In its first new show in more than a month, NBC’s Saturday Night Live, with host Jennifer Lawrence and musical guest The Lumineers, last night drew 4.9/12 in the metered-market households and a 2.8/12 among adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with Local People Meters. That was roughly on par with SNL‘s last original before the break, the holiday edition with host Martin Short and musical guest Paul McCartney (+Nirvana), which posted a 5.1/12 in households and a 2.8/12 in 18-49 on December 15.

You see? No one cares about Lawrence, except for Harvey.
I’m so sick of Hollywood’s anointed one. She is overrated. I cannot believe she is getting nominated for Oscars that she does not deserve.
Yeah, they’re shoving her our throats but yet there’s nothing outstanding about her. Yet another starlet that Hollywood wants to promote as next best thing. I’m not buying it.
Forget Harvey for a minute. This girl came out of nowhere and got nominated for Winter’s Bone, for heavens sake. And then she was the second best thing in XMEN: First Class. She might not be your cup of tea but she’s original, extremely likable, and doesn’t take herself very seriously. In a business where everyone is obsessed with their looks, their weight, and being something they’re not, Jennifer is a breath of fresh air.
1. She was not the second-best thing about X-Men. That was one of her worse movies. She was absolutely awful in the film. Dreadful. Amateur is the word.
2. Winter’s Bone, and her performance in it, were massively overrated. Any random girl off the street could have done what Lawrence did in that film. It was extremely ordinary. Cast a decent actress with stage presence and personality, someone like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and the film would have been 100x better. That’s one way of telling that an actress is terrible.
I fail to see how she’s a breath of fresh air. She is talentless. I tried to think hard about this. She needs to find a different occupation than acting.
She was great in WB but John Hawkes stole the show, as he so often and handily does
She is all of those things you mentioned, in addition to being very talented. However, it is a bit irritating that her being “extremely likeable” is being lobbied around as one of the reasons she deserves to be nominated and one of the reasons she’s being deemed one of the best young actresses out there. What ever happened to just being talented? It seems like how the public perceives an actor or actress is almost as important as the acting nowadays, with the exception of more established actors like Tommy Lee Jones. I’ve seen several people write that Jennifer’s charming Golden Globes speech may help her out against Chastain. Chastain’s already proven that has incredible range in the array of roles she’s played. Carey Mulligan, Jessica Chastain, Saorise Ronan, Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, etc. are all arguably just as talented or more talented than Lawrence, and it’s irritating that her “likeability” may give her the edge in grabbing a role or winning an award.
Well I guess you didn’t saw any of her movies.
Get a grip. It’s just an actor. For fuck’s sake.
I don’t see why people are so angry with her.
This girl is refreshing, extremely bright, fearless in her acting, and the camera really loves her. She’ll deserve any and all awards coming her way.
Her opening comments were at odds with her character and personality as shown in both performances and interviews.
IMHO, just plain poor writing from the SNL staff, who clearly have more hidden issues than a 12 year old w/a Playboy collection in his room.
I don’t think the hate for her is necessarily warranted, she’s good at certain things including what she did in silver linings, and that small part in like crazy. but she’s not funny, and as a result this was a pretty bad SNL. you could tell nobody on the show knew how to write for her. that Starbucks thing was a riot though.
“I don’t see why people are so angry with her.”
Let’s see she is young, beautiful, talented, successful, critically acclaimed and has two Oscar nominations at age 22. In the Internet age that’s plenty of reasons for people to write anonymous hate posts about you.
She didn’t seem like she was having a lot of fun on SNL. But the writing was back-to-school rusty so she’s not entirely to blame. I think she is a fine actress and at 22 she is already an A-List, so one can’t expect her to also be amazing on a live TV comedy show… yet.
Watched the entire show on Hulu just now and laughed once. The writing is sub-par. It’s not the cast, as there are some talented cast members currently on the show. Lawrence seemed to act well in her scenes.
Eh, I have to agree that I think the talent is great and the writing is a bit lacking. It just feels like it’s trying really hard to find the next viral video, and in doing so is just really suffering. I’d love to see some really weird, sketch-driven stuff over grasping for characters and catch phrases. OH YEAH Jennifer Lawrence! She’s cool and self-assured. I think people resent that? But she also wasn’t that funny. :/
