Always going for the shock effect, Kathy Griffin last night stooped to a new low — literally. Joining CNN‘s Anderson Cooper for another wild New Year’s Eve live show, the comedienne at one point knelt down to kiss Cooper’s private parts. The incident occurred during a report from a small Maine town about a local New Year tradition of kissing a sardine on the mouth. Anderson tried to diffuse the situation with a “Kathy, oh, did you drop something?” joke. Replied Griffin, “No I was kissing your sardine.” A tussle ensued, with Cooper trying to lift Griffin up and she continuing to try to kiss his crotch. “I can do this all night long… I’m going down. You know you want to,” she said. Griffin hinted at her intentions earlier in the broadcast when she told Cooper, “I’m going to tickle your sack.”

This is the latest in a long list of acts of inappropriate behavior by Griffin on Cooper’s New Year’s Eve CNN telecast. She previously dropped an f-bomb, shouted down a heckler with a blowjob joke, and stripped to her underwear. Cooper has been silent on the incident but, probably anticipating major offenses, issued an apology before the broadcast. “I want to apologize in advance to anyone @kathygriffin pokes fun of/makes out with/strips down in front of/punches,” he wrote on Twitter yesterday.

It’s Cooper I feel sorry for. He had just tried to make light of his nervousness with Griffith’s shtick on previous broadcasts by referring to a “drinking game” every time he stuttered. Naturally Kathy Griffith saw a good opportunity to further humiliate him. Let’s be clear: she did not “kiss his genitals”, so get real. But this was par for the course of a woman who was clearly shilling her new talk show and an upcoming appearance on Letterman’s show where she has enjoyed stripping down to her underwear to embarrass the host. And that’s the point of all of this: she is a woman full of rage and frankly, extremely low self-esteem to the point of paying a fortune to surgically alter her appearance. Of course there is room for Kathy Griffith to do her business, but not on a worldwide news channel, not even after midnight. Anderson, you are a very good journalist and reporter, you deserve better.
The only part of this reasonable post I have an issue with is the claim that Anderson Cooper is a journalist.
I don’t know why they have kept her on CNN so long since she is
so boring to watch! I have watched the New Years Program for years but have been bored with her and finally this year I turned the TV
off & went to bed at 10:00 P.M. for the first time in years.
I will no longer watch CNN again on New Years Eve. I’ve always enjoyed Anderson on the News Channel but he is also boring on New Years Eve.
What she’ll do next year is sit home and watch her replacement. (Same thing ol’ AC 360 is gonna do.)
I love how outraged all the puritanical moralists on this message board are. I think Kathy is hilarious and unpredictable. If you don’t like her go watch Leno or Ryan Seacrest because they won’t do anything to offend your delicate sensibilities — or anything to remember or talk about either. I am female (and consider myself a feminist) and agree 100% and I am no prude. If a man had fondled a woman’s breasts like this (I think it did happen on another show and the man was crucifed) he would have been slapped and everyone would have cheered. Harrassment is harrassment.
I agree with you. What sort of person would find this funny? To see a familiar TV host groped and fondled by a failed comic is disgusting. What is CNN thinking? If she had used a gay slur, people would be outraged, but she can harrass a gay man on live TV and that’s acceptable?
Cooper has tolerated this long enough – he should refuse to be around this person again outside of a courtroom when she is slapped with a sexual harassment suit. If the genders were switched, feminists would be howling.

What was ‘hysterical’? A marginal celeb who knows nothing about comedy? Did you watch the video? The first time she did it was enough, but she went on and on and on while he turned, crouched and tried to keep the show civilized.
