfer bodies and over the top personalities “Socio” will suddenly become about a high Society boy and his girlfriends messy love triangle “The Fosters” will become about a family with all white hot kids and straight parents, or the parents will just disappear altogether “Terminales” will become about a gorgeous surfer girl dealing with a mild case of skin cancer from too many bikini days on the beach Abc Family if it ain’t broke
Congratulations to Mina on the move but sorry Abc Family
That’s nice. When will ABC Family be announcing pilot pickups? I wanna know if they really go through with “Socio” and “The Fosters”.
