EXCLUSIVE: As it picked up pilot King & Maxwell to series today, TNT has passed on another drama pilot, Trooper. The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Trooper starred Mira Sorvino as a recently divorced female state trooper who is as unconventional at work as she is at home raising her three kids. The project was originally developed at CBS last season where it also went to pilot starring Sorvino. The TNT pilot, which co-starred Eion Bailey, was written by Aron Eli Coleite (Heroes) who executive produced with Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman and Ensler for Warner Horizon. TNT today rendered a decision on its two procedural pilots. The network is yet to weigh in on its two action-adventure pilots, the Michael Bay-produced The Last Ship and the Howard Gordon-produced Legends.

Why are Medical Shows and Cop shows so popular Network wise?
It’s been going on for 50 years now.
We get it…Cops are romantic and everyone’s had a medical crisis of some sort.
But how about some originality?
Let’s put a moratorium on Cop/Hospital/Lawyer dramas for a couple years and see what happens.
I’d bet something interesting might come through.
We read an awful lot about audiences fleeing Broadcast Nets and heading to cable.
Cable nets seem to think outside the box instead of offering the same ‘ol same ‘ol.
And, sure, Broadcast numbers still dwarf cable, but those numbers are getting smaller and smaller. The Nets need to redefine themselves and stop offering so much reality crap and give people shows worth watching again.
Lost wasn’t THAT long again and drew people in.
Cause nerds don’t watch enough TV, bro.
Bitch and moan all you want — every year a dozen or so supernatural series bite the bullet cause eggheads like you don’t tune in.
So rally your nerd friends, stay off e-harmony, and tune in buck-o.
@Another Cop Show, I most definitely agree with you. While there are a few good network shows-the majority are same old, same old. I mean how many cop shows/procedurals does anyone really need? More people are heading towards cable because of the better programming which tends to take more risks.Broadcast tv just seems too limited/restricted in so many ways. I also have been waiting for the next LOST on tv-where is it? Wasn’t The River supposed to be the next LOST? We all know what a mess The River turned out to be. These networks need to take a chance on something new/different/innovative/awe-inspiring/something that makes us stop and say “Oh Shit,I gotta watch that!!” If you really think about it ABSOLUTELY NO BROADCAST NETWORK HAS ANYTHING EVEN CLOSE TO THAT! THE CABLE NETWORKS HAVE SHOWS YOU GOTTA WATCH(WALKING DEAD ETC.,ETC.,)BUT BROADCAST DOESN’T…
Um, you do realize that LOST was on a broadcast network, don’t you? I mean, I’m pretty sure your commentary was pure Swiftian, but just wanted to check.
Hopefully TNT picks up the Legends pilot. Howard’s Gordon’s has really gained a reputation for quality since the sucess of Homeland. Seeing how miachel bay has been lackluster director for the last 15 years.
@anonymouse-Don’t know if your comment was directed at Another Cop Show or myself? I know LOST was on a broadcast network, but, what I meant was networks don’t have anything akin to LOST on the air now.
Michael Bay is not going to be involved with The Last Ship that much.
He is just one of the producers.
The showrunner is Without A Trace creator Hank Steinberg.
The writing on many so-called new/different/innovative/awe-inspiring/something that makes us stop and say “Oh Shit,I gotta watch that!!” shows are totally overrated, many of them bordering on the ridiculous and all their ideas are used up by season 3.
That’s why we keep going back to procedurals. We don’t want writers fracking with us.
But arguably more importantly – How many failed pilots have Mira Sorvino been attached to by now?
