President Barack Obama’s team used cable TV to outmaneuver Mitt Romney’s campaign in the final days before the election, according to a Reuters analysis. With polls showing a tight race, Obama’s campaign exploited cable TV’s diverse lineup to target women on channels such as Food Network and Lifetime and men on networks such as ESPN. Obama’s team used the fragmentation of cable TV’s audience to target tailored messages to voters in battleground states. Romney’s campaign relied on a more traditional mass saturation of broadcast TV. The Romney camp was entirely dark on cable TV for two of the campaign’s last seven days, according to the analysis. “We don’t know why. This was a week before the election and you’re in the fight for your life,” said Timothy Kay, political director for cable industry consortium NCC Media.

Obama ran a great campaign because he is a professional campaigner. (as opposed to governing, leading, etc.) But his biggest advantage was having the largest political action committee in his pocket: the media. He is their progressive god and they’ll do absolutely ANYTHING to protect him.
So sad, so true.
I know this is pretty hard to understand – but this is easily your most accomplished, effective president in half a century – he’s going to go down in the history books for solving healthcare, immigration (the GOP *will* do it this time – or they’re dead with latinos and they never get the white house ever again), what else… killing osama bin laden under his watch on a goal he made a top priority where he made the call to go in for the kill, knowing that if it went wrong, it was the end of his presidency, reforming the military in partnership with robert gates, fundamentally shifting the american viewpoint on wealth hoarding and inequality, and also, while we’re at it, being the first black president with a middle name of hussein.
He is a president for the ages. You were incredibly, incredibly lucky you got him.
when he finishes up the second term, Ireland would like him next please.
I was lucky enough to visit Dublin in 2010 and 2011, what a great city and group of people the Irish are. We will be glad to loan you President Obama after he’s finished cleaning up the mess left by George W. Bush and his right-wing, neocon GOP cronies. But only loan! We’ll need him back!
The only thing Obama will be remembered for is being the first President to “fine” his own citizens (with Obamacare) for not carrying a private sector service (his form of health care insurance).
There has never been a President to impose such a thing to a unwilling public. Hence the countless lawsuits against Obamacare.
No, this will be his defining moment. Obamacare remains unpopular in every major poll and more Senators/House Reps. are been elected (2010 and onward) just campaigning against Obamacare alone.
All else you mentioned isn’t even discussed, and won’t be remembered. Obama took us down a really divisive road thru health care.
It truly heartwarming to see yet another idiot rightwinger sputtering angrily without a clue.
What a delusional comment!
I’m sick and tired of this myth that the media gives Obama a pass. Did you actually watch any of the Republican debates? Fox News? Joe Scarborough on MSNBC? Wolf Blitzer? John King?
If anything, the media is not tough enough on ANY candidate. Especially Republicans.
You just proved his point No one really pays attention to John Scar, Wolf, or John K. They’re smaller venues. The MAJOR venues all gave Obama a huge pass and it was pretty obvious.
Just look like at the Benghazi incident. It’s been months, we hardly know anything since the vast majority of Media wouldn’t even cover it. It Bush was still President, it would have been front page, lead story, for months.
“It Bush was still President, it would have been front page for months.”
Are you referring to George W. Bush who got away with lying about WMD’s and got us until a needless war, while being aided & abetted by the entire media conglomeration? Thanks for proving MY point that the Media gives every politician a pass, ESPECIALLY Republicans.
Fox News is the most watch cable news network and they hate Obama, CNN is not on the democratic side either, you just have to watch the coverage after the last two debated to see that.
Also, he is far from being a real progressive, he was the better choice of two, nothing more.
CNN and Fox is NOT the majority of the Press. All of you are forgetting ABC, NBC, CBS, NPR, and countless major Newspapers. None of which were ever hard on Obama (and remain so).
Its true, Cable news outlets actually “try” to be journalists in the age of Obama. But they’re also vastly outnumbered by the rest of the broadcast networks and Newspaper outlets.
The original poster’s right. I’ve never seen such a lack of Presidential coverage. I told my friend just yesterday we should dump the White House Press Corp to save money. They’re not asking any hard questions (outside of Cable ones sometimes) and are useless to the American public.
It was also, that he had PEOPLE on the ground in the neighborhoods, one report said he had 3,000 people in neighborhoods where as Romney had 500, he kept is orginaziation going after the last election. ABC news had a segment showing workers with I pads going into areas and they knew which were democrats, independents and focused on them.
For all the money spent on the Romney campaign they ran a very very pathetic campaign, and with Romney putting his foot in his mouth every other day, acting all high and mighty, well, he lost. Obama took a page out of the Clinton handbook on elections; get down with the common man, “I feel your pain”. Whereas when Romney was asked if 14% was a good tax rate for him to pay he said yes.
It worked and worked well, it had nothing to do with the media nothing to do with FOX or MSNBC and everything to do with Romney himself.
It turned out just great.
The fact that the media was completely in his thrall didn’t hurt either.
Obama got drug across the finish line by Bill Clinton and a hurricane. Ads on TV didn’t get him any votes that were not going to him anyway.
And yes, owning 99% of the media is the kicker. Obama should have won by much more than he did.
Wow, Obama owns 99% of the media? I’m sure the FCC would like to know that. Maybe you can e-mail them?
You say that Obama should have won by much more, with a crappy economy against a white Republican with much more money and the Fox News machine? Uh, just keep telling yourself whatever it takes to get you through the day.
