EXCLUSIVE: Battlestar Galactica developer/executive producer Ron Moore is returning to Syfy‘s primetime. I hear the cable network is finalizing deals for a 13-episode straight-to-series order to Helix, a dark thriller from Moore. Syfy had been exploring straight-to-series orders in lieu of traditional pilots, and Helix would be part of that strategy.

Helix, from Sony Pictures TV, where Moore is under an overall deal, is about a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility who find themselves trying to protect the world from annihilation. The project, which eyes a debut later this year, was written on spec by Cameron Porsandeh who serves as co-executive producer. Moore and Lynda Obst (Hot In Cleveland) executive produce. In addition to hit Battlestar Galactica, Moore also co-created and executive produced Syfy’s prequel series Caprica.

when is Rewind going to air?
OMG how bad was the stupid reality show in the DARK last night
who cares if people are screaming and walking on egg shells?
No real danger and woman screaming is so 10 years ago
Face Off works- they need more creative competition shows like this
NOT HOT SET – that never had a shot
Nice to see Ron Moore back at home at SyFy.
So it is basically ‘The Thing’ TV show? There was also an X-Files season one episode that had something similar.
Well, you could have made the same comment about BG and we know how that turned out!
I will definitely watch this. Ron Moore is one of the most underappreciated TV writers of all-time. BSG is one of the best TV shows I have ever seen. Please Syfy pick this up!
After seeing finale of BSG, I expect the ending of this new series to be someone sneezing which causes the disease/virus/alien to die, thus saving the world. Seriously, after seeing the hack ending of BSG, it wasn’t much better than the horrible overused Christmas Carol/Wizard of Oz/It’s A Wondeful Life episodes in various shows.
The premise sounds like one we’ve heard before, but I have to believe this is character driven so I hope it works.
Great news, but what about Alphas? It’s the best show Syfy’s had in ages and yet no news on season 3. :/
Alphas was just cancelled todsy
Smart to go for the 13 episode order. At least if SyFy cancels it (as they always do), people get 13 or more weeks of work out of it instead of 4 weeks on a pilot that gets passed on.
who reps Cameron?
It’ll most likely be back in the spring. And yes, it IS a fantastic series.
Sorry, Siffy. This won’t make up for the rubbish heap you’ve become.
SyFy should try a thirteen episode Riverworld series except do it right this time. Their two pilots were horrendous.
