TNT has cancelled Leverage but the show might not be dead after all says Dean Devlin. “We’re going to try to shop it around now and see if there is any other interest elsewhere,” the executive producer told Deadline today. That elsewhere could include a feature film version of the drama. “That would be fun to do. That’s definitely a possibility,” said Devlin, who is scheduled to make his own feature directorial debut with a global disaster film written by himself and Paul Guyot. “Look, it’s a long shot but we have a lot of love for the show and the fans have been tremendously supportive. If we can find a way for it to continue we’ll pursue,” he added of Leverage’s future. Produced by Devlin’s Electric Entertainment, the Timothy Hutton-led ensemble was formally cancelled by TNT after five seasons on December 21. The series finale aired four days later on
December 25. Two weeks earlier Devlin had told a fan site for the show that he and co-creator John Rogers would be wrapping things up for season five in the anticipation there might not be a season six. Not that the producer and Independence Day co-writer is out of Leverage ideas. “I have a giant pile of stories we still wanted to tell. Creatively the show was far from exhausted.” Devlin says of the drama. The show’s fans weren’t exhausted either. Leverage was voted the favorite TV cable drama at this year’s People’s Choice Awards, the first cancelled show to ever win. “One of the great things about this show is that it was produced independently so we can control its destiny to some degree. So, if we don’t survive as a TV series, who knows? We’ve already started a series of books so maybe there’s a movie down the line. Maybe an Internet series, comic books, I don’t know. We’re wide open to all ideas,” Devlin says.

If it won’t get picked up for more episodes on a tv network I would love a movie or it becoming a webseries. This is one of my favorite shows and I am so sad to see it go. It is such an amazing, creative, fun, show that is much better than most crap on tv today.
I have been waiting for Leverage to return. Now I am disappointed that it will not return.
maybe you should get rid of the boring realty shows, and replace them with interesting shows.
I agree reality shows basically suck. They’re not even “reality” shows, because these people know they’re on camera. Real reality would be them not knowing. Leverage opened our eyes to things we didn’t even think about that go on all around us and affect us directly.
Amen..bring back Leverage. Great fun group of people on the
This program. So much fun and action!
If it’s a feature, it’ll bomb. Crater even. However, I would love to see it comeback as a series of movies on TNT, focusing on the characters the way they left them. That would be fantastic.
I agree. A television movie is more realistic. Or a series of movies like “The Librarian”.
You are so right! You are brilliant! A movie that has yet to be made will definitely bomb! Nobody will watch movies about a group of people who band together to help others, and use clever technological and social engineering tricks to get there.
Absolutely right. It will never fly. You’re a genius.
Oceans Eleven
Oceans Twelve
Oceans Thirteen
The Hunger Games
The Fabulous Four
The Avengers
Every James Bond movie ever
Yeah so pretty much just roll over and die.
The rest of us will enjoy the Leverage Movie and its sequel and its sequel.
M
Listen, fanboy. You don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know what that Fabulous Four is but every other movie you mentioned came from popular source material. You’re really using the Avengers in your little analogy? You obviously don’t understand the industry. I’m not going to roll over and die because guys like you are clueless. Rather, I’ll stick around and watch you end up eating crow.
Oh, and Sue-purb? Librarian was exactly what I was thinking.
Yes, the Leverage movie will be HUGE!!!
Timothy Hutton is a bigger draw than George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Daniel Craig, Robert Downey Jr., COMBINED!
People will line up for blocks to see it, and willingly pay 15 dollars (or 30 if they’re on a date) for an awesome cinematic experience.
And the marketing campaign to get the word out will be 25 million plus.
They’ve keyed into a foolproof concept that will always draw big– a group of people helping people. Like the A-Team.
Make it happen, Dean and M!
What in the world have you been smoking? I loved the show, but to say that T. Hutton is a bigger draw than Clooney, Pitt, Craig and RDJ is asinine and laughable.
@Mark I watched EVERY episode of Leverage, from the first to the last and I kinda have to agree with Crazy 8. I don’t think a Feature film would do well, but a series of films like The Librarian movies (which are awesome) would be phenomenal. I think they’d do well with fans and the general public. I love the series but I’m not sure a feature film would do well right out the gate.
A web series would be a great idea also. I’d watch that daily and, I’m not in the entertainment film (other than watching tv and movies) but aren’t web-series’ cheaper to make? I
I don’t have any time to watch a web series.
Anything that would have the show to return would be GREAT. I hate reailty tv won’t watch it, well with the exception of Tia and Tamera. Please bring Leverage Back, I’m watching the reruns right now, (I tape all of my favorite tv shows. Just in case something like this happens, shows being cancelled.
Dean, just tell us what you want us to do. Blitz NBC, ABC, CBS? Concentrate on DVD distributors. Ask it, and we will do it. Oregon needs you. Everyone needs Leverage.
Yes, please! What can we do, preferably to get it back as a series? This is too good to go down like this!
I agree, a feature film would not be the best option, because they’d have to spend too much time filling in the back story, and people who didn’t already love the characters probably wouldn’t go see it.
Do, please, tell us what we can do to get someone else to pick up the series. I guess a Librarian-type series would be the next best thing, but I’m not sure you can go from a cancelled television shows to a successful feature film, and if a film bombs, nobody would touch the property again.
I agree wholeheartedly, Lori and Leslie! Dean, Timothy, Gina, Aldis, Christian and Beth . . . Tell us HOW we can help get you back. We’ll do it!
