Washington DC police won’t be arresting or charging NBC‘s Meet The Press host David Gregory for displaying what he said was a high-capacity ammunition clip on national TV in December while interviewing National Rifle Association chief executive Wayne LaPierre. In the District of Columbia possession of a gun magazine capable of holding 10 or more rounds of ammunition, even if empty, is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Although the device Gregory held in front of the camera “meets the definition” of the law, DC Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan wrote to NBC that prosecution “would not promote public safety in the District of Columbia nor serve the best interests of the people of the District to whom this office owes its trust.” Nathan announced his decision today, the Washington Post reported. Some gun advocates have said not charging Gregory with a crime would be hypocritical, selective enforcement of the law. As of today the Post said more than 18,000 people had signed a White House petition calling on Gregory to be charged. People on the other side of the debate suggest that prosecuting Gregory would be a waste of resources that would be better spent on curtailing real violence.

Figures. Wayne LaPierre was sitting there, observing the law, making sound arguments about the need for increased safety measures at public schools. As meanwhile David Gregory sat there, mocking LaPierre’s argument and demanding new gun laws….while simultaneously Gregory was violating an existing gun law! But naturally Gregory will slide for this. He isn’t the target of gun enforcement efforts, in this administration where Holder and his ilk run illegal guns to Mexico, guns that are later used to murder American law enforcement officers. No, the targets now and always are law-abiding citizens who want simply to exercise their 2nd amendment rights.
Holder and his ilk? What exactly do you mean by “ilk”? African-Americans like me? Would you be saying the same things if Holder was white? I notice you didn’t say anything about the gunwalking program started under GW Bush, a white man.
good lord, not everything is coded racism. Get over yourself.
The Bush gun program differed in 2 key respects: 1. they actually tracked the guns and 2. they told the Mexican government about the program. Obama/Holder let the guns go without any attempt to track, and didn’t tell Mexico they were doing it. 300+ dead Mexicans later, the secret was out.
So yeah, kind of different.
You guys can have all the muskets you want.
Right, because modern firearms aren’t covered by the 2nd amendment since they didn’t exist when it was written. The same way nothing on the internet is protected by free speech, and none of your electronic documents are protected by the 4th amendment. That’s a very sound and logical argument you’ve got there.
thats why the 2nd said arms and not muskets!don’t you think our founders thought that technology may advance one day?people like you are totally ignorant!
Gregory dodged the bullet even though his clip was empty;)
Had NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre held up that 30 round magazine for display, he’d have been immediately arrested, would still be in jail, and WOULD BE facing a one year prison sentence and a $1000 fine.
Washington, DC Attorney General Irvin B. Nathan and Washington DC Police WOULD THEN BOTH be SCREAMING how LaPierre’s arrest and prosecution MUST BE sought “… to promote public safety in the District of Columbia and serve the best interests of the people of the District to whom this office owes its trust!”
F**king lying, selective law-enforcement, hypocrite, sacks-of-sh**!!
Let’s just say folks Gregory got lucky and didn’t serve jail time as a result…he knows now he does this again, off to prison he goes.
Bummer. The live shots from jail would have been priceless. (no pun intended)
Wow, who opened the crazy door…?
Supporter of stricter gun control, but I really think Gregory should have been charged. He broke the law.
I cant seem to understand this. Did this individual break the law?
If he did, why is he not being charged?
I am sure Nathan got a call from Holder… right after he had Gregory Fedex him that mag so he could ship it to Mexico. Put a tent over that circus.
He’s still going to be prosecuted for his awful hair, right?
