The White House today surprised no one by saying it won’t be sending Piers Morgan back to the UK for his opinion on guns — despite a petition that has garnered more than 109,330 signatures.
“Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously, but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment — or any other matter of public concern,” wrote Press Secretary Jay Carney today on the White House blog. “President Obama has officially decided I am NOT being deported,” wrote Morgan Wednesday on Twitter after the White House posted its response. Late last year, the Piers Morgan Tonight host sparked the wrath of radio host Alex Jones and others with his response to the December 14 Sandy Hook shooting and call for stricter gun control in America. Seeking UK-born Morgan’s deportation in an online petition, gun rights supporters accused the CNN host of launching “a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment.”

The Executive Branch’s response today was nothing more than obligatory. When the We The People online petition page was created on the White House website last year, the administration promised it would respond to petitions that got at least 25,000 signatures. The White House has also responded to petitions on marijuana legalization and granting a pardon to Chris Williams, who faces 80 years in prison for growing medical marijuana in Montana, where it is legal.

109.330 signatures. I wonder what .330 of a signature looks like.
I doubt even the president has the Constitutional authority to deport without due process (And yes, I hear Michael Corleone’s saying “Who’s being naive now, Kay?” as I type the words). But in truth, Morgan the Fey is more of a problem for CNN than the White House.
Of course the White House would say something like this. Even though Morgan is a foreigner who is trying to tear part our constitution the President and those in the media ignore this.
Why are people who obviously feel like the country is falling apart and on the verge of a class-war apocalypse wasting time on a show business website? Don’t you have a bunker to stock?
I couldn’t have put it more eloquently myself, Jeffmc2000.

It’s always interesting to me how so many Americans who say they are patriots and support our freedoms so quickly try to silence someone just because they disagree with their opinion.
Just like all those great patriotic liberals that want to silence fox new or talk radio because they don’t like the point of view????
There is a difference between having a point of view and being consistently, factually incorrect.
You’re right; the former being Fox News, the latter being MSNBC. Thanks for pointing that out, G.
Oooo…a play on the old “I know you are but what am I?” gambit. Very clever.
so wait these idiots want someone deported because he expressed an opinion that may disagree with the second amendment when this opinion is protected by THE FIRST AMENDMENT????? Yeah, nice try.
I’m not a P. Morgan fan… not at all. Just saying.
All this attention and his ratings still suck.
I’m still trying to figure out how to measure how, and to what extent social media mitigates shitty ratings. I checked Piers Morgan’s Twitter yesterday to see his thoughts on this whole deportation foofaraw, and he’s at about 3.1 million Twitter followers. That’s pretty impressive, even by popular celebrity standards. Bill Maher and Jimmy Kimmel – both viewed as being far more successful – are both floating around 1.5 mil, if memory serves. And Maher is pretty much serving the same audience. So where are all those followers when Morgan’s show is on the air?
I’d love to hear any media types explain how much credence is given, at an executive level, to social media presence or lack thereof – if any.
Freedom of expression. Why would you revoke someone’s 1st Ammendment rights for speaking out against the 2nd Ammendment? Seems counter intuitive…
Because he’s not an American citizen, and therefor isn’t protected under the First Amendment?
Besides, you don’t get to pick and choose your Amendments. If you want the protection of one, you need to support ALL of them, just like you don’t get to pick and choose which Americans are protected by them and which aren’t. It’s an all or nothing deal, or it all falls apart.
>>>>>”Because he’s not an American citizen, and therefor isn’t protected under the First Amendment?”
Um….yes he is.
Read the 14th Amendment.
In its entirety.
And pay special attention to the part at the end that talks about “Nationality”.
Oh, and NOTHING in the Constitution says that it’s an all or nothing proposition and that you either need to support all of them or you’re against all of them.
That’s the biggest pile of nonsense and bull I’ve ever heard.
Unnless you’re trying to suggest that prior to the 14th Amendment being passed, that anyone who disagreed with the Constitution deeming black people to be 3/5th’s a human being were being treasonous and anti-constitution.
It’s how AMENDMENTS (including the 2nd one you seem to value so much) get made and ADDED into the Constitution.
Because as some point in time, someone disagreed with something that was in the Constitution enough to demand it be changes.
AMENDMENT means CHANGE.
GEEEEEZ,….why don’t you ignoramuses actually sit down and learn the Constitution before presuming you can lecture other people about what it states and how they should treat it or respect it.
What are you yammering about? Where is the word “nationality” even used in the 14th Amendment?
Are you, in your asshole, smarter-than-thou way, trying to refer to privileges and immunities clause of the 14th Amendment? Aliens – NOT citizens of the US – are not afforded the rights of P&I. Morgan is NOT afforded any rights under the 14th Amendment. Hell, even actual citizens are not afforded all rights under the Constitution, minors for instance.
Perhaps YOU should read the Amendment. In its entirety. While you are at it, you should read the entire Constitution. In its entirety. Particularly before spouting off to others about their lack of knowledge.
Best thing to do is stop watching his horrible show and let the ratings slide and then CNN can cancel him outright and then deport his sorry ass back to Britain! Jay Carney is such a tool as well.
So…..Jay Carney says something you don’t like (and more to the point, he reminds you of what’s ACTUALLY IN the constitution) and suddenly he’s a tool?
Good thing you’re likely too incompetent to ever be entrusted to run anything of import and significance.
I’m greatly enjoying seeing you Righties twist yourselves in convulsions of hysteria and drama every time someone in the Obama Administration does something you “don’t agree with”
It’s going to be a great 4 years.
you need to support ALL of them,
ah, that would explain why “the second amendment protects all the other amendments” folks want the federal government to violate the first amendment by deporting a politically incorrect pundit (Morgan).
Sorry, but some of you people need to go back to civics class. Foreigners who reside here enjoy the protection of the First Amendment Rights.
See SCOTUS Ruling
McConnell v. Federal Election Comm’n
Dave says: Even though Morgan is a foreigner who is trying to tear part our constitution the President and those in the media ignore this.
How can words tear apart our constitution? …and foreigners are also protected under the first amendment. Dissent is a privilege, not a threat.
Piers Morgan does not deserve to be in US. He should return to his crummy country of England.
Yes, piers morgan go back to england & take the first bus.