Yes, that’s what I want to hear, what can we as fans do to help with the return, I’ll do it. I’m in pain 24/7 and I don’t sleep and what I do is put my little rerun tapes in and the show relaxes me and make me smile, but I need some new cons to watch, like the character Parker, said in one eposide, leaving a job unfinished it’slike having to scratch an itch-S1-The first david eposide. The Leverage Fans are not full, trust me!
How dare they cancell leverage???? whats wrong with u??? it was like the best show ever thats just wrong and stupid
We fans will do what ever we can to show our continued love and support for Leverage, the show , cast and crew. We really want more and are prepared to help out to get more if we can.
.
Would be a great feature film. Love it as a series. Just want it to continue. Thanks for the 5 seasons. Just tell the fans what you need us to do and we will do it.
Yup, a middling series on a marginal netlette should be boffo at the b.o.
Sadly, I have to agree. That’s why we need it back as a great television show.
Dean, you tell us who you want us to “pimp” the show to & we will, as always, go above and beyond! Leverage was more than a show to a lot of us… The Cast has become more like family and we fight for family! Kaniacs, Grifters, Hackers, Theifs & of course the Masterminds stand united to Save Our Show!
I would love to see Leverage come back. I will watch it no matter what!! I’d rather see it every week than just for two hours but I will take what I can get!
“a series of movies on TNT”
beautiful music to my ears!
I’d be interested in seeing more Leverage, whether it be as a continued TV series, a movie, a web series, comics, more books. I’d love to see another network pick up the series, but a movie or web series would rock.
That was the most creative TV writing of our time, with the best ensemble cast ever. I miss it. Hopefully someone will pick up the series.
Amen to that.
sadman: You haven’t watched much television then. I mean, let’s not exaggerate. Leverage was an enjoyable show (most of the time), but the best? Uh….no.
A movie would be awesome. And I’ll will actually attend it … in a theater … at least 10 times. (Last show I did that for was Serenity, the movie sequel to Firefly.) Last movie I’ve seen recently in a theater was Skyfall.
But … if you control this “property” to a degree, then find a way to put out the season 5 DVDs. Lots of people are clamoring for a boxed set (and that would be great), but at least allow your extremely loyal fans who have bought all the previous DVDs a final season. Downloading is fine, but sometimes a DVD is better. And it’s no secret you’ve already prepared the extras and the commentaries, which you guys have done like no other series I’ve ever heard of.
I’d appreciate it. And thank you, John Rogers, Chris Downey and all the talented writers for the best five years of any single TV show I’ve ever seen.
My thoughts exactly Talea – I have all the DVD’s so far and am looking forward to Season 5. And Sue_Purb, you ARE a genius a series of movies like the Librarian would be STELLAR! And I’m with Lori Lamb and Karen Johnstone – Just let us know who to start emailing, what petitions to sign. You name it. We need more Leverage. Wish we had the team “for-reals” so we could take down the brain-dead TNT execs responsible for cancelling the show.
This is an excellent show. Not a lot of cussing, no nudity, great plot, excellent character development, cohesiveness and family friendly. Some network must pick this show up. I genuinely love all the characters, Sterling too.
I agree with what just about everyone is saying. Talk about being screwed without a kiss!!! What a stupid mistake, TNT. I will not watch reality Tv; and, now that my favorite show has been cancelled, I shall just continue to watch every rerun that airs. I think another network should pick up the series and teach TNT a lesson!
We need more Leverage! Preferably more episodes, but I’ll take it however I can get it. There are still a lot of stories to tell, and we want them!!!
The “Grifters” are hard workers when fighting for Leverage! We just need your direction, Dean! What should we do to keep Leverage?
I hope so I love Leverage and never, never miss an epsiode Leverage was the only reason I watch TNT. I hope
you would do two or three moive of Leverage we all love Timothy, Christian, Aldis, Gina, and Beth and want them back!!!!
I Love Leverage and never, never, miss an episode, Leverage was the only reason I watch TNT. We all want Leverage back.
Tell us what you need us to do — Kaniacs are at your disposal!! Still want S5 on dvd too!
Webisodes would be awesome! A movie would have to have a super-special storyline to last 2 hours.
Why not continue new episodes on the Broadcast Network ION Television where its repeats had recently been airing in mini-marathons.
For me, I’ll more likely to watch Tim Hutton and the rest of the cast before I watch anything with Pitt, Craig and Clooney. I’m very loyal and Leverage deserves my loyality. But Dean if and when you bring it back Man-up Hardison, it’s not attractive having your woman save you in a fight! Oh and for the person suggesting that ION take over, I do believe they only commit to reruns, that’s what I was told.
Well firefly became a movie(serenity) So why not Leverage? Even if it gets made into a movie we would still love more episodes.
I sure hope that happens ‘cos, unlike what’s-her-name, I’m NOT ready to say goodbye to these characters!
Oh yeah i saw that TV series Heist. Leverage was like a direct rip off of that show. But Heist had better stories, better acting , and way better music. If you watch that show you’ll see where Leverage stole half their shit from. I wish they would bring back Heist. Leverage was a dog in the toilet.
LETS GO STEAL A BRITISH TV SHOW!
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Heist was only on TV for 7 episodes so I have no idea where you get the thought that Leverage stole anything from them. Heist didnt even make it for one full season perhaps if they had better stories, better acting and way better music Heist would have lasted at least one full season.
This is the best news I’ve heard yet. I know it says possibly and maybe and could (not really committing to anything) but just knowing that it could happen – how awesome! And I’ve already began collecting the books (only one since it’s the only one out as of now), but I can’t wait for the others!
Anyway, in any way, shape, or form it comes in, more Leverage is always welcome!
