The CW brass were hoping to keep Sarah Michelle Gellar into the fold after the cancellation of her drama series Ringer. But seems like the Buffy The Vampire Slayer alumna will be headed elsewhere. Gellar is attached to a comedy script set up at 20th Century Fox TV, as first reported by TVLine. I hear the untitled project, from up-and-coming writer Shepard Boucher (Men At Work), chronicles the hijinks of two moms, one played by Gellar, while their kids are at school. ICM Partners-repped Boucher wrote the project on spec. The agency, which also reps Gellar, showed it to the actress who liked it and came on board. In part because of Gellar’s relationship with 20th TV chairman Dana Walden going back to Gellar’s says on the studio’s drama Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the project was set up at 20th TV, which put in development. Studio-based writer-producer Dave Hemingson came on as showrunner and is supervising the rewrite, which is being done right now. The project will then be taken out, likely as part of the traditional January spec season. This is the second consecutive time that Geller has boarded a script by young writers following Ringer, created by Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder. She and Boucher are managed by Brillstein Entertainment whose Margaret Riley and JoAnne Colonna serves as exec producer alongside Hemingson and Gellar.

FOX is notorious for bailing on projects and SMG is notoriously awful behind the scenes. Buuut Buffy was great. Good luck!
SMG awful behind the scenes ?!!! I don’t think so…
You know nothing. She made ever day of RINGER a nightmare for all involved. Any show that’s constructed around the idea of how to get your lead actress shot out so she can go home is doomed. Here’s an idea — “If you don’t want to work, don’t play twins.”
What was clear with the ratings of Ringer was that SMG gets paid lots and lots of money for absolutly no reason. she can’t demand that type of cash after they cancelled the show thesedays.. she does very little for her fans aswell she won’t even get a twitter for any of her supporters and they have just clearly just given up and didn’t even bother to watch her shows or movies anymore.
Tell where abs when SMG was awful behind the scenes. Did you work with her or is this gossip
She’s a limited, unappealing actress. She was lucky to be cast in what became a cult success, but she doesn’t have much mainstream appeal. She comes across as cold, and has very limited range.
She was wonderful on Buffy, but that was 10 years ago. She needs to do a cool guest arc on a hit show, even if it just “Once Upon a Time” and rebuild her brand.
I totally agree. She’d also be smart to find a good ensemble show for herself instead of another starring vehicle (think Calista Flockhart following up Ally McBeal with Brothers & Sisters.)
M, agreed. Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn’t have the star power, nor the charisma, nor the acting range. That is why her film career bombed ( also the bad film choices) and her last television show was canceled. Sarah shined on Buffy The Vampire Slayer because of the strong ensemble and the clever writing. I would love to see Gellar join forces with Joss Whedon, but I hear she ” burned her bridges ” with Joss. It is funny how ( the previously underrated ) Alyson Hannigan is the only cast member from Buffy that is consistently working and having major success.
And Anthony Stewart Head on “Merlin”
Actually, I think Seth Green falls into that category, too.
Hmm. I wonder what keeping someone “into the fold” means. I know what keeping someone “IN the fold” means. Perhaps it’s the same thing…
I like Sarah, but,I also think some type of guestspot/arc on some hit show would help her out. I enjoyed her on BTVS,but, that was so long ago. I think some type of guestspot/arc on an already existing show might help introduce her to fans who don’t know her from her “Buffy” days. Some type of different approach is needed with Sarah. After Buffy ended, her so-called movie career didn’t exactly take off. Ringer was canceled after its’ debut season. She just needs to find the right role & I’m not sure this comedy on Fox is it,but, I wish her only the best with the attempt. Here’s hoping.
I’m huge fan of hers and hoped her movie career would fare better. It’s nice she’s coming back to television. Hope this show’s gonna be picked up by some network and then goes straight to series.
She should have a guestspot on The Big Bang Theory. It’ll allow her to develop her comedy acting (she obviously wants her own sitcom). If that doesn’t make her a hot commodity again, nothing will.
Isnt this the same studio that fired her from 1600 Penn table read for not being funny?
It was Brittany Snow. And SMG does not take supporting roles. She’s a star and is interested only in leading roles.
She’s on CW. if she was a star, she’d at least be on FX.
Shep is a great writer and person and an amazing animator as well.
She should heat star on how I met your mother as the mother!!
It’s a little OT, but I think she should be the mom on HIMYM. That show is stocked with BTVS alumnus and it would be a good payoff.
I think you’re confusing her with Brittany Snow
1) I wish someone would’ve picked up RINGER!
2) This sounds like “I hate my teenage daughter”
Solution: Sarah Michelle Gellar needs to have Joss Whedon write another show for her.
Joss Whedon is overrated.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That is the funniest thing I have read today. “Joss is overrated.” Priceless.
She is probably going to fall pregnant half way through filming but it is a show about moms so it probably won’t matter much. Personally I can’t think of a worse show than two fat pregnant moms sitting around waiting to pick the kids up from school. lol it will be another Ringer in a year anyway.
Well someone needs to bring in the paychecks for that household, as it’s pretty clear Freddie Jr. hasn’t heard from his agent since Bush was in office.
Good for her. I just hope it won’t end up at the CW and that the project won’t be as bad as Ringer was. Can’t wait to watch it.
Yea maybe she should do a guest spot in a hit show. I’m thinking American Horror Story wuld fit her just right!
She was actually a guest on Watch What Happens Live last year at the same time as Ryan Murphy and they talked about her doing that show. She was doing Ringer at the time and then she got pregnant, so I understand why she couldn’t do it this season, but that would be a much better idea than a sitcom for her.
It’s perplexing why her career went so far off the rails…during Buffy she really seemed to be on track with a great show and the right kind of film roles to boost her into the future. I agree with others that she should’ve dipped her toes back into the TV pool by doing guest starring roles on respected cable shows, or even on her old colleagues hits like Bones or How I Met Your Mother.
I believe this will be a great project for SMG. I’ve been a fan of her’s Gir many years and I never heard of SMG being difficult.
Wonder if SMG is pissed that her Cruel Intentions co-star Reese Witherspoon had a huge movie career, guested on F*R*I*E*N*D*S and won the coveted Oscar while SMG was stuck on TV. LOL.
