The second show of the second week of American Idol (5.1/4) found the judges taking in auditions in Randy Jackson’s hometown of Baton Rogue, LA. The first one-hour episode of Season 12 dominated the demos and was seen by 15.53 million but dipped 6% from the January 17 show’s 8-9 PM slot – the same drop compared with fast nationals from the January 26, 2012 show. So far, Idol’s season-to-date four-day average is down 12% year-over-year. Over the same period, Season 11 was down 27% compared with Season 10. With a solid Idol as a lead-in, Glee (2.7/7) came raging back from its winter break, up 35% from its last original December 13. With 11.214 million watching, Fox won the night in overall viewers (11.214 million) and the adults 18-49 demo.
ABC’s freshman series Last Resort (1.2/3) wrapped its abbreviated season and run last night. Cancelled in November, the military drama went out strong, up 20% from last week’s series low. Grey’s Anatomy (3.08) was flat with its January 17 show, and political drama Scandal (1.8/5) was a repeat. However, in the encore universe, it was the show’s best repeat, beating out the January 3 show’s 0.9 rating.
On the second-to-last show of its seven-season run, 30 Rock (1.4/4) rose 8% from last week on NBC. That matches the show’s second-highest rating of the season. With 3.838 million watching, 30 Rock also scored its highest total viewership of the season. In its second week in the 8:30 PM slot, Parks And Recreation (1.7/5) fell 11%. The Office (2.0/5) was also down, with a slip of 5% from its January 17 show. After cratering 25% last week, NBC’s new White House comedy 1600 Penn (1.3/3) saw a slight 8% rise last night. The same could not be said Rock Center With Brian Williams (0.8/2), which fell 27% from last week, tying a season low.
CBS was all encores last night with The Big Bang Theory (3.1/9), Two And A Half Men (2.3/6), Person Of Interest (1.9/5) and Elementary (1.5/4). The Big Bang repeat was the second-most-watched show of the night, pulling in 11.5 million viewers. The CW had The Vampire Diaries (1.3/4) and Beauty And The Beast (0.7/2) last night. Diaries was down 7% form last week, and Beast was up 17% from its last original December 13.

W O W! What a fantastic repeat number for Scandal( 1.8- beats or is as good as a Modern Family repeat), and BBT, and 2.5 Men. Scandal has become the ABC monster nit of the year unless that was inflated by some sporting event??? Meanwhile Grey’s Anatomy is just consistent as Hellfire. Nothing bothers that dedicated fanbase 3.0 demo/9million viewers. They never leave that show for any reason- LOL.
The 1600 Penn guy who used to work in the White House, Lovett, tweeted last night that online reaction to the show was bananas and there was 50 positive comments to every “troll.” So everyone who doesn’t think his show is funny is a troll. Based on the ratings, there are a lot of trolls out there because no one is watching it.
Guess I must be a troll because I didn’t watch. It’s one of the worst shows in recent memory. And since when do people judge a show based off of tweets?
and Jenna Elfman just tweeted that their ratings went up! Up from last week after dropping 25% from the week before. These people are delusional.
That’s the problem with that horrible 1600 Penn. They refuse to see anything beyond their own-generated hype. Even the actors keep talking about how it’s the new Modern Family. Um, at those kind of ratings, clearly it’s not.
I did watch the 1600 Penn show last night and for the first time thought it did live up to the hype. Very funny episode. And while I realize this is just my opinion, I’m only offering it because i did watch. To say something is stupid without out having watched it is in my opinion ludicrous. No wonder its so hard to keep a show on the air when people don’t even give them a chance and just follow the hype of “it got low ratings” “it can’t get better or it isn’t any good.” It took 4 episodes for this show to click with me, but now that it has I’m sticking to it for as long as NBC continues to air it. Is it delusional to be happy that your show went up among all the other NBC show declines while combating the return of the bigger rating shows like Glee? Yeah. I don’t think so. I say take the small victories where they come Ms. Jenna. It may turn around the other direction next week or it may just be that like me, the show is beginning to really click with some people.
Who said those knocking it didn’t watch it? I did. watched all four because I’d like to give it a shot. It just isn’t funny and can”t imagine anyone thinking the fourth episode was any better than the rest. The fact that a producer on the show would call people who don’t like it “trolls” is what’s stupid and extremely unprofessional even if it’s something as stupid as a tweet. maybe he was just trying to be funny, from his show we know he isn’t. In terms of taking victories, the show premiered with 7 million viewers thanks to the voice. went to 3.9 million to episode two and is still half a million off from that. wait until sweeps when it’s up against first run shows. Nothing wrong with producing a crappy show, just don’t have an attitude about it.
I loved Last Resort and I am sorry to see it go. It’s hard to attach to a show and I fight it tooth and nail sometimes because it seems like everything I like manages not to make it . Aloha Last Restort, you were a thrill ride while it lasted.
1600 Penn is just awful.Seriously, how fuckin’ desperate must you be if you say your show’s doing well based on tweets-I mean, come on! I suppose next they’ll say something equally ridiculous such as “yeah, but all of my neighbors watch it!” They need to face the facts-THE SHOW IS TERRIBLE! I actually thought it would get better, but,it’s actually gotten worse! Why Nbc hasn’t pulled it yet is a mystery to me. Then again,it probably means that whatever they’d replace it with would be even worse!
Gotta say I doubt you watched all four episodes. The show isn’t my favorite but the pilot was terrible and I thought the last two were a pretty big improvement. Still not Parks & Rec quality but not bad.
Don’t doubt it. I watched them and the show sucks. I’ll even follow your logic. The pilot was total crap and the last two were just crap.
Still crap. NBC has ordered 17 comedy pilots. Most anything should be better.
I’m really enjoying 1600 Penn, much more than I thought I would, and last night’s episode seemed to be the best so far. An all around strong cast but I’m especially loving Josh Gad.
