Following its criticism of Zero Dark Thirty as “grossly inaccurate” in a letter to Sony Pictures CEO Michael Lynton, the Senate Intelligence Committee is reviewing CIA records of contacts agency officials may have had with director Kathryn Bigelow and screenwriter Mark Boal, Reuters reported today. But the committee has no plans to interview the filmmakers. The CIA’s acting director Michael Morell also criticized the movie as “not a realistic portrayal of the facts” in a letter posted on the agency’s website. Senate panel investigators will attempt to determine whether the agency gave filmmakers “inappropriate” access to secret material and whether CIA personnel are responsible for the portrayal of “enhanced” interrogation practices in the movie about the capture and killing of Osama bin Laden. Bigelow and Boal have repeatedly denied being given any access to classified information. Sony said in a statement: “As the studio distributing Zero Dark Thirty in the United States, we are proud of this important film. Kathryn Bigelow, Mark Boal and their creative team have made an extraordinary motion picture and we fully support bringing this remarkable story to the screen.”
New ‘Man Of Steel’ Television Spot #6

Why so much controversy over a complete farce? Bin Laden died of Marfan Syndrome a long….long time ago. That’s been repeated by intelligence officers from all over the world….including the guy Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan was based on. This movie looks fantastic, but it is utter fiction. No such thing as bad publicity I suppose.
Yeah, right. So who was on the grassy knoll?
And 9/11 was an inside job, right? I just looked up Steve Pieczenik’s statements on it, and it’s safe to say that Jack Ryan, a fictional character, has more credibility at this point. The thing about conspiracy theorists is that no matter how much proof you show them, they have a safe out by saying “that’s what ‘they’ want you to believe.”
You can’t debate blind stupidity.
Their claim that the movie is inaccurate seems at odds with their suspicion that the filmmakers were given inappropriate access. Wouldn’t inside information have increased the movie’s veracity?
And besides, I’m not saying it’s not wrong if they were given said intel, but whatever happened happened. Doesn’t the senate have better things to worry about?
My thoughts exactly.
“Not realistic” but you’re doing a probe to see if the CIA supplied information? Okay…
“Now excuse me, I have to go home and finish the second season of Homeland,” said the Senate spokesman.
Correct. And this is all just more theatre to solidify the lie that is part of bigger and bigger lies. More and more people are catching on that this is all b.s and thats not good for the war machine.
…And I bet if the inaccuracies turn out to be the agency’s fault they will hold off distribution and ask to re-shoot the movie?
Thank you Senate Intelligence Committee for spread some justified fear among your own intelligence officials who advise filmmakers and protect your interests. You can now expect upcoming war-based films to be even more inaccurate and take greater liberties. Here’s the definition of intelligence.
Honestly, this movie was so terrible I don’t think it matters if it was “enhanced” or not. The torture was stuff we’ve all seen in war movies before and Congress has better things to do. What a waste!
Why don’t they investigate the war in Iraq and Afghanistan and the billions of cash dollars that literally vanished there instead of wasting everyone’s time?
Screw the Senators wasting taxpayer money on this they should be voted out of office for this don’t they have more important things to waste our money investigating?
Why not deal with some problems that we need to deal with Instead of this nonsense. Like dealing with our debt problems like dealing with the homeless like dealing with guns And all the other things that we have problems with. This is just a movie And a good one
Illegal dissemination of highly-classified material during a time of war is “nonsense”?
Let me guess: You live and work in Hollywood, prolly run a studio or sumthin’?
Guy…it’s a movie. Not even a documentary, ’tis only a film. And contrary to your diehard (probably uneducated and completely biased) beliefs, not every film made is based on truth or even comes close to being 100% factual. I’m going to go ahead and assume you were appalled at every minute of DJANGO and were in an uproar when RISE OF THE GUARDIANS revealed the startling truth behind our children’s holiday heroes? Outrageous.
So is it “not accurate” or completely accurate classified information? Which one?
Let the shit storm begin. It’s utter fiction.
Maybe not accurate but def not good.
Well, this film is a top contender for Best Picture, regardless.
Seeing that many here share the same sentiments, I suggest contacting the office of the members of the Senate Committee on Intelligence. They have a listing of each member on the committee’s website, although it’s not updated for the new year, so, I don’t know exactly who is on it, or how often it changes (maybe some of you do). Sure, contacting them might do nothing at all, but it least your voice is getting tossed out there and heard.
I agree that given the dire circumstances we have concerning other matters throughout our nation, this investigation is a waste of time, money, effort, and resources.
If it’s inaccurate, as the CIA contends, then what is Congress investigating? Someone in the Senate must believe that too much of the movie is accurate, thus the investigation of the CIA. In any event, the country has much bigger fish to fry. Try investigating why we’re $16 Trillion in debt. That should keep you busy for a few minutes.
If it’s grossly inaccurate why are they investigating?
Based on inaccurate classified intel.
I have buddies in the CIA that say, off the record, that Argo is about 95% accurate — really, really close. And that Zero Dark Thirty is about 85% IN accurate. way, way off.
I agree that the senate has about a billion bigger fish to fry than this. But the cia likes to control who talks to Hollywood and what they say, when they’re ‘advising’ for TV or movies, or something — as does every branch of the military. They like to control the truth that gets out about their Ops, and they like to control the bs versions that gets out, too. So that the official “truth” remains consistent. Even when it’s bs.
I have a buddy in the DIA which is more powerful than the CIA and BIA combined that will say on the record that your 100% full of sh_t and a avid fox news viewer who has never come within 1000 feet of a women other then your mother.
They’re never so concerned with the facts when it comes to obamacare, taxes, Afghanistan or Iraq. Money-grubbing lying corporatist thugs.
