I am so excited for this. Robin Williams is brilliant and Montiel + drama is a win! Is this based on a book?
Looking forward to this. The script was great and Robin’s a terrific choice.
Gotta say, I love it when stars challenge themselves. Cool move. Looking forward to this.
Montiel’s only good movie was “A Guide to Recognizing your Saints” and at this point I’m thinking it was beginners luck.. HIs last three movies (third one not released yet but is unwatchable) have been such complete crap. It’s amazing he gets the actors he does as it turns out to be such a collosal waste of acting talent. Quite a head scratcher. I hear he is one of the nicest guys directing these days, but still, this isn’t a popularity contest last time I checked. I am still waiting for him to do something as amazing as “Saints”. Let’s hope he does.
So true about Montiel. He had a knockout debut in “Saints” and his last 2 films were unbearable; “The Son Of No One” was ambitious but a misfire. Don’t know about Empire but he must still have some good reps to keep getting the gigs. He obviously has shown he has talent, but odd that in a B.O biz he’s still working steadily. Well, maybe this one will get him back on track.
Forget B.O. in show business, it’s all about who’s well-liked. If you’re in the right circles, they’ll throw zillions at you to make more movies even if they tank.
I still don’t understand the attacks on “the Son Of No One” Who has seen it? I did and it was incredible. Fighting was a bit of a surprise choice after his first excellent film but I would blame Montiels reps on that. And if you get he chance it is some of both Channing Tatum and Terence Howards best work. And yes, (in regards to the previous comment) in a business built on B.O. it’s actually REFRESHING that some directors continue to remain artists. And this includes Robin WIlliams!
you obviously havent seen the movie since Terence Howard isnt in it! He was originally cast and was replaced by Tracy Morgan.
Applause to FX! Yes, i too saw SON OF NO ONE and scratched my head at the negative reviews i’d read. Mind you, I have yet to meet REAL people who had negative things to say. It hit me in all the same places A Guide did and this director can squeeze performances out of anyone it seems. He’s an incredibly gifted auteur who fortunately for his fans and unfortunately for this wretched time in filmmaking still writes about people on the fringes of life as opposed to say the ‘This Is 40′ crowd? I have not seen Fighting so I can not comment on it but A Guide and Son of No One were breathtaking. I hope Hollywood continues to believe people out here enjoy films not made for the 2 percent!
Dito’s an amazing talent. This looks very interesting.
Dito is the man he has survived the streets and came out on top ! Not a lot of has and his childhood friends can tell you the same ! Way to go my man .! I can’t wait to see you in May
