Ketchup Entertainment has acquired the action thriller Vehicle 19, which stars The Fast And The Furious topliner Paul Walker, Naima McLean, Gys de Villiers, Leyla Haidarian, and Tshepo Maseko. It was directed by Retribution‘s Mukunda Michael Dewil.
Ryan Haidarian and Peter Safran produced and Walker and Eddie Mbalo are exec producers. Walker plays a recent parolee who unwittingly picks up the wrong rental vehicle after a long flight. He soon realizes that he is the target of an entire police force after discovering the tied-up female “passenger” in the trunk. Pic will be released in June.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Mukunda and Paul. We are looking forward to launching this movie across multiple platforms, and believe this high-adrenaline thriller will be embraced by audiences everywhere,” says Gareth West, Ketchup Entertainment’s CEO. UTA’s Rena Ronson made the deal with West and Ketchup’s Head of Acquisitions Stephen Stanley at Sundance. Ketchup has funded several films including the BBC pic Lost Christmas. It established a domestic distribution division last May with ARC Entertainment.

Saw this. Who would have thunk it but Paul Walker can actually act.
If that’s the case that the director managed to get a performance out of him, no small task in itself, then I expect good things here because this was a solid script.
Walker reminds me of Harrison Ford, he’s the right age to get some great action roles.
the writer/director Mukunda Michael Dewil got an $80m sci-fi movie after this, now why can’t my career arc look like that?
No one would have thought that because he can’t.
What does this have to do with Sundance? Did the movie screen there?
It didn’t play at Sundance I think there was a WME screening some time ago, several offers came in and Ketchup beat them out, i think.
Sick to death of Sundance news plastering the web; the outlets send thousands of staffers to party, collect swag and talk up seroiusly bad flicks that will go straight to video.
This has a decent theatrical release coming and is a pretty tight film so take it down a notch there
Paul Walker is a talented and very capable actor. There will always be people who bad mouth others for whatever reasons and come off as trolls spewing nothing but negativity. Stephen Stanley has great taste in films, so I’m definitely looking forward to this one.
Vehicle 19 is the DVD truck headed to Netflix.
FYI Ketchup was the only offer for this movie pending a re-edit.
Paul Walker should do a car movie.
I honestly believe Paul Walker is about to have a moment and all those suckers that passed him up in thinking he’s a “B” movie actor will be kicking themselves. Wait and see.
“Thinking” Paul is a b movie actor… come on now. We have been ‘waiting’ since MEET THE DEEDLES. B movie actor extrodinaire. What are you kidding me? Wait and see… yeah we waiting.. we just aint’ seeing…
I know another F&F movie!
Why the hate on Paul Walker? He may not be Olivier, but he’s charismatic and fun to watch. I saw the commercial for this and the only reason I thought it might be fun was that Walker was in it. Let’s face it, he’s not trying to do Downton Abbey here, he’s just trying to give audiences a good popcorn pic. I hope it works for him.
Having read the script,,,I liked it better the 1st time in 78,,, when it was called “The Gauntlet”
There is a lot of underrated talent out there which awaits a good script. People should keep an open mind. Actors also seek to improve their crafts by growing from one movie to another. It only helps commenting once you have seen the movie.
Finally a comment that makes sense. What is the point of slagging actors on the internet for a film that hasn’t even been released like some of the above commenters? I’m sure Paul is doing his best with his career just like everyone else.
Sounds like a decent movie – the concept is good and Paul Walker is OK. However it looks like it will end up driving straight to DVD…
