When volunteers dressed as Darth Vader and his Storm Troopers helped build a house on an Extreme Makeover: Home Edition special a month after Disney‘s acquisition of Lucasfilm was announced, the Mouse House dismissed the corporate synergy as a coincidence as the ABC special had been filmed a year prior. But that cannot be said about tonight’s episode of ABC’s fairytale drama Once Upon A Time, which featured the Star Wars music theme. Incorporating Star Wars into the show is tricky as it takes place almost exlusively in fairytale world — past and present. But the first chance the producers had to introduce Star Wars since the Lucasfilm acquisition — when a guy from Pennsylvania drives into fairytale Storybrooke — they took it: When the stranger’s cell phone rang, its ringtone was the Star Wars theme. The homage shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Once Upon A Time creators Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are self-professed “massive Star Wars fans.” As for Darth Vader and company making an appearance on Once, it is not that far-fetched following tonight’s episode which established that characters from worlds other than fairytale land (like Dr. Frankenstein) can find their way into Storybrooke. Maybe that includes a galaxy far, far away…
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

I had this ridiculous idea when Henry said something about characters from different stories coming to Storybrook (ex. Dr. Frankenstein) that some Star Wars-ish character would appear. I know it will never happen, but it sounded cool. Unless it was Jar-Jar Binks. Then I would just be dumb. Lmao.
But what if they kill Jar Jar Banks then it would be okay right? Because I know I would definitely watch that episode!
Binks darn you autocorrect
Jar-Jar, Dr. Frankenstein, same difference..
Given that these geeks used to jerk off to all things Jedi, is this a surprise?
Star Wars is one of those things I consider a “Modern Fairytale / Myth”, Superman being the best example of this.
I’m not sure a Star Wars ringtone is a big deal. The special ringtone on my cell for my ex-wife is the “Imperial March.”
A ringtone in an episode of a TV show qualifies as “corporate synergy”, and is deemed worthy of an article and a headline?
A ringtone?
Seriously?
Did any one notice that right before the starwars theme played on his phone that the room they walked into was room number: R242… And D is the 4th letter of the alphabet so the room is esentialy alluding to R2D2!!!! I see a new character coming!, maybe not R2, but definitely starwars!!!
They are all Star Wars geeks that is the reason why it was used. I doubt Star Wars characters will show up in Story Brooke.
We have to move faster and do more with Star Wars it’s taking us too long to fully integrate that very expensive galaxy into all our other properties. We paid a fortune for those rights and I want Star Wars characters in everything we produce and on every piece of merchandise we sell. Get moving damn it or I will return to my old office and start kicking your lazy butts to a galaxy far far away.
They already established that characters don’t have to be from “traditional” fairy tales in the first season when they introduced Alice in Wonderland characters. That’s a story written by a known author, not derived from oral tradition, like Frankenstein. Or Star Wars for that matter.
No one can do synergy better than Disney, this is just another example, small but still an example, they didn’t waste any time integrating Disney into ABC when they bought it, or Pixar, or Marvel, or even Club Penguin from Canada.
No one does it better than Disney
wow, this is much ado about nothing. Songs are used in TV shows all the time. Presumably the showrunners love a lot of the music in their shows. Why is this news again?
When Disney goes back to “The Love Bug” and digitally changes it into a land speeder, we’ll know the assimilation is complete. Or when they green light a comedy called “That Darn Death Star.”
How about that Star Wars live-action TV show? We could get another Holiday Special.
Here is what you are all missing. The Star Wars saga has been adopted by an entire new generation, many of whom have never even seen the films. My 8 year old son was introduced to Star Wars through Lego and Angry Birds, and only recently were we able to finally persuade him to sit down and watch the original film. Earlier this month we visited Legoland, and he spent over an hour at the Star Wars display (I hope Legoland’s rights to this attraction are not adversely impacted by the Disney deal). My son’s interest in the characters and the storylines grow every day. And the same is true of his friends. Disney got this exactly right.
I wonder if this means that Disney is going to buy Volkswagon now?
