Season 2 of Starz’ Magic City will expand the action to Havana, Cuba and Chicago, and adds to the cast Godfather veteran James Caan as the mob boss overseeing Ben “The Butcher” Diamond. Show
creator/writer/director Mitch Glazer calls the canvas “bigger and yet more intimate than last season.”

And at today’s TCA panel on Starz, Caan talked about why he took the role, at first joking that he was in line to take over a square on Hollywood Squares when Glazer called. More seriously, he said it was the quality of the material. But when asked whether doing another mob role after Godfather represented coming full circle in his career, Caan said: “I’m not Anthony Quinn just yet. The truth is that I care very much about what I do, I try to maintain a little bit of integrity. I had the pleasure of watching [the show] beforehand,
it was just well-written, beautifully shot, and I thought it would be fun in a creative way and it was. I really didn’t have any specific reason other than that it was good.” Watch a trailer for the new season below.
Cast member Danny Huston commented on his Golden Globe nomination for supporting actor for portraying mobster Ben Diamond, saying: “I hope it will bring more attention to the show.”

The show is a bore, a fucking sleeping pill. Poorly cast, flatly written. I don’t where to start. How could you take this exciting period and turn it into wonder bread? They found a way.
And btw, I didn’t know that girls had implants in the sixties. What’s up with that?
Honest Abe, your name gives you away. You are the same person who obsessively posts on Facebook and imdb under false alias names. Give it up. These boards are meant for real fans/critics/ audience members to post on.
Actually, this used to be a forum for industry insiders and those who wanted to be — not a fan site.
The show is certainly not poorly cast, for the most part the acting on the show is superb. The writing is atrocious but several actors still manage to give excellent performances considering the crap material they are having to work with.
I found the first season to be predictable and not compelling whatsoever. The acting was fine, but it’s tough to turn fertilizer into gold. Perhaps with improved writing and faster pacing, it might turn out to be an enjoyable Friday night viewing habit. I think BOSS was the best show on STARZ, but the idiots cancelled it. What the hell do I know?
I love the show and think the writing AND acting are spot on. Especially Danny Huston who is quite frankly, brilliant in this role. I am really looking forward to season 2 and think Caan will bring a lot to the “table” on this. So, Honest Abe, don’t watch, we won’t miss you, best look at old Playboys from the sixites to see what real tits were like back then. Apparently, that is your big concern.
Can Jimmy behave an entire season?
umm perhaps YES as he needs the cash
The first season looked stunning, I have seen Beristain’s work
before it never looked this good, Writing OK, acting great,
Production design wonderful.
i would prefer the show not have so much nudity and animal cruelty .i wish it had more class as the introduction music suggests because i love the plots and the actors are all very talented !Especially Richard Dean Morgan
Too much nudity? Theres no such thing! Now I GOTS to watch this show!
This show is right on the money! I grew up in Miami in the 50s and 60s and my mother worked on Miami Beach at the Eden Roc so I know . When watching the show its like being tranported back to the era. You have done an excellent job! cant wait for the show to start!
Danny Huston is off the charts amazing on the show and the relationship between the butcher and his smokin’ hot wife makes the show worht watching
I find Danny Huston to be hilariously over the top on this show. Matt Ross on the other hand is a fantastic subtle actor who deserves more screen time. The young lady that plays the prostitute is also exceptional. I look forward to season 2 with Caan, and hopefully some over-all improvement in the pacing and depth.
I think Magic City is awesome! I think the writing, acting, and settings are right on for that era. Danny Huston is such a guy that I love to hate! He is tough, handsome, ruthless, and exciting to watch! The women are gorgeous and the men to die for! Can hardly wait for the new season to begin! Yay!!
I love Magic City and can’t wait for season 2 to start. I think James Caan will be great as he is in everything he does. Counting down the days…
Good show, actors great. I was a private detective in Miami in the late sixties, show has the feel of the times I remember.

The acting is good but the pace so slow. Houston is an interesting character and twisted in the show!
I Love this shows ?the guys are so hot!! Just the right amount of bare skin. This show has it all.
Best show on TV. Love it
Hahaha.. It’s Jeffrey Dean Morgan!!
It’s Jeffery dean Morgan. Richard was his dad..
