EXCLUSIVE: Only days after TNT opted to end his drama series Leverage after five seasons, Dean Devlin is back at the cable network with a high-profile new hourlong project. TNT has greenlighted a pilot for an untitled quirky bounty hunter drama starring Geena Davis. The show is inspired by the real-life story of bounty hunter Mackenzie Green (watch a short film about her below). It will star the Oscar winner as an unconventional bail bondswoman and bounty hunter whose eccentric personality and unusual tactics give her an advantage in a tough and unpredictable business. Devlin is set to direct the pilot, produced by his independent company Electric Entertainment, Ternion Productions and 3 Arts. Scott Prendergast and Leverage writer-producer Amy Berg wrote the script; Berg and Devlin and will serve as showrunners. The trio will executive produce with Ternion’s John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky and 3 Arts’ Tom Lassally and Michael Rotenberg. Davis serves as co-executive producer. In addition to Leverage, Devlin also executive produced TNT’s successful Librarian original movie trilogy. This marks TNT’s second drama pilot order in as many days, following the pickup of Steven Bochco’s Murder In The First yesterday. Berg and Prendergast are with UTA.

Been there, seen that, both as reality and fictional TV. Nice work UTA.
Is this going to turn into anti-hero drama. Then I’ll tune in. If its a light character procedural like Rizzoli and Ilses than I won’t even bother. Geena Davis could be just be testing the waters for all we know.
I actually feel kind of the opposite. I like the character based dramedies. It makes a show flow easier. Granted, if the main character is an anti-hero, all the better. But I like to think that a likable cast (Geena Davis is always fun) and an interesting premise, this could be a show I would check out.
I know this may be hard for some fans since the wounds of Leverage cancellation are still new, but a show like this can be fresh and interesting. Geena Davis has a great combination of wit and charm. I think she’ll do well in this role. Good strong female leading role, as long as it doesn’t become too cop drama-ish (I know that’s not a word, but we’ve been overloaded with cop dramas) Hope to see some guest appearances of some of our favs from Leverage
Yeah, great. It was called The Huntress when it was a series on USA years ago.
What? Ms. Davis is finished “seeing jane?” Lord knows the WORLD is.
It’s a good story line for actress Geena Davis after seeing her in so many films in the 1990′s. Even though this shouldn’t be unfamiliar to her background. Specially in television many many years ago she appeared on Family Ties for NBC network. And other projects after that it was only films. Then back to television in the late 1990′s. But after that she hasn’t really appeared in anything of late until now.
With TNT network making this show about a Bounty Hunter does bring back those days for actress Geena Davis. Many times ago back in the 1990′s there was a movie called “Long Kiss Goodnight” which she starred with actor Samuel L. Jackson. That was a totally different plot of the story but it showed a very strong character had skills. The action scenes in “The Long Kiss Goodnight” were interesting. Interesting because actress Geena Davis could portray a character in a action movie. And she did a great job besides that it was funny too. It just had about everything you could want in a not so norm of an action flick that starred an female character. This recent development of an show for TNT does remind me of those few films that actress Geena Davis starred in the 1990′s.
Are you kidding me…Geena Davis as Bounty Hunter-perfect prep for Davis if Hillary isn’t in in 2016! Cannot wait to see it!!!!
Go Dean Devlin!!!!!!
Oh, I get it. The Stephanie Plum books went the (failed) feature film route so scout around for a similar concept to launch another female bounty hunter/US marshall/prime suspect like series?
Personally I think Janet Evanovich should have sold her series to television when the offers were out there. She missed the boat on that one. Too bad.
Evanovich did sell her project as a pilot to Sony in 2000/2001 and they made a really good pilot of it with Lynn Collins as Steph Plum. CBS/UPN didnt pick it up. Stupid decision.
Oh great, it’s !Quirky!, !Unconventional! and !Eccentric!!
Nice. More power to women over forty and fifty in grabbing leading roles.
Coincidentally enough, the last time Geena Davis starred on a TV show, she was as another Mackenzie, President MacKenzie Allen on Commander-In-Chief. I’ll give the new show a try, sure.
Looks like becoming close buddies with Michael Wright has paid off for Dean Devlin
That being said this one sounds like a snooze fest
Amy Berg is an excellent writer. Trust me. I know.
This has a lot of potential given that it all falls around the writing being top notch.
Wait and see.
