Fox’s Bones returned from its winter break with back-to-back episodes last night. In both its 8 PM (2.1/6) and 9 PM (2.1/5) airings, the forensically inclined drama, which was recently renewed for a ninth season, was up 11% from its last original December 3. With 8.1 million watching its 8 PM broadcast, Bones also pulled in its biggest audience of the season so far for Fox.
On CBS, a slew of comedies returned from their winter breaks to give the network its best Monday of the season. How I Met Your Mother (3.8/10) started the night up 12% from its last original December 17, hitting season highs in viewership (10.42 million) and in the adults 18-49 demo. A repeat of The Big Bang Theory (3.6/9) followed. With 11.43 million viewers, the encore was the night’s most-watched sho. 2 Broke Girls (4.1/10) was up 17% from its last original last month, matching its season-to-date demo high and also hitting a viewership season high (12.20 million., With 11.52 million viewers, Mike & Molly (3.5/9) hit a season viewership high as well, rising 6% from its last original December 17. Closing out the night for CBS, Hawaii Five-0 (2.4/6) was even with its last original December 17. With 10.735 million watching, CBS won the night in viewers and the demo.

The CW’s Sex And The City prequel The Carrie Diaries (0.6/2) debuted soft last night. Still, with 1.6 million viewers, it was the best the network has done in the slot in more than a year.
ABC had a two-hour edition of The Bachelor (2.4/6) which was up a slight 4% from last week’s cycle debut. A new Castle (1.9/5) was flat with last week’s winter break return.
From 8 to 10 PM, NBC’s The Bigger Loser (2.4/6) didn’t put on or lose any audience weight this week, flat with January 7’s regular time-slot debut. However, freshman series Deception (1.6/4) took a hit, with the soap drama down 20% from last week’s series debut.

HIMYM was great last night.
We used to love Bones, and yes, we watched last night. However, the series is getting sillier and sillier. We switched to something else before it ended. A first time for us! Bring back the old Bones! It’s getting more stupid with each episode.
Yes, it needs to go back to its roots but that’s a bit hard to do now what with the relationship changes that have taken place. Showrunners constantly ruin the concepts that got them going to begin with for some reason. CASTLE is another show that is being messed up. The hits stick to the basics, like NCIS, the LAW and ORDERs, CSI and CRIMINAL MINDS, even The MENTALIST. When they deviate too far from the core, they lose their essence … and their audience.
As pleased as I am for a season 9 renewal, this season is so hit and miss, mainly miss, lack of David Boreanaz in the scenes doesn’t help either.
There goes Nielsen and CBS again sharing the same bed.
Amen to the comments regarding Bones. I have said it before & I’ll say it again THEY RUINED THIS SHOW!!! Pesonally,I stopped watching after the whole “baby” storyline. I’m glad to see that a few other fans (based on some of the commentary posted here) are noticing this isn’t the same show anymore. I also agree about Castle. While not yet as blatant as Bones-it does appear Castle is changing somewhat ever since Castle & Beckett got together. I’m hanging in there with Castle because it is not yet as silly as Bones has become-at least-not quite yet.On the other hand,Bones has completely jumped the shark & gone way over the top. Maybe Fox renewed Bones based on what it once was, because, trust me IT AIN’T THAT ANYMORE!!!!!
For a split second there was a glimmer of hope… I thought they’d finally realized that former artist and former bisexual character Angela now is nothing but another big bore in this sea of boring characters and shipped her off into oblivion. But no. Of course not. Yawn.
Can’t agree re: CASTLE. Castle is just the opposite. They do everything right with their leads. You can hear people complain if there is an episode *without* a major romantic moment between the leads. Love that they’re developing Esposito. As for Ryan, he got married way too soon and currently is very weak. Something needs to happen. I would kill the wife in a hit-and-run or something and have him and Esposito chase clues for a few episodes and let him go nuts. Also, Martha is missing. They used to come up with such fun storylines for her. I miss that a bit.
Shocked The Carrie Diaries opened soft. It’s all the chickies were tweeting about last night.
WOW for CBS! The nightly wins in demo and viewers are so large now that it really seems like an impossibility for the scrub networks, ABC, FOX, and NBC to even make any kind of impression in the audience game. Particularly in viewers, no way any other network gets close. The scrubs have been fighting a losing battle for decades against tv titan CBS and they clearly still don’t have a clue how to indent and attract a massive following. It seems the other networks attempts to satisfy female viewers has actually turned them away.
Great numbers for the CBS comedies, all of them are up, but a big drop with Hawaii Five-0 at 10 PM.
Next week The Following premieres, it looks great.
