Leonardo DiCaprio says he’s taking a break from acting. After working on three films in two years, according to the Agence France-Press translation, DiCaprio told the Germany daily Bild ”I am a bit drained. I’m now going to take a long, long break. I’ve done three films in two years and I’m just worn out.” Whether we’ll have time to miss him is another matter. He’s been promoting Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained. Publicity appearances for upcoming releases of Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby (due out May 10th from Warner Bros) and Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street (4th quarter 2013 via Paramount) will likely cut into his time off. There’s also his production company Appian Way. DiCaprio says he plans to use the time to travel and promote environmental awareness. “I would like to improve the world a bit. I will fly around the world doing good for the environment”. His personal environmental lifestyle? “My roof is covered with solar panels. My car is electric. A normal person does not drive more than 50 kilometres (31 miles) a day. That can be done with a plug.”

i think he’s right abt taking a break,u know he getz old everyday and weak,so let him be.
yeah leonardo ,
Best news I’ve heard all day.
Jesus Christ, people. Would you mind using your brain before taking the effort to post any bullcrap comment? What is wrong with flying around the world to do some good for the world? He is doing something about it, at least. What are YOU doing? Sitting at home on the computer being a loser, nitpicking and bitching about someone who actually gives a damn. Human stupidity and ignorance really amaze me sometimes. Most of the time, being environmental-friendly does not even cost that much. In fact, you can save money by recycling and reusing items. Plastic bags, for example. Can get somewhere within half an hour of walking time? Do it. Saves on gas and it’s a good workout. Not hard when you incorporate little habits into your daily schedule.
they have to do that whether the actors like it or not, or they’ll be sweating on film. she gets paid more than enough to hold a fan.
He never said u had to, I don’t think he’s trying to trash talk the non electric car buyers he’s just saying he’s trying to help with the money he has, why do u ppl always have to find a reason to hate
dude.. the plane takes off with or without him. so in the end it’s more efficient and hence more economical to fly around.
I hate when celebrities announce their big: “I’ taking a break or retire”.
Leo honey – you can not take any work, any movie role for 2-3 years and no one will really notice. Sometimes people will ask themselves: “Hey, what happened to DiCaprio, when was the last time he was in a good movie? Yeah whatever”
No need to announce it in a dramatic way.
I guess he should row a boat. I’m sure he’s burning less fuel than the Rockefeller or The Spirit of Louis. And who’s Fan hate’in?!
How much is that long break? 3 months? 10 years? Why do you do this to us, Leo?
Presumably he wasn’t supposed to be dripping with sweat for the next scene. People have jobs. Does it mean that you don’t care about people because janitors clean up the mall where you shop?
What most people don’t know about Leo, is that he doesn’t use private charter. he flies public. The aircraft will fly, with or without him. A personal choice. and an admirable one, regardless of political or personal sway.
its good that Leo is taking a break….now Nicolas Cage can get a few roles
I work 2 jobs. they’re 30 miles from eachother, and 30 miles from home. I work both jobs 4 days a week, and only one the other 2 days (1 day off). Id love to live closer to work, but selling the house isn’t practical at this time, so I have about a 90 mile commute a day (well, 60 miles on the days that I only work 1 job – so 90 four days a week, and 60 two days a week). Neither job allows for electrical hookup to charge an electric car.
Without both jobs, the house payment isn’t made, food isn’t on the table, and electric/water/etc aren’t on.
Considering that my truck is paid for (and can carry my tools when I have to go out on service calls), I don’t feel particularly inclined to get myself locked into a car payment for an electric/hybrid (that I’m not sure could carry my tools anyway).
There’s a lot of people in my position. My brother for example: he lives next to a guy with a prius who has berated him for driving a ford f250. Considering that my brothers in construction and often has 3 guys with him, 2000 pounds of tools, and a trailer full of materials, id say he has the right rig. Id like to see people try to get a house built with work crews in electric/hybrid cars – I imagine it would look a lot like 3 monkeys trying to make love to a bowling ball.
How else do you expect him to get around? It’s not like he can ride a bike to Africa. He’s probably doing more to offset his carbon footprint than any of us here.
What have YOU done for the environment? Is your electricity generated by green energy? Do you walk and bike everywhere?
Good for him and may he like what he finds when he returns.
It is good what Leonardo is trying to do. However, the electricity required to run his car must come form somewhere and if it is coming from a coal-fired electricity plant, the advantage of running an electric car is not as great as if the electricity came from solar panels.
Ooooor maybe the solar panels on his roof.
Hint these liberal celebrities are the ones who are in favor of paying more taxes on there millions of dollars of income and think the bush tax cuts are a waste of money. They are advocating for higher taxes for millionaires and billionaires so the US can subsidize buying solar panels and geothermal for your house. Pay attention,
“A normal person does not drive more than 50 kilometres (31 miles) a day.”
I must not be normal. I drive well over 31 miles per day so I can support my family. Leo is simply out of touch.
Saving the world: less stressful than acting.
Fly around in your jet? Like you did to do that photo shoot in Iceland for the Vanity Fair cover when they photoshopped in the baby polar bear and could have saved all that pollution photoshopping in you too. You are a black-tie environmentalist, you show up for awards and say platitudes and spout the most basic statistics. In the years prior to being named spokesperson for Earth Day 2000 you used to drive around L.A. in big, black SUV … and acting for a few weeks each picture for millions of dollars a pop is too strenuous? Wow, you ARE lazy.
Yeah, right. I bet we’ll be seeing him (but not realizing it) in a lot of government crisis acts. Actors make the best agents.
He’s never been my favorite actor, but I applaud him trying to make a difference. Climate Change is THE issue of our generation and let’s face it, celebs can bring attention to it in a way others can’t. Yeah, it’s a little self-righteous, but Mother Earth is knee deep in shit at this point.
so you take his intention and flip it upside down. srsly, what do you suggest? that he run, walk, maybe even skateboard across the world? maybe you should show him how to save the environment and never fly as well. oh wait you arent. so keep your mouth..shut? thanks
Good riddance, One Twick Pony
