BREAKING: Joaquin Phoenix is in talks to reteam with The Master helmer Paul Thomas Anderson on Inherent Vice, an adaptation of the Thomas Pynchon detective novel. Annapurna Pictures’ Megan Ellison is backing the picture, as she did The Master. Phoenix is Oscar nominated in The Master, in one of his career best performances. He’s repped by WME and Sloane, Offer, Weber and Dern.

Who is he playing?! Not Doc, right? PTA and JP are a winning combination. JP gave the most original, beautiful and thought-provoking performance of the year and shall (hopefullu) go down in history as such. Add Pynchon to the mix and you have the most interesting project I can think of.

I assume Anderson asked Downey to play someone that wasn’t RDJ. Then RDJ told Anderson to take a hike and committed to Iron Man 4-20.
Alan B., I couldn’t agree more. I am happy about Robert Downey Jr’s career comeback, but his recent film choices are mediocre. This guy , seriously, needs to go back to his indie roots, and take more artistic chances. Robert ( and Johnny Depp ) used to be one of the most fascinating actors to watch on film, but Downey Jr. has lost his edge.
Such a great book. Fingers crossed they make a movie even half as brilliant. And was this article amended to include Ellison’s name? Her publicist sure wants the world to know she hasn’t given up.
