EXCLUSIVE: American Horror Story‘s Evan Peters and Not Fade Away‘s Bella Heathcote are set to star in The Preppie Connection, the next film by The War Within helmer Joe Castelo. Based on a true story, The Preppie Connection chronicles the exploits of a group of Choate private school students who ran a drug distribution operation in the early 1980s. The story centers on Toby, the lower-class scholarship student, who uses his street cred and access to drugs to make friends with the popular kids, eventually allowing him to cultivate a drug trafficking network. Toby gets in far over his head as he leads his friends into the dangerous world of Colombian drug cartels.
Castelo’s first feature, The War Within, was nominated for screenplay by the Independent Spirit Awards. Electric City Entertainment partners and Sundance fixtures Jamie Patricof and Lynette Howell are producing, with shooting to begin this summer in New York City.
Heathcote is repped at WME and Medavoy Management while Peters is repped at CAA and Luber Roklin. ICM Partners reps the director and is packaging the picture.

Awesome news for Joe. Can’t say enough good things about him and this project. Hope it doesn’t fall apart.
i hope it does
very dissapointing selection
Agreed. Peters is great, but Heathcote plays so flat!
The War Within is a devastating tale of the ripple effects of the war on terrorism. Things spiraling out of control. It will be interesting to see how this mew movie deals with one of the more interesting dichotomies in the war on drugs. Why is it that the judicial system has basically ignored the rampant drug distribution and use on college campuses while at the same creating a multi billion dollar prison network based on the distribution and use of the same drugs for people not in college. Racism is not about the use of the N word in a Tarantino movie, its about how America is blind to the disparities in the way it allows so many minorities to spend lifetimes in jail for what the white kids in college get away with without any legal consequence. Should be a great movie !!!!
great selection, saw original story on 60minutes Fascinating and timely
The war within was a brilliant film I am excited to see joe’s work in this type of genre. Good luck joe! Can’t wait!
“The original” on 60 minutes was a huge fabrication of the truth. What a horrible unhappy series of events to dig up. I am sure this will just be another series of lies and fabrications. Find something worth while to make a film about.
That event cast a long, dark shadow over the reputation of Choate Rosemary Hall, a beautiful school which was built by and has since produced many earnest scholars such as myself. I fervently hope the film explores that story – whose bottom line, p.s., is “what happens when a bunch of naive teenagers have access to a plane” – without resorting to the sort of lazy stereotypes that we had to tolerate on every sports field and social gathering through our youth. But I doubt it.
It is frankly a shame that movie producers have to ruin the good name of an institution like Choate to satisfy the maquiavellic minds of its consumers who are bloodthirsty for criminal strories. It is movies like this that incite inacurrate stereotypes in popular culture. Who is licentious Hollywood to criticize an exceptional incident in the history of one the leading high school institutions in the world?
I am saddened that this tragic event again is fodder for Hollywood. That being said, I hope the production is accurate and honest and does not cast aspersions too widely.
