EXCLUSIVE: Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Jeff Garlin is set to star opposite Wendi McLendon-Covey in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot How the Hell Am I Normal, written by Adam Goldberg and to be directed by Seth Gordon. Also cast in the project, inspired by Goldberg’s experience growing up in the ’80s with a highly screwed up but loving family, is Hayley Orrantia.
How The Hell Am I Normal is a family comedy set in the ’80s that centers on in-your-face mother Beverly (McLendon-Covey) and hot-tempered father Murray (Garlin) who love their three eccentric kids so much, they can’t bear to see them grow up. Gruff but loveable, for Murray calling you a “moron” is how he parents. A rageaholic, Murray struggles to stay calm after his last heart attack upon a stern warning by his doctor. In her first TV gig, Orrantia will play Beverly and Murray’s daughter Erica, a beautiful, but tough, rebellious and crass high school senior, who manipulates and beats up on her younger brother. Doug Robinson exec produces for Happy Madison. Veteran comedian Garlin, repped by ICM Partners, is probably best known for his role as Larry David’s manager/best friend on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, whose future is unclear. Orrantia, repped by APA and attorney Jeff Biederman, was a contestant on Season 1 of The X Factor as a member of the girl group Lakoda Rayne.

A highly underrated and funny actor, it’s about time Garlin got his own show.
This news is full of win. Adam Goldberg’s pilot is going to be amazing.
This family’s last name should be Cliche’ this is nothing but cliche’s.
I miss the humor, please explain. Tanx
There’s no ‘ after the first cliche, an the second cliche isn’t possessive. It would just be “cliches”.
Adam, you’re in for barrels full of crazy. Start rolling the camera now!
I smell failure all over this project, starting with the title.
This is great because we’ve never seen an in your face mother and a hot tempered father before. At least I haven’t seen them anwyhere ever before this. I can’t wait. This looks great.
But we have never seen one played by Jeff Garlin.
So exciting that Garlin will be returning to his class sitcom roots for the first time since “Bringing Up Jack” in 1996.
“Orrantia will play Beverly and Murray’s daughter Erica, a beautiful, but tough, rebellious and crass high school senior.”
