The studio announced a slew of release schedule additions and alterations today. Among the films getting new wide dates are Pirates Of The Caribbean 5, which is set for July 10, 2015; The Muppets 2, which will bow March 21, 2014; and the shrouded-in-secrecy Damon Lindelof-Brad Bird film 1952, starring George Clooney, now set for December 19, 2014 in 3D.
In addition, Disney has moved its Angelina Jolie-starrer Maleficent to July 2, 2014, shifting the 3D revisionist fairy tale from March 14, 2014 and squarely into the summer fray. Two other pics that already had dates are now getting the 3D treatment: Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014) and Guardians Of The Galaxy (August 1, 2014).
The Little Mermaid, which was to be the latest from the Disney vaults to get a 3D rerelease (like The Lion King, Finding Nemo and the recent Monsters, Inc.), has been taken off the schedule. It had been slated for September 13, 2013.

Why did they take the Little Mermaid off the schedule!
My guess is that they do not consider it financially viable, since the 3-D releases of both Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. had disappointing grosses.
But I guess they didn’t look at the re-release “The Lion King” of 2011? Simba and friends made so much money for a re-release. Personally, it seems like Disney’s 2-D animation had better longevity then its Pixar counterparts.
Damn it! I was looking forward to seeing sea shells in 3D!
The “Pirates 5″ announcement must confirm that Disney doesn’t think they can have “Star Wars 7″ out in time by summer of 2015 Becuase I was pretty damn sure that would be dated for July 2015 since the avengers sequal is coming out in may. And even though these Star Wars movies typically come out during In May, I don’t think Diney would be stupid enough two release two movies that big (The Avengers 2 and Star Wars 7) in the same month of may 2015.
But who knows, 2015 is suppose to be the biggest year for movies since 1939 yet “The Justice League”, “Avatar 2″ , and “Star Wars 7″ have yet to actually be dated yet. So I don’t know what on earth Hollywood is doing.
Please tell us more, ol’ Oracle of Hollywood.
Are voices of studio executives supposed to speak in your head?
They’ll do the announcements when they’re damn ready to announce ‘em.
Try stopping to second guess them.

Jackass – Curbcooler’s post is as rational as you get on this site. No way Disney is releasing SW and Avengers 2 is the same month.
Was really looking forward to the Little Mermaid 3D release. A shame it now looks to be canceled.
I hope Disney doesn’t use the non-performance of Monsters Inc 3D as reason to drop plans for Mermaid. Had Disney actually promoted, screened, and cared for the Monsters Inc. release, perhaps audiences would’ve shown up.
Audiences are done with the 3-D re-release gimmick. NEMO underperformed also, and Disney has wisely figured that out.
I appreciate the fact that there options in theaters than there may be months to actually view the movies. It’s a good to know for our viewing pleasure we’ll be kept busy. I remember the “Little Mermaid” from when I was just a little guy. It’s kind of cool hearing that its gonna be shown on theaters again.
I was so looking forward to seeing The Little Mermaid in 3D. There is a difference between seeing a CGI movie from just a few years ago re-released in 3D (the Pixar re-releases) and seeing a 2D movie from more than a decade re-released in a 3rd dimension. The novelty of The Lion King 3D just wasn’t there for Nemo and Monsters – there never seemed to be much of a difference between their original releases. Bummer to hear that Ariel won’t be back anytime soon.
What? No news about that other Disney property? You know, Star Wars? Considering it has something to do with Zack Snyder?
Very surprised that Star Wars hasn’t been dated yet.
Star Wars will be pushed to 2016 or 2017 they are not going to rush it just to make a release date they will take their time to do it right.
Star Wars will be released in 2015…
Do people really think that a company like Disney would make a $4 Billion investment and then not look to maximise their returns as quickly as possible?
Marvel is now pumping out 2 movies a year and will soon have a big tv show.
Pixar will soon be pumping out 2 movies a year.
Lucasfilm will be tasked with making a big movie every 1-2 years be it Star Wars, Idiana Jones or another property.
Disney are not just brilliant story tellers but they have an amazing Buisness sense and are focused on boosting an already very profitable company.
POTC 5 *________* I can’t wait…………..
