• He was very good today with the nominations. Most of this videos aren’t funny but the “ask your kids” one was very amusing. I think he’ll do a good job.

• Annoying and far too impressed with himself. He will do nothing to bring in a younger demographic to an ossified, uninteresting awards show for a product that most 18-25 year olds care nothing about — Lincoln, Silver Linings Playbook, Les Miserables…? And the old fogies won’t know who he is or care. Dumb choice. Count me out.

• Plenty of people are funnier than this guy, but nowhere near as inexplicably popular. Billy Crystal’s tired shtick guaranteed a change was coming and this is it. My guess is he’ll have better material and therefore pull this off, but Ricky Gervais was the right man for this job.

• Kevin Spacey would be a decent host. He can sing, he’s a pretty good impressionist, he’s inside to the degree that Hollywood won’t be turned off by his snark, but also sarcastic enough that he won’t turn into a sycophant. Spacey is also at a point in his career that he isn’t whoring for Oscars anymore.
