More people watch “Spartacus,” and that’s saying something.
Hopefully, this will help end of era of propping up “low rated” shows just because liberal studio executives like them, and want to be invited to showbiz parties.
And hopefully Tina Fey will finally go away. Never seen anyone “over state” such a low career. According to her, she’s the “queen of comedy,” an insult to those who actually are successful female film comedians.
Come on Sarah Palin. You can let that grudge go.
Which is funny, considering Fey built her at that point unremarkable career on exploiting an uncanny resemblance to a politician the Left loved to hate. Right time, right place, right face. Kudos to her for taking advantage of the situation, but all this praise she’s received as some sort of comedic genius is ridiculous. Without Palin, Fey is a supporting character on Corky Romano 2, and then forgotten.
Hmm, maybe you never saw ‘Mean Girls’ ore realized that Tina was the Head Writer on SNL, but, ok…make it political and even then, superFAIL.
Fey has always left me cold. I don’t think she’s funny in the least. But it’s all a matter of personal taste. I don’t know why you people are fighting about something so inconsequential as Tina Fey. I mean, is this THAT important?!
Shelly Long, is that you?…
Boo hoo for you, who apparently missed out on just how hilarious and intelligent this show could be. Sometimes good low-rated shows don’t even get to stay on the air – see: ‘Freaks and Geeks’ ‘Andy Richter Controls the Universe,’ etc., etc.
When I read a post like this, I always think that it must be a joke. Like Jack talking to Liz about “Obama’s recession.” No one really thinks like this, right? And I wonder why Meh– great name btw– puts “low rated” in quotes. Perhaps because Meh is “ignorant”?
How superior you are for putting down 30 ROCK. Enjoy your BIG BANG THEORY and 2 BROKE GIRLS, hillbilly.
People that are right of center aren’t necessarily “hillbillies”. “30 Rock” is maybe slightly better than “Big Bang Theory” or other sitcoms that even a gorilla would find to be stupid and unfunny.
However, there are shows that are far funnier than “30 Rock”, for example “Portlandia”, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “South Park”, etc. Tina Fey is INSANELY overrated and overpraised, to consider her the same class as a true comedy genius like Larry David or someone like that is ridiculous. I think it’s mostly due to politics and the fact that she is a woman that she is so incredibly overrated by the media.
They still got paid, so joke’s on you
I happen to be a bit more conservative and I loved the hell out of “30 Rock”….just because its low rated, doesn’t mean it’s bad
When she made fun of Elizabeth Fritzl of Austria, victim of a harrowing crime, I was stunned at how far dear Tina would go to get a laugh. She’s a no talent, opportunistic scum bag and I’m sorry I ever watched the show which was schlock.
Meh, you’re comment was just meh… What ever you do, don’t become a writer, because you’ll never even be 1/10000000 of what Tina Fey is.
Not to knock 30 ROCK because I’ve never seen it but I think the long run was a combination of the network having NOTHING people watched so they clung to what little they had longer than they might have. Or it could be that it was liked in house. HOMICIDE was on for seven years and that show was never big.
Bingo. 30 Rock got acceptable ratings while the rest of the network was crashing and burning. No crackpot conspiracy theories needed. The fact it won awards didn’t hurt either.

Also…Tina Fey IS funny. Her years as head writer at SNL were some of the show’s best…and I’m speaking as someone whose seen every episode ever and is not blinded by nostalgia for the 70′s cast.
too bad the series finale was such a boring mess.
Yes, sort of like the rest of the show. I never saw the attraction many people seemed to have to it.
Tina’s a huge talent. But the show was never a must watch. I look forward to what comes next.
Finale was great. The show was genius. Tina Fey deserves all of the accolades she receives for 30 Rock. Fuck all of the people that just talk shit and spit bile at it. If you don’t like it or you don’t get it, that’s fine. I don’t watch basketball. Everyone else that thinks their project deserved more air time should watch any cop procedural. Anyone who thinks ratings equal quality should study Honey Boo Boo to learn how to produce true art. Anyone else that’s just pissed off or doesn’t like Tina Fey’s face, or whatever the hell you’re bitching about, can fuck right off.
30 Rock was the most schizophrenic show ever. Each episode would have some really smart and very funny scenes then some truly stupid and idiotic scenes. They were never able to do an episode that was smart and funny all the way through. So it was frustrating to watch it because you always had to suffer through stupid comedy. Alec Baldwin is the reason the show lasted so long. Without Alec it would have been cancelled very quickly.
Indeed! Jack was wicked fun and so UN-cardboard, whereas Liz parroted feminist shit nobody ever believed. I stopped watching when she made fun of the horror poor Elizabeth Fritzl endured at the hands of her father in the notorious case out of Austria. Such trashy people like Fey don’t deserve their success.
30 Rock was inconsistent, but when it was at its best, it delivered. The run-up to the 2012 election was a great story arc, but then failed to continue the tension post-election.
30 Rock sometimes was simply a vehicle for whatever star was in the building a the time (we get it Brian Williams, you want to be a funny guy too). But the most refreshing thing was how it consistently bite the hand that fed it. How many nets allow this on a regular basis? Not enough. (Sure Dave and Craig diss CBS every chance they get, but not in primetime.) Tina Fey never missed a chance to take down the suits at NBC and Comcast, aka Kabletown.
Was 30 Rock appointment TV? Not for me, but I did watch more frequently in the last few years (and earlier eps are available in syndication, so you can easily catch up). Lena is not one-tenth as talented as Tina, but if she is as smart as she thinks she is, she will learn from 30 Rock’s successes and missteps.
In talking about the girl’s lunch before the show first aired, Jane said Tina told her everything she wanted for the show and it all came true.
I can hear Tina now: “I really want very disappointing ratings, so bad that the network would cancel us except they want to keep a good relationship with me in case, next time, I come up with something that people want to watch.”
Let’s not forget the genesis of 30 Rock…It was put on the air to placate Lorne Michaels who was furious that the same network would put on Aaron Sorkin’s Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip.
Meanwhile they should be training Lorne’s replacement. Because everyone is replaceable…just ask Pete Best, David Lee Roth & Shelly Long.
Tina Fey is one of the most incredible human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. And that’s tough to say in this business because there aren’t many. She is humble, gracious, supportive and a freakin’ brilliant writer and she will take a note even though she is two steps ahead of everyone. You can’t take any of that away from her. Sarah Palin was well into her already successful career, it helped to revitalize SNL after she had already left. Tina Rocks!! Don’t hate people, it’s ugly.
Knowing someone personally is one thing, and liking or disliking them on screen or wherever, is another. You claim to know Fey and apparently like her personally. That’s great. But you need to remember that others here DON’T know her personally and while I agree that you shouldn’t hate someone you don’t even know, I think what many people are trying to convey is that they don’t like her comedy style. I fit into the latter group. I don’t think she’s funny in the least and don’t care for her at all. But I don’t know her personally, so I am basing my comments on personal taste. That’s why there’s chocolate and vanilla ice cream (and many other flavors). Not everyone likes the same things. I find Palin marginally talented, not particularly funny, and I thought her Sarah Palin impression was boring. It really doesn’t take a lot of talent to ape someone else, especially when you look like them (as does Fey/Palin). But again, this is just my opinion. We all have them and you know what they say about that.
I’m guessing that nobody in the “whole town” would ever say anything nice about you. You’re rude. We get it.
“30 Rock” was really uneven and the excessive promotion turned me off from it. There were some brilliant moments but overall it was just overly-silly and unwatchable. It will be forgotten in a few years.
