In its first year without Dick Clark, ABC’s Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest (4.1/14 in adults 18-49, 13.3 million viewers) did solid business, boosted by a Dick Clark special that opened the night from 8-10 PM with 2.6/9 in 18-49 and 9.4 million total viewers. ABC towered over the competition — NBC’s New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly (1.1/4, 3.8 million) from 10-11 PM, Fox’s Mob Doctor and specials/repeats — posting its best New Year’s Eve primetime numbers in 12 years. This was New Year’s Rockin’ Eve‘s largest audience ever on ABC, where the special premiered in 2000. Carson Daly still posted 22% gains in 18-49 vs. last year. In late night, Carson Daly (4.9 rating/11 share in metered-market households from 11:30 PM-12:30 AM) was up 14% versus last year to a three-year high. ABC’s Rockin’ Eve still ruled the roost with a 10.6/25 from 11:30 PM-1:15 AM. Fox’s New Year’s Eve Live posted a 2.8/6 from 11 PM-12:30 AM.
Elsewhere in primetime, an original of Fox’s Mob Doctor (0.4/1) was down 50% from its most recent outing. The CW did decent business with the iHeartRadio Music Festival special (0.5/2).

Ryan Who???? It was all about Kathy and Anderson last night. Everyone is asking what Kathy will do next year, not what Ryan Who??? is doing.
Kathy was extremely inappropriate just for the sake of comedy… I am not asking what Kathy will do next year!
That FOX special last night was one of the worst NYE’s programs I ever saw…so poorly written, poorly executed and just flat out a waste of 90 minutes of airtime and yet, FOX wants to compete in the late night wars? Good luck to them on that one.
What was ABC doing that gave it such an edge over NBC? Seacrest and Daly are interchangeable Ken dolls, so it can’t be the hosts.
Bring back Guy Lombardo.
Personally, every year, I tune in at approximately 11:50pm to “Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” (and I won’t complete the title “with . . . ” as the name that follows is of no consequence whatsoever) merely to watch the ball drop as the ultimate American symbol to usher in the new year.
After the ball drops, that’s it . . . I change the channel or just shut off the television and party on.
I find those numbers really hard to believe. I tuned in to Seacrest, only in the last 45 minutes to catch the best of American Bandstand clips (The Jackson 5, Donna Summer, and Madonna). And as soon as the show cut back to Seacrest or McCarthy, I turned right back to Anderson and Kathy. Oh, and did anyone notice how taken Fergie was with herself as a host? It was disturbing they way she was flirting with the camera.
